  • Im kidding i liked this movie!!!

  • Krusty: What the hell was that!!!!?????

  • how did theese people back then make this shit Oo

  • that guy created the first fembot xD

  • ER... i thought i saw ladygaga>>>?

  • the restored footage really makes a difference in the story

  • I can't choose who I love more Saint Maria or Evil Maria?

  • this movie sucks balls man

  • @keykikoo So the film "sucks" because there's no CGI and no sound. Am I right?

  • I love movies. And for a while I never have a one favorite. When someone ask me what my favorite movie of all time is I wouldn't have a clear answer. Sometimes I will just name of 10 movie that I say are equally my favorite. But after seeing this masterpiece 5 days ago, my opinion has changed. I know know my favorite movie of all time is, and it's not Metropolis, but THE COMPLETE METROPOLIS!!!

  • Now I NEED to see this.

  • The blu-ray is nothing short of incredible. However, there are no words I can use to describe how great this film is.

  • For such an old film: Very epic!

  • The only problem is the fembot acts totally without social of sexual moral which leaves the son very confused and very perturbed at seeing her indulging with many men in full site, a prime example of the a man’s attempt to keep the social classes separate

  • So before that plagiarising hide behind palm trees bitc@ stole my words I was saying why I like Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. The whole story of a powerful and wealthy factory owner father’s son falls in love with a young girl from the lower class working masses, the father is so perplexed by this that he consults with his scientist staff who create a fembot who look identical to the young girl whom his son falls in love with

    CAF Leeds

  • I do not mean to be insulting but in no way do I associate this film with the late Freddy Mercury who uses one of Metropolis’s scene in one of his music videos, also this show the theory of man’s attempt to create life over god, so that is why I own a copy of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, you would but have to think the level a man would go through to keep his son from a lower working class girl

  • this movie was fucking amazing!!!! WOW!!!

  • Babylon...

  • To honor history, those who watch it for the first time should start watching the version that mankind had to settle with for 80 years and then the newfound one..

  • When the person who found the film left the room shocked by the treasure that was holding in his hand, Hitler sighed relieved in a dark corner thinking "Uff.. that was close..".

  • oh how i love old films! I havent seen it but its meant to be really good - its from 1927 isnt it?

  • @MaisieIsAwesome yes its from 1927 and my advice is to get this movie as soon as possible i was hooked in a few seconds

  • @kallemick okay, thanks lol i love old movies!! :)

  • @MaisieIsAwesome your welcome :) and i understand theyre really great sometimes

  • amazing restoration, i must get it

  • wow very interesting movie. watched it at my university yesterday and i was really impressed. great atmosphere, it really moved me.

  • Io vado trovando il film completo, invece trovo solo queste schifezze.

  • Sad the way this masterpiece was treated. Years of untold labors to be only tossed aside and buried. This movie deserved a better fate - at least it still exists in some form. RIP Fritz. The world wasn't ready.

  • 15 Years left to reach the reality of this amazing movie. :P

  • @noodlescracher28 but seriously, its an amazing movie!

  • Madonna and Beyonce perform the Metropolis ritual live onstage. Many others use the reborn to the form of a robot.

  • Saw this last night on the big screen with the score performed by the NZSO. Fantastic! All movies should have a live score!!!

  • New scenes found (and restored) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.....I LIVE THERE!!

  • Why on Earth have I not seen this yet?

  • God, I love this movie. I saw it in cinema in 2010 and it is so wonderful unique. That was the time when we were still able to make good movies. :)

  • The movie's message about an oppressed and exploited working class dominated and enslaved by a selfish wealthy elite certainly resonates with the feelings of people nowadays...

  • @SemisapientGenius Rhetorical question: when things have not been like that?

  • i actually think Hollywood should remake this movie, but they should do it right. If they're just gonna throw some shit together & name it 'Metropolis' then nevermind...

  • @iNfAMOUs16210 I respectfully disagree, there are a handful of films that should never be remade and Metropolis is one of them. The expressionism would be lost in a modern film.

