  • Freakin brilliant. Thx

  • Thank you SO much for this tip! I had to redo part of a hot tub air system and had no idea how I was going to cut the original piping out. You saved me a TON of frustration!

  • @saluki1 Glad to hear it! +++Bob

  • The hell did I just see??? Amazing

  • now this is truly a tip worth its weight.

  • great video with some very useful tips. thanks. Delta BAP

  • That is awesome! I have to cut a piece of PVC pipe in super-tight quarters and this should be a great tip.

  • great tip. it also works great with wire.

  • Great tip! You are an excellent presenter. Very professional.

  • cool trick....you learn something new everyday, that's why the old woman never wanted to die.

  • damn

  • damn!! thank you !!

  • thanks for the tip :)

  • same way they cut bone off in the old days

  • @meangene7525 Are you serious! Sounds horrific! +++Bob

  • @HomeRemodelWorkshop for an exaple type in War Surgery on youtube

  • lol i was just about to be a smart ass and mention the wire cutters................damit!

  • Fantastic tip! I'll be using this tons over the weekend!...

  • great little tip would never have taut of sumtin like that to have in my toolbox cheers

  • Great tip thanks! Just one question. By chance is this not as effective with heavier PVC? I tried to remove a toilet flange from underneath by cutting the pipe with this method (using a wire saw) and it did not make a dent. Its as though I could not generate enough friction to heat the heavier pipe.

  • Cool. I have a cable saw but if I lose it I know to use a nylon string now. Thanks!

  • great tip, never would have thought that nylon string work through it without breaking.

  • Clever! your a master plumber mate! welldone...And who are the 3 clowns that gave this a thunbs down? Thats got to be human gelousy haha...Good one Bob.

  • Top tip mate great for when your out on a call without the right tool..

  • Thank you for sharing this information.

  • Cool as hell and very simple!

    Thanks.

  • GOOD THING TO KNOW, THANKS.

  • cool

  • Wow!! You're a master. Thank you for sharing this!!

  • home depot, lowes, supply houses sale a metal cable that is for situations like this. 10 times faster and less work.

  • That is awesome great tip and cheap

  • awesome, good stuff

  • Excellent .. been a plumber for 20 years never seen anything like this before

  • I've been cutting PVC with Nylon Mason Line since 1995. You won't believe how smooth and clean the cut is. I simply use the Wal-Mart "secureLine"...#18x225 ft. It's $2.94 a roll. That's a lot of PVC cutting bro!

It should be noted that the first real body armor based on man made fibers was made out of 100% Nylon. The stuff has a ton of uses.

  • Old guitar string is good for this too and works much faster. Didn't think that nylon string could do it too. Good tip!

Although, always looking for good use for used guitar string. LOL

  • Cool !!!!!!

  • My apprentice told me about this, and of course I told him he was full of s**t. I still need to try it to believe it, but it looks viable!

  • wow thanks bob!!!

  • Good tip you had there Bob. You should charge the plumbers for this information. They have the money! ha

  • Excellent, dude!

  • Brilliant! I have worked with master plumbers that haven't even showed me a tip like this. Cool as hell!

  • Glad you got a kick out of it! I also would'nt have believed it untill I saw it +++Bob

  • @downtownchampion

Yes, this really works, I used to do this all the time with pipe underground. I learned this trick from my brother-out-law (that's what I call him, love the guy, not like that). He said, "I couldn't believe this until I saw that it worked."

    Good stuff :-)

  • Sweet tip. Thanks.

  • Thanks NICE TIP !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks Dude.

This is FANtastic. Buddy. you are the (G.O.A.T) Greatest Of All Time

  • genius!

  • This is actually a great tip ,Learned it back in the early 70's, to make the second cut you can shim the pipe from behind and two screws to hold a piece of wood in front, or you can go out and purchase an oscillating cutting tool for about 250 bucks. Two screws and two pieces of wood is cheaper.

  • Two screws and a piece of wood or $250 Which way would I go? HMMMMMM Thanks +++Bob

  • never thought about that. Always used to using the wires to cut.

  • Bob, I am replacing my old 2 inch Kitchen Brass P-trap with PVC, Im having a problem. The sink strainer and the pipe opening that extends from the wall are to close almost directly on top of each other. The PVC Trap is wider in diameter than the Brass. with more fittings needed. It looks impossible to layout in a workable fashion. Is there ever a case when PVC cannot replace brass because of space constraints?

  • A great tip.

  • Great tip - and very timely for me. But I'm wondering about naking the second cut when the pipe no longer has the rigidity to provide resistance.

  • goood idea

    خطيرة الحركة

  • HOLY SHIT!! that's bad ass trick you got there.

Anybody on here have any experiance in replacing bathroom cabinets I' changing a single vanity to a double vanity. I have no idea to you typically goto tear out the wall and run it inside the wall and how much am I getting into.

