  • I sharrpen for a living aswell with that same setup. I do not shapen my own knife with that setup and i'll tell you why. When making the bur you remove to much steal and cut a brand new edge. There is only so many times you can shapen a knife with that setup. If you want your knife to last forever I recomend using a stone or hand sharpner of some sort. If you get a good bur yes cut a new edge on a grindiing wheel. but just to touch it up you dont need to remove that much steel.

  • @nateL1914 I understand what you're sayin Nate, but I am very careful not to remove to much metal. ANY sharpening system you use CAN remove too much metal. It is more about the sharpener than the system. While yes, I don't recommend using a typical grinder, these wheels work great. I have different grits depending on how much/fast I want to remove metal, so I use the lighter grit on most knives. I commonly need to grind a brand new edge... that's why my customers use me.

  • Is a straight razor better than a mach 3.!!!?? Ha.I would cut my throat with that thing .

  • Using my iPhone. Can't find this person anymore. It is nice to know we can ship our knives there to be sharpen. I plan to look into this. Thanks for the video and information. God Bless America and long live the republic. Take care Sootch

  • This was awesome. I had a gentleman older do a knife that I was carrying at a gun show sharpen it. He had the equipment that the person in the video used. I was more than pleases with the edge he put on my knife

  • Thanks for sharing. Josh seems like a great guy offering a great server. Those seem like very good prices too. I only have a couple knives now so to save on shipping I'll wait till I get a few more. I assume he can sharpen blades on like a Leatherman right?

  • @duragezic sure thing bro... not a problem at all. I keep my leatherman nice and sharp :D

  • Dude I know what you mean, I can't sharpen a knife worth a darn either. I even have a lansky too, and still doesn't seem like I can ever get them where I want them. But I got friends that could sharpen a friggin hammer and shave with it.

  • Thank you for posting this video!!

  • Ever looked at a Wicked Edge?

  • I could definatley use having my KaBar that sharp

  • Thanks for showing this, good to see somebody who really knows their stuff.

In major cities (NYC most famously) there are guys who drive by every few days or weeks with a truck. They'll sharpen your kitchen knives, lawnmower, hedge trimmer, whatever. Usually similar price, $5/edge or sometimes less if you're a long time customer. The thing to watch out for is that some guys are hacks and take off tons of metal; after a few sharpening sessions you'll have no blade left!

  • @silvermediastudio thanks silver for the compliment! yeah, looking to eventually get into that... but got a full time job as a deputy right now, so dont' have time. am getting into sharpening lawn mower blades tho for the upcoming summer!

i know what you mean about removing too much metal...that's why i just get the edge to where it has a burr on both sides, and then polish it. there is no need to keep grinding away metal at that point... you are just destorying the blade! thanks for the tip!

  • i can nvr look at those straight razors the same way again due to this csi episode with a serial killer ah it still gives me the creeps

  • Those fiber wheels he was using are available as a complete kit from Grizzly Industrial. Search for "Razor Sharp System".

I picked up the set and was able to do a pretty nice job on my kitchen knives after about an hour of practice.

  • this guy know his stuff wow

  • Wooo....I was looking at one of those edge-pros the other night on line, expensive for the few knives I would sharpen.

  • Great vid really liked watching this.

    schmoo

  • What's the average turn around? I got a few I wanna send.

  • @glockfan86 His turn around time is one to two days, plus it's only $5. per straight edge regardless of the length. I'm a fan. Thanks~

  • @glockfan86 I have the Edge Pro Apex....... It works like a champ. And "$5 per straight edge" is a very good deal. Most pro's charge $1 to $2 per inch for sharpening. Sootch00 and all others....... LONG LIVE THE REPUBLIC AND GOD BLESS!!!!!

  • dude looks like an effin pro! i just use a lansky and a blet strop and thet will get most knives good enough for me

  • Anytime there's a knife sharpening video out I always check my pocket knife for sharpness.