  • @cruekid2001 i partially agree what that, but on the other hand, what they can do visually with graphics and stuff like that today could be epic if done right. but i do kinda agree with the expressionism being lost, which is why i stress the fact that they need to do it RIGHT.

  • i saw this movie in a store and i had to choose between this one and terminator 3. i chose T3. now i regret

  • @ar2014 where u from? bcos i want to know where store you've seen it?thanks

  • @gboxletter im far away from the us, im from argentina.

i heard that the complete version of metropolis was found in argentina 2 years ago, but i dont know which version i've got

  • @ar2014 oh u so far.. but thanks anyway... Chao

  • Someone please tell me where I can find this movie in its full length I have been dying to watch the entire thing...

  • @ariel12955 From amazon.com. It cost about 30 bucks but it's worth every dollar.

  • @Battery206781 I was hoping to watch it online for free ya' know...but thanks anyways.

  • There should be a remake with Lady Gaga in it.

    Fact.

    (jk)

  • Part social commentary, part ballet, part typical overacted silent film. But the art direction is stunning, its vision of (our) future breathtaking yet depressing, and that robot -- well, that robot...

  • @50zcarsman i'd have to agree with you about the overacting, save alfred abel as joh fredersen. he's amazing in the role.

  • I may eventually see Avatar. But being an old film buff (geek), Metropolis is in a class by itself.

  • Metropolis makes movies like Avatar look like shit.

  • Best film ever! Aah I love it so much. I've never had my attention so captured by a film before, and after I was not the only person in the audience who gave it a standing ovation.

  • you would think they would have color in the future

  • @MrRaymundHensley

Wow! Unbelieveable how good the song matches! It's like the trailer was originally edited to Mind Heist.

In the normal trailer I didn't get goosebumps, but with Mind Heist, I got.

  • I loathe Remakes but I DO wish they remade this get Peter Jackson on that ISH! I want some BladeRunner/Avatar with the epicness of some StarWars/LotRs OMG when you WANT Hollywood to Remake something they instead remake spiderman after only what 3/4 years after Spidey3 but this came out in like 1900s with no Live Action Remake yet WTF Srsly Hollywood?

  • @MrRaymundHensley Holy shit! Perfect match! How did you find that out?

  • please god, don't let Hollywood remake Metropolis.

  • @misterE2012 should we germans make an metropolis 2.0? =D

  • @1812over2 no, and dont ever let hollywood get their hands on it

  • @misterE2012 WHY?

  • @misterE2012 why not???????

  • Comment removed

  • @misterE2012 Hollywood will most certainly remake it. According to the latest news the making of the film will take place sometime this year.

  • @misterE2012 They will remake it as a Vince Vaughn vehicle; now if that doesn't give you nightmares, nothing will.

  • finally... COMPLETE!!!

  • better than avatar

  • Just listening to the music, gives me chills....ohh what a masterpiece!

Watch it because you want too..it is a long movie, but if you have even an ounce of heart ...you will love this movie. Top 5 all time

  • Bioshock: 1927.

  • Impressive city design for the time!

  • Fantastic film, worth watching even if it is black and white or silent doesn't harm this film at all! Which I think shows how good it is really.

  • surely they could have digitally cleaned up that ropey footage at 0.40?

  • @ryanbrownnew that IS cleaned...they were working from an 11mm film reel that has been in storage in South America for at least 60 years...degradation is inevitable.

  • The 1920's and 1930's were SO COOL. I love the way everything looks. feels, and sounds.

  • This movie goes one place...down the ditch.

  • they need to remake this movie, and not with computer effects and shit. With old cameras.

  • Never in my life did I think I would sit thru and entire silent film.

DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE ON ACID. whew..

  • Best Sci-Fi movie ever.

  • @errolfan Even though most of the stuff in the film seems pretty normal by todays standards you have to admit sci fi movies would not exist if it wasn't for Metropolis.

  • @ariel12955 Metropolis was the first full length Sci-Fi movie epic made. It defined the genre. Sci-Fi would have existed without it, though. Someone would have come up with "Plan 9 from Outer Space" eventually.

  • 1:13 "Bitches love my robot hand."

