I totally agree with the many positive comments on this video - she makes such an understatedly powerful, imposing Cesare and wow, what a voice! Just thought I would add that there is a CD of Giulio Cesare with Mijanovic as Cesare, also featuring Magdalena Kozena, Anne-Sofie von Otter and Bejun Mehta .. Mehta is also I think, on good form on this CD. (Archiv label, Marc Minkowski & Musiciens du Louvre).
This is so lightyears more brilliant than Cesare or any other Senesino role sung by anybody else! Jesus it's even faster here than on her own glorious Cesare CD!!
I greatly admire contraltos and Marijana comes with a seemingly frail body, it is so surprising. Her serious mien gives her that unfathomable mystique.
This Aria so fast and it's already needs to Marijana Mijanović helps cos she the perfect Conteralto for it, simply her voice so clear to match this splendid work and this performance between whole Orchestra and Marijana Mijanović voice completely astonishing indeed ''Marijana Mijanović'' her throat like a BOOM everybodys i'll get hurts if stand front of her throat.
I've grown frustrated... I wish they had released the whole aria. By the way, Marijana will be singing Stabat Mater from Pergolese in Frankfurt on July 20th. I shall be there. Never heard her sing Pergolese, but there is no question in my mind that she'll be nothing short of brilliant as usual. I just can't wait. Well, I just wanted to let you know it, you who've had the chance to listen to that divine voice from above, and to see that surreal vocal actress.
Oooh, don't start with that, I'm already enraged it wasn't released as a DVD. :) Also, it is such a shame that she never comes to Serbia, I would really love to hear and see her live. The classical music scene here is downright tragic. The portion of the budget given on culture is so small that nothing worth listening to is ever properly organised. A pity, such a remarcable talent almost never to be heard in her own country...
Well, being a somewhat poor college student at the moment, my financial situation hardly allows me to make such a long trip... If she was to come to Hungary or Croatia, I might have a chance, but with the things as they are now, I think it will pass a year or two before I finally get to experience The Divine. :)
Yes, travelling and booking a hotel can be costly. Before Zurich, I hadn't seen her since April 2007, for the same reason, but now I'm about to finish my training and I should get descent wages, so I'll try to make the most of it and travel to see my favourite Baroque artists more. You'll be able to do that too, when you finish your studies. In the meantime, she may decide to give some concert in Serbia.... Many great artists end up getting back to their roots when they've risen to stardom.
Yes, I do hope it will be like this. I know Minkowski (who is of Polish descent, obviously) did something similar in Krakow, I believe... As for Marijana, the problem is definitely not her. I know she has shown interest of singing in Serbia on several occasions, but the organisation of such events was usually so poor that the last Serbian audiences heard of her was in 2006, I think... Too little is given on culture in these tough times, it's such a shame.
If my legs weren't jelly I'd be giving a standing ovation... oh. my. god. Thank you so much (and thank you Gudrun74 for favouriting it so I could find it...)
Haha, yeah, I assumed your reaction was going to be something along the line of this. :) I am only very sorry there wasn't more shown of Marijana's singing in this documentary. You can watch the whole thing on armycasa's channel. Just this. I wonder if more footage of these recording sessions wes made...
Seriously, you're preparing these MM videos perfectly to hear them over and over. Like her Penelope. When I start, I can't stop and then 3 hours have passed ... I don't get anything done but I'm happy.
I know exactly what you mean. To be perfectly frank, I've been doing the same thing with this particular video. :) The only thing that bothers me is that Marijana appears in so few videos / DVD-s / documentaries. It is a real rarity to find her. If you consider the degree of perfection of her art, she is still not famous enough...

I think it's so funny that the musicians are so shocked that a woman can sing so low. At 1:14, the man behind Marijana is like: "Hmm, ok!"
She is wonderful!
