I sharrpen for a living aswell with that same setup. I do not shapen my own knife with that setup and i'll tell you why. When making the bur you remove to much steal and cut a brand new edge. There is only so many times you can shapen a knife with that setup. If you want your knife to last forever I recomend using a stone or hand sharpner of some sort. If you get a good bur yes cut a new edge on a grindiing wheel. but just to touch it up you dont need to remove that much steel.

@nateL1914 I understand what you're sayin Nate, but I am very careful not to remove to much metal. ANY sharpening system you use CAN remove too much metal. It is more about the sharpener than the system. While yes, I don't recommend using a typical grinder, these wheels work great. I have different grits depending on how much/fast I want to remove metal, so I use the lighter grit on most knives. I commonly need to grind a brand new edge... that's why my customers use me.
Using my iPhone. Can't find this person anymore. It is nice to know we can ship our knives there to be sharpen. I plan to look into this. Thanks for the video and information. God Bless America and long live the republic. Take care Sootch
This was awesome. I had a gentleman older do a knife that I was carrying at a gun show sharpen it. He had the equipment that the person in the video used. I was more than pleases with the edge he put on my knife
Thanks for sharing. Josh seems like a great guy offering a great server. Those seem like very good prices too. I only have a couple knives now so to save on shipping I'll wait till I get a few more. I assume he can sharpen blades on like a Leatherman right?
Dude I know what you mean, I can't sharpen a knife worth a darn either. I even have a lansky too, and still doesn't seem like I can ever get them where I want them. But I got friends that could sharpen a friggin hammer and shave with it.
Thanks for showing this, good to see somebody who really knows their stuff.
In major cities (NYC most famously) there are guys who drive by every few days or weeks with a truck. They'll sharpen your kitchen knives, lawnmower, hedge trimmer, whatever. Usually similar price, $5/edge or sometimes less if you're a long time customer. The thing to watch out for is that some guys are hacks and take off tons of metal; after a few sharpening sessions you'll have no blade left!
@silvermediastudio thanks silver for the compliment! yeah, looking to eventually get into that... but got a full time job as a deputy right now, so dont' have time. am getting into sharpening lawn mower blades tho for the upcoming summer!
i know what you mean about removing too much metal...that's why i just get the edge to where it has a burr on both sides, and then polish it. there is no need to keep grinding away metal at that point... you are just destorying the blade! thanks for the tip!
@glockfan86 I have the Edge Pro Apex....... It works like a champ. And "$5 per straight edge" is a very good deal. Most pro's charge $1 to $2 per inch for sharpening. Sootch00 and all others....... LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC AND GOD BLESS!!!!!
@stnls1911 yeah bro... its the wife's =D. sootch is holding the saiga 12 and i'm holding my 6.5 grendel w/ bushnell elite 4200 scope. we're hoping to do a review on them in the near future together.
Nice one. I have a sammi knife that was razor sharp. It aint so anymore and i cant seem to get it sharp again. This vid makes me reconsider how i must sharp it.
Great vid and advice. I do not sharpen my better knives myself. For utility cutting, I use cheaper knives and sharpen them myself. My good knives, I let the pros sharpen. Excellent job. KEEP ON PREPPING
I too have a ZT0350 and it was razor sharp out of the box but b/c of the steel type, it was hard to resharpen. I could resharpen it to cut paper but not hair like it could when it was new. Maybe I need a professional to do mine too
I have already had Josh sharpen quite a few of my knives. I will vouch for him 100%. His integrity and pride in his work are unbelievable. He sharpened and honed my knives to a point where the edges actually give a mirror-like reflection. Check out w w w(dot)razor-edge-knives(dot)com
@fadetoblack73 Thanks for the business scott! Happy to do them for ya anytime... and their not just decorative edges on your collector knives, they will work well for a long time. You had some nice knives! talk to ya soon...
I understand well, Sootch; I also have several sharpening tools and kits, but I still take my knives to a pro, especially when I buy a new knife. Yeah, most knives come out of the box sharp, but the factory angle that come with all blades no longer satisfies me. I guess I'm too damn spoiled now. Once you have a well sharpened knife, anything factory made just ain't gonna do it!
Chef's Choice station 130. I bought one after a couple guys at work told me about it. Works great, and no I do not work in association with them at all. Just trying to be helpful

Those fiber wheels he was using are available as a complete kit from Grizzly Industrial. Search for "Razor Sharp System".
I picked up the set and was able to do a pretty nice job on my kitchen knives after about an hour of practice.

i got the wicked edge sharpener and a full set of stones and the strop paddles, now I can make surgically sharp knives by myself.
typically, younger people with good eyes and hand co-ordination are better at sharpening. I used to be really good at it but now I suck too.
Like the young man said, it's all in the maintaining the correct angle and pressure.