Sure enough it needs touching up : )

    Thanks for sharing

  • good deal

  • sootch, did you have a Saiga-12 at the end of the video?

  • @stnls1911 yeah bro... its the wife's =D. sootch is holding the saiga 12 and i'm holding my 6.5 grendel w/ bushnell elite 4200 scope. we're hoping to do a review on them in the near future together.

  • damn i could start a business like this, i just need to invest in some biggger strops and a bigger sharpener than my sharpmaker

  • nice find sootch

  • God Bless America

  • Very informative. Thanks.

  • great video! thanks for the info i will defenitly be sending them my knives

  • no matter how you say it........ interesting and informative video, and long live the Palmetto State!

  • Very cool video ... thx.

  • Thanks Sootch, have been looking for a good demo of the Edge Pro for a while, AWESOME!

  • Hey sootch, you got any shotgun reviews coming up?

  • Great video. Nothing like a sharp knife!

  • Nice one. I have a sammi knife that was razor sharp. It aint so anymore and i cant seem to get it sharp again. This vid makes me reconsider how i must sharp it.

  • Fantastic video Sootch. Nice to see that still some people do master craftmanship.

  • Great vid and advice. I do not sharpen my better knives myself. For utility cutting, I use cheaper knives and sharpen them myself. My good knives, I let the pros sharpen. Excellent job. KEEP ON PREPPING

  • I never realized how much I didn't know about sharpening now. Hugely educational video. Thanks a lot!

  • Very nice! They Kabar and serrations are tricky.

  • Cool! Thanks for posting. Keep up the good work!

  • I too have a ZT0350 and it was razor sharp out of the box but b/c of the steel type, it was hard to resharpen. I could resharpen it to cut paper but not hair like it could when it was new. Maybe I need a professional to do mine too

  • @sarsattacks that's cuz it uses s30v steel... which is a great steel, holds a good edge, its just hard to sharpen =).

  • can you use a cloth polishing wheel to put a convew edge on your knives

  • Great vid sootch. Im right there with ya, no matter how hard I try I can never get the edge I want on my Knives. Thanks for sharing.

  • It warms your heart to see real talent in action.

  • Young man has talent!..Wish he was closer to me..Thanks for sharing this, was fun to watch...T

  • Very nice video sootch! I would like to get into knife sharpening myself, thanks for the video.

  • I notice his business has the same name as John Fitzen's in Salt Lake City. Probably a common name in the knife business.

  • I have already had Josh sharpen quite a few of my knives. I will vouch for him 100%. His integrity and pride in his work are unbelievable. He sharpened and honed my knives to a point where the edges actually give a mirror-like reflection. Check out w w w(dot)razor-edge-knives(dot)com

  • @fadetoblack73 Thanks for the business scott! Happy to do them for ya anytime... and their not just decorative edges on your collector knives, they will work well for a long time. You had some nice knives! talk to ya soon...

  • <.< and here i thought you took a trip to utah to visit Fitzen! how much did it cost to get them kukri's sharpened anyways?

  • Good vid I,ve been hunting someone myself thanks I,ve already call him.

  • nice work he does.

  • I learned 1 thing in this video... Stop sharping my knives... Outstanding video....

  • great video

  • Very cool Sootch. I'm in Greenwood, I may just have to bring some of my knives up there. Good to know there's someone in the area who does good work.

  • i got the wicked edge sharpener and a full set of stones and the strop paddles, now I can make surgically sharp knives by myself.

typically, younger people with good eyes and hand co-ordination are better at sharpening. I used to be really good at it but now I suck too.

Like the young man said, it's all in the maintaining the correct angle and pressure.

  • I bet thatpiano is coated in rouge.

  • Dude you live in Greenville I live in Winston-Salem, NC

  • Gotta love a guy running a business out of his garage or living room!

  • Simply amazing edge! I could never do that, I suck at sharpening knives. I'll be sending some!

  • What Rifle is that your holding at the end of the video Sootch?