  • Is this a movie about Lady Gaga?

  • @MinecraftplusTron

no this movie is about how you got to like gaga !!!

Hollywood trickery like mindcarft on the real scale .. now ponder that for a wile ;-)

  • @MinecraftplusTron this movie was used in the Queen Music Video, Radio Gaga, from where Lady Gaga got her name. that is the ONLY connection.

  • @Soundwave3591 Haha, well thank you for telling me that. Although, it was intended as a joke, but you knew that.

  • I just watched the newly restored version then and I have to say this has jumped to my top 5 films of all time.

The new version does it for me.

I've tried watching before but the new version had me glued to the screen.

  • if you can watch this with the alloy orchestra doing the score don't miss it. This movie is an amazing piece of cinema, and the alloy orchestra has added amazingly another dimension to it. And the movie as someone put is far from 'hokie'.

  • 1:32 babel tower

  • ya ya danke, das ist mier verst!!

  • This is one of those films you HAVE to watch. Even if you don't plan on working in the industry, it's such a classic.

  • yeah i looked this up cuz of RWJ

  • Question: Is this a satanic movie?

  • @ladydbitchez420 everything that is not on the bible is satanic by default, even toothpaste

  • @porkyminch01 Lmfao you win at life.

  • A COMPLETE MASTERPIECE!!! LOVE IT

  • This scares the shit out of me

  • @sweet0surprise me too, since i leaned it is related to all the illuminatti thing n all these female singers who use the robotic image as a symbol

  • i dig the futuristic city footage. basically thats all... the movie looks hokey otherwise but would be willing to give it a chance on some lonley winter nite.

  • why was there the upsidedown star there!?!

  • Fritz Lang was a GENIUS. I just dont understand why so many biblic references (like the Babel tower)...

  • everyone who played in this movie is dead :(

  • For Metropolis fans in Melbourne Australia, the spectacular Astor Theatre will be screening this in 2K Digital Format (not off a blu ray) as it was meant to be seen, on July 23rd 2011

  • LADY GAGA inspired! LOL

    PAWS UP! 1:31

  • @mackunmc thats obvious. You can see MANY things inspired by this movie on Lady Gaga (even on Beyonce. Theres a metal outfit that she wears on a show that is EXACTLY like the robot Maria...)

  • 0:44 Flavor Flav!!!!!

  • Has anyone uploaded the whol thing please? I saw this in NYC when the piano music was redone and restored.

  • Absolutly a classic, a work of art.

  • WTF??????

  • Holy shit what a beautiful movie!! The date scared me, but shit omg just beautiful shit

  • This was always too good a movie to remain silent ( thanks to the original Huppertz film score). Years ahead of its time, it continues to be the very first Sci-fi epic of the movie genre.

  • wooooooooooooooooooooOW

  • Pretty fucking epic.

  • Is this a silent movie ?

  • @shimidis yeah

  • 71 people are Machine-men.

  • christina aguilera at :31 haha

  • metropolis is modern and silent movies are modern, like this short movie made at a german film school. It's like the style of old silent movies but in color and with dialogues. If you like to watch, serach for: 'Die Vereinigung - Teil 1' at youtube.

  • 1:34 XD

  • Have you noticed the striking resemblance to the Fukashima nuclear power plant

disaster and tsunami flood to what happens to Metropolis?

  • So this is where Janelle Monae got her concept from? Awesome!!! She has such an old soul (like me) and I LOVE IT :)

  • It's incredible that this film was made in 1927. The vision in this film is spot on to what's going on in the world today

  • @sarevor I say the same thing about King Kong

  • @sarevor that's why it's called a classic ;)

  • @sarevor Still can't believe it was made in 1927. Centuries ahead of its time.

  • @sarevor I just watched it. Simply amazing. It was like watching Bioshock.

  • @sarevor except for the propeller planes flying amongst the mile high skyscrapers...

  • @97nachotv Well of course they'll look at way, jetliners weren't thought up yet. Either way, the idea of a bustling city with air machines in conjunction together with high rise buildings was incredibly insightful. :) For the most part I meant that the symbolism used to describe the current mental state and attitude of people and metropolis of today is spot on :D

  • @sarevor I would have liked those planes.

