The sad irony is that many neocons support Rand now as he happens to oppose intrusions of freedom supported the current democratic administration. I would argue that this is the ONLY reason for their support. One would wonder how much support he'd get on these very same issues with republican control of the executive branch. Bradley manning showed us facts about a bad history of this country, he is a patriot. Investigate them is a patriot act. We must not allow our military high ranks repeating them. We must not allow Wall St bankers hijacking our resource development efforts. We must not allow Chamber of Commerce hijacking our democratic election with foreign funds.
Some things about Rand Paul I absolutely hate and other times like right now I love the guy, he is all over the map. Even staunch liberals like Barbara Boxer supported the extension of the Patriot Act even though she rhetorically called for amendments to protect civil liberties, this is what I call plain BS. The Patriot Act treats the US constitution like a piece of toilet paper, but no one has standing to challenge it because they are detained in perpetuity without habeas corpus or trial.

It's not an unpopular view, everyone I've asked about this issue is against it, even people who still think Bush was a good president told me they are against the Patriot Act, maybe I'm a statistical anomaly, but I've never met anyone outside of media or internet persona who supports the Patriot Act in any way shape or form.

I certainly didn't say that it was acceptable. I've written articles about it since somewhere in the 1990s. My warning here is that it's clear that the new batch of Tea Party Republicans are misrepresenting the problem with Constitutional compliance. That's a very bad sign. Simply writing to your Congressman isn't going to be enough, or this problem would have been solved already.

Hopefully the Senate will put a stop to run amuck laws and intrusions into the honest and tax payers. The Patriot Act must be removed. The 4th Amendment has to be protected in order for Americans to be protected against a rouge government. The Federal Government has intruded into hundreds of Americans lives without the use of the 4th Amendment.

Not just citizens! The 4th amendment restrains the government from violating natural rights which belong to all people, not just citizens. That means the government violates the Constitution every time it does not get a warrant, inside our borders or out, regardless of whether the person violated is a citizen or not. Sen. Paul failed to include the warrentless searches of every passenger attempting to travel by air. As a retied airline pilot (Pan Am, 1967-91), I know these security measures to be merely cosmetic; and, rather, a siezing of power for power's sake by a federal bureaucracy with security as the excuse. The security of airliners must be returned to the operator, and this power-mad bureaucracy dumped.

Some things about Rand Paul I absolutely hate and other times like right now I love the guy, he is all over the map. Even staunch liberals like Barbara Boxer supported the extension of the Patriot Act even though she rhetorically called for amendments to protect civil liberties, this is what I call plain BS. The Patriot Act treats the US constitution like a piece of toilet paper, but no one has standing to challenge it because they are detained in perpetuity without habeas corpus or trial.

@Zyworski Ah, but Rand Paul is not "all over the map." He may be the only consistent politician in Congress. Whenever there is an issue, he choses individual freedom over the power of the government. That's consistency. Both "progressives" and "conservatives" want to use government power for their own ends. Libertarians favor the individual over the government, regardless of the issue.

I certainly didn't say that it was acceptable. I've written articles about it since somewhere in the 1990s. My warning here is that it's clear that the new batch of Tea Party Republicans are misrepresenting the problem with Constitutional compliance. That's a very bad sign. Simply writing to your Congressman isn't going to be enough, or this problem would have been solved already.

My freshman rep, Jaime Herrera Beutler (R, WA-3), needs to watch this video. She voted AGAINST the 4th amendment and the Bill of Rights. But the WA Republicans weren't alone. Hopefully the Senate will put a stop to run amuck laws and intrusions into the honest and tax payers. The Patriot Act must be removed. The 4th Amendment has to be protected in order for Americans to be protected against a rouge government. The Federal Government has intruded into hundreds of Americans lives without the use of the 4th Amendment.

And oppose it he did! Last night, the Senate tried to sneak through a 3-year extension under unanimous consent, but Senator Paul prevented this by standing up and objecting.
I have never been so proud of any of my representatives. A lot of us worked full time (or more!) for a year and a half to elect Rand, and boy did we get our money's worth!
I always liked Rand, but now I'm starting to love Rand the way I love his father.

@0dchambers I agree they are all a bunch of traitors. I could not believe it when I got the list of how they voted. What part of this did they not understand? I am looking for the next Town Hall mtg to bring this up and get direct info. Too much confusing info out there to rely on any of it.

Not just citizens! The 4th amendment restrains the government from violating natural rights which belong to all people, not just citizens. That means the government violates the Constitution every time it does not get a warrant, inside our borders or out, regardless of whether the person violated is a citizen or not. Our rights are human rights that exist, period.

I will back Rand Paul when he and the rest of the Republicans in the US congress demand Obama release all information he Obama has spent over a million dollare to hid from the American people about his past . And that includes Obama's birth certificate, and school records . This is the most important issue that the US Congress has to face . They the US congress can not put this issue off any longer. The US security is a risk if this Fraud is aloud to continue to be the President .

Sen. Paul failed to include the warrentless searches of every passenger attempting to travel by air. As a retied airline pilot (Pan Am, 1967-91), I know these security measures to be merely cosmetic; and, rather, a siezing of power for power's sake by a federal bureaucracy with security as the excuse. The security of airliners must be returned to the operator, and this power-mad bureaucracy dumped.