  • @insaneman3000 I'm not 100% but it looks like a Saiga 12 gauge, a shotgun.

  • Nice video. I'll be sending them some knives.

  • I understand well, Sootch; I also have several sharpening tools and kits, but I still take my knives to a pro, especially when I buy a new knife. Yeah, most knives come out of the box sharp, but the factory angle that come with all blades no longer satisfies me. I guess I'm too damn spoiled now. Once you have a well sharpened knife, anything factory made just ain't gonna do it!

  • Chef's Choice station 130. I bought one after a couple guys at work told me about it. Works great, and no I do not work in association with them at all. Just trying to be helpful

  • Cool vid!

  • god damn, even sharpening knives require so much skills.

  • damn this video was legit. Awesome stuff man

  • holy shit thats one sharp knife :D if I lived in the us i'd order from him, 5 bucks isnt anything

  • Great job man

  • This was one of your best videos yet brotha! I'm really into doin it myself, gave me alot of research points to start from to help me further my process in doing so,**Knuckle Bump**

  • That is a great, teaching video, thanks for sharing!!!

  • @sootch00 nice video! Do they accept knives by mail to be sharpened?

  • Nice job guys.

  • Good GOD! Im sending a bunch of my blades to this guy! Also like to support a fellow brother in blue! Thanks so much for this video!

  • This guy definitely knows what he is doing. Great video!

  • A piano and a knife sharpener in one room? Awesome. My kind of guy! Once I get me some knives actually worth sharpening well...I'll keep him in mind!

  • great find sootch! keep the good work coming!

  • That guy really has his act together. Very impressive work.

  • Cool!

  • very nice!

  • I have the gift of knowing the stone....all about feel...all mine will shave!

  • You live in South Carolina? I noticed the 864 number

  • @MustangWW2 Oh Yeah, I'm in Greenville.

  • @sootch00 I'm in Greenville too. except in Texas instead south Carolina

  • I was able to get one of those simple glock blades for 10.00 bucks , ya i could use this for my tools as well. Thanks for the info.

  • what rile is that, and what scopes is that??

  • scandi grind is best for ease of sharpening

even a caveman can do it!

  • Nice video that guy looks like he knows what he is doing good video

  • Great video. Thanks for the info.

  • wow wish i had the know how to do that

  • I like that you can hit the stairmaster while you waiting !!

  • I thought this was going to be a Fitzen guest appearence.

  • Its weird,I can do this myself and it never bothers me.But listening to other people do it makes my skin crawl.

  • Great vid - thanks!

  • ★★★★★

  • cool stuff. I just recently got a Tormek T-7 and it works very well.

  • @supercrewzz He starts out at $5 for straight edge knives no matter what size. It's a deal and worth the effort. His website link is in the description. Thanks~

  • @DeleteMeOnline Thanks man, it was a lot of fun watching him work. Take care~

  • Thanks Bro- Impressive!

  • Seems like a real cool dude! Great video!

  • I have that same tool at my grandpop's machine shop, If i tried to sharpen my Recon1 on it though i would probably not be consistant with my strokes, I'd probably have to get a rotating vice on it so it stays steady. Good video though, maybe if i practice enough from sharpening my own and my friend's knives i might get as good as this guy right here.

  • Interesting video, I seen it done this way before also, I'll stick with my edge pro thoe! Thankyou

  • Nice and sharp.

  • very cool

  • I have a sword that needs a little sharpening.

  • I definitely understand the feeling! Especially with curved blade shapes. The Sharpmaker helps, but it all takes lots of practice. But every once in a while, when it's necessary, a professional is required!

  • Not just my field knives, but I'm a chef so I send my kitchen knives out to a local guy ever month or so. Got to love professional edges!

  • Lansky makes my knives shaving sharp every time.

  • I'm so glad you post around this time when I'm bored at work. ;) Love your vids Sootch!

  • @pocketcheese1 Thanks Brother~ Glad I could help pass the time.