  • @97nachotv me too

  • @sarevor It's because history eternally repeats itself.

  • try watching this trailer with the 1911 button

  • Hey, wait a minute, do you think that Bill Gates could be the mediator? Hmmmm

  • probably my favourite film :)

  • Thumbs up for Radio ga ga

  • i tried to watch it but i dont think i was high enough. is this lengthy classic worth a viewing?

  • excellent!

  • even-though i am not a big fan of silent film, this is one of my favorite films of all time

  • @Sukdeb120 it's not supposed to be a comedy it's science fiction

  • Mittler zwischen Hirn und Haenden muss das Herz sein

  • this movie was awsome!!!

  • The scene at 0:15 is really beautiful, but also eerie. but, that's what attracted me to this film. the art design is so beautiful and picturesque.

  • this is incredible! I can't believe they achieved something like this back then!

  • chills!

  • I'll tell you why they found the copies in all places Argentina proablly by some runway Nazis . This film is amazing such great commentary on the world.

  • @cocodeflossy1 Nope. This is an official copy, like other copies were sent to other countries.

  • @cocodeflossy1 "Proablly"?"Runway Nazi"?You need to consult that dictionary,coco.

  • Coming to video spring of twenty eleven, "BIOSHOCK-THE MOTION PICTURE."

  • Awesome trailer, I have yet to see the full version of Metropolis yet. This movie was so far ahead of its time.

  • This is so unfair!!

~I'm from germany and i'm really proud that this is a german movie :D

but it's so unfair that they didn't release " The Complete Metropolis" in germany ...

i saw pictures of the UK - Blu ray and WOW xD ...

i hope this version will be released soon !!

p.s. this is a really great trailer

    pp.s. i am only 15 xDDD

  • @erdnuss2000 the entire movie is on youtube, in german. :)

  • I'd like to see the Incredible Hulk fight Whitney Houston.

  • Watch this. Cube Destination

  • i like this movie and the anime was freakin awesome

  • this is a subsitute to xanax

  • i got the bluray for xmas... never even seen it. just looked up this trailer... seems very... odd.. extremely interesting.. but odd. huh, should be a good watch none-the-less though

  • I love this movie, I really wish I could follow it.

  • I suppose Blade Runner is the closest to capturing the look though Star Wars II on Corcusant does seem to have a lot of the spirit of the city. Certainly Palpatine's grand office is lifted from Fredersen's...Though I think it's smaller.

  • Actually she wore the robot suit at least a few times in filming. She was photoed in it during the filming and stills of her in it can be seen. Though someone else may have done some of the scenes.

Amazing job by the whole cast in any case.

  • She wore the robot suit at least a few times in filming. She's been photoed in it.

  • Have you guys notice that Lady Gaga copied the whole idea of this movie, starting from her name that later on Queen wrote the soundtrack called radio Gaga, she uses all this symbols and she loves to call herself the monster just like the devil Maria that was created to rule the worker city. GAGA is LAME and illuminati poppet

  • @tubeytubiste

Also, "Babylon" is the Greek name for the City that was known in Hebrew as "Babel", which the Jews associated with their word "Bilbel", which means "confusion". There's a story in the Bible about Babel, where everyone suddenly starts speaking different languages and can't understand each other. To "Babble" means to speak nonsense. There's no concise etymological evidence that "babble" is derived from "Babel", but "Gaga" and "Babble" both refer to nonsense language.

    Intentional?

  • @MrTater83

In Assyrian and Babylonian 'BAB-ILU' means 'GATE of GOD'. This makes sense when you remember that the builders wanted to build "A city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven." [Gen 11:4]. Hebrew renders that name as BABEL. It still means 'GATE of GOD'. Its only connection to 'CONFUSION' is through a pun on the Hebrew word 'BALAL' [which is translated as CONFOUND in verse 9]. The English word 'BABBLE' can ultimately be traced to the Sanscrit 'BALBUTHAH' [a stammerer].
