Boztepes prime coincided with the early UFC's but he didnt want to know. Fuck the UFC he could have gone and fought in some other organisation designed as a vehicle to showcase him like rickson did in WVT 94/95 but he didnt.Shame
I mean a guy like Ron Van Clief a true warrior was already 52 by the time of the first UFC's and had already won a world kumite held in Hong kong in 1982 which featured kung fu and karate fighters and grappling on the floor. But his fighting pride led him in to take on a Gracie half his age. He coulda had an easier draw but he wanted gracie. Le Bell was too cowardly, Urquidez was in his early 40s. Don Wilson had just retired and was 40. I excuse Don Wilson and Urquidez they were great fighters

LaBelle was 60 years old and i think the challenge to him was un-manly and ridiculous. At 60 you're an elder statesman of the arts, one no longer fights at such an age. Don "the Dragon" got back into the ring at 45 yrs old, a real true fighter. Boztepe is a 'street fighter' and dirty in his approach, not good for MMA. He fought skinheads in Germany streetside.

He did avoid the UFC and a few other venues, so he could be looked at ducking it. I for one do not think he would have done well in the UFC back then. I look at him more of a street fighter of punks who might challenge you because you're darker than them or something. Real trained fighters he would have had a problem with i think.
@nagone11 i mean as a teenager i regularly knocked out guys in the street, i beat 3 people at once in a fight. Bythe time i was 21 i was inside on a manslaughter charge which i beat. Yet i was nervous inside the scrubs at such a young age. I wasnt by any means the best fighter. In the boxing gyms and jujitsu dojos i was handled with ease by older men with mortgages. Now im the old man and i have lost some of my fighting passion but i dont live off my past like boztepe.

So if he gets his ass kicked in the ring by some wrestling guy, his fortunes go down the drain. SO i figure he stays out so nobody can prove him wrong. It's all marketing by the way i see it, he looks tough has nice moves, his chain punching and all are effective against an un-trained person so he rolls off of that.

Such was his arrogance he claimed Van Damme asked him to co star in AWOL in 1989 and he turned him down as he preffered Jim Jarmusch films!!
