Oh how well i remember the heady days of the Hillgrove Demos. Coach loads of idiots turning up pissed and stoned to abuse the Police. My particular favourite was the lovely girl from Bristol who threw a can of beer at a Police Horse then spat at its rider. Animal welfare? I think not.

I travelled all the way from Grimsby to be there, thinking on the way that there would be only a few of us there. How wrong I was. We were there in the thousands and seeing you there, the fact that you all cared, made me feel so humble to be part of such a movement.

I was charged with violent disorder following a protest at Hillgrove. That was over 10 years ago - watching this and knowing we closed the place down makes me happy.

me too i was found guilty and to start with got 18 months but got it reduced to 250 hours comunity service did you get convicted ?

I got 80 hours community service - l was lucky many others got 12 months custodial for doing far less. Political sentencing to "make an example of" I'm afraid.

I stopped watching right at when operation began and just skipped as much as i could...it's too painful. i'm vegan, but of all animals, i have very deep, primal, passionate love for cats. my heart is torn in half when i see them in pain. this is such madness, such barbarism, such utter horror. does anyone know the contact info for this mr. brown -- a modern-day dr. mengele? i'd like to write him a little letter.

While I don't condone violence, is it any wonder why he was letter bombed after we witness scenes like this? The only reason that I didn't cry while watching this is because I have worked at a cat shelter in the past and have seen it all before.

In retrospect, I can say that I really miss the the passion of animal rights activism in the UK, something I don't see a lot of in my home country.

I was at one of those protests when I was living in the UK in the late 90's (it would have been April-May 98). The police presence that day was incredible, I think it cost about 1 million quid. Yet by the end of the day not one window of his house was intact and his roof was missing half the tiles.