Somebody already bought it and it wasn't my choice but it looks like I'm the one stuck putting it in (mom's house) so any help or advice from anyone would be great.

  • iNGENIOUS, BOB.

  • Sometimes I feel that these videos are worth making! Thanks for watching!+++Bob

  • that is a fantastic tip... god knows how many times ive been struggling underneath a bath or in a tight space with a hacksaw blade. lol

  • I think you will like this method +++Bob

  • Hahaha I feel like such a sucker for buying the metal version! Of course I was able to use it on 2 copper pipes in the same tight spot.

  • nice tip man, i am a plumber from scotland and have never seen this done before, i shal be trying it nxt time im in this situation

  • Great tip!! It came in handy for my on my basement remodeling... Thanks

  • pretty great tip

  • Great tip.... would have never thought of that.

    Thank you

  • holy shit!! I thought I knew all the tricks...That is a good tip, I tried it and it works Thanks!!!

  • That's GREAT!! Thank You!!

  • Great tip I need to get into a tight area and i will try this.

  • hee hee hee..

I can't wait to bet someone that I can cut PVC pipe with a string. Of coure I will try it out first ;)

  • good trick or else just use a hacksaw blade on its own

  • good tip but the pipe would have to b bracketed are supported in some way im sure

  • Very Nice Bob , live and learn . In Portugal we use many tip´s like this , but this one is new. Thank´s

  • If you would like to share some of your tips I would love to hear about them Thanks +++Bob

  • this doesnt seem to work on my cast iron waste pipe, ive followed your instructions but the string keeps snapping, my fingers are blue and ive lost feeling in 3 fingers, cheers pal, im off to buy a saw!

  • Lol I just do not understand what the problem could possibley be! +++Bob

  • @davetip75

i had to read it twice. that's how stupid this comment was. then i burst out laughing.

  • @davetip75 Hence why the title is how to cut "PVC" pipe.

  • @davetip75 Awww you got saw fingers now lol

  • @davetip75 brilliant lol

  • skills!

  • ???????? Thanks for watching+++Bob

  • what a fantastic tip mate,..i'll try that out! ;)

  • Very cool!

  • thts coo

  • That's a nice trick.

  • Thanks Bob! I wish I saw this video last night before I had to bust through the opposite (finished) wall to get a jigsaw in there. Complete disaster. I need to redo it anyway, so I'll use this technique

    Awesome, thanks again.

  • thats a very good tip !!

  • why?

whats wrong with just getting the blade of your hacksaw and going for it thats the way i have always done it.

  • I guess you have been lucky never getting into a tight spot+++Bob

  • That was very interesting, something most DIY would never have thought of, thank you.

  • i like the song.

  • i hate the song.

  • abs would just melt together

  • I do this at school cut chairs in half

  • yep thanks for that bob but I already knew this one ;)

  • I've used a large nail in the jaws of some multi-grips and used a blow torch to heat up the nail and then burn through the plastic but this is better as there's no noxious fumes.

  • WOW...so simple yet so baller

  • Thanks, Bob. Very cool trick of the trade. Goes to show that brains can outdo muscle in some cases.

  • i just don't know why people are so amazed since the pvc is plastic and the heat will melt plastic, what is the big deal.

they should be suprise that they never thought about using nylon or wire for that matter.

  • I think most are surprised that something so simple can work so well. Not necessarily That it is some kinda parlor trick. Thanks for the post+++Bob

  • not every one is as clever as you :-D

  • someone told me you could do this but i had see it myself thanks *****

  • im a plumber and thats amazing lol...im putting nylon string in my workbox..does that work for abs pipe as well?

  • I have not tried it with abs pipe but I don't see why it would'nt====Bob

  • Way slick.

Money saving idea...heck that's a money maker. Surely there's always several people on a job site or neighbors willing to bet serious cash that string won't cut a PVC pipe that fast.

    Cha-ching. Thanks.

  • Nice job.

  • very good bob

  • I never would have believed it, had i not seen it with my own eyes.

  • Thanks, bob, I appreciate this tip. Those wire cutters they sell at the hardware store are garbage.

  • Sweet!

  • great tip, im impressed

  • Hi Bob, many thanks that was a great tip. !

  • You are very welcome I hope it has some use for you===Bob

  • Wow. Nice.

  • Hay I dont mean to be an ass but your right they do sell that wire tool for a few bucks at most plumbing wholesalers and home and garden stores. This is like saying in case you dont have a screw driver you can use your butter knife.

  • I get your point, but sometimes stopping a project to run to supply house or hardware store not very time effective, also the string I am talking about cost pennys not dollars and a homeowner or novice remodeler may not get into a situation very often. If I were to ruin one of my wifes butter knifes I would catch HE## and that would NOT be worth it.Just an alternative===Bob

  • Fantastic tip, thanks very much

  • A totally smokin idea ..if I ever have to do that job ....that is how I will get it done....thanks a bunch !

  • Those wire saws for cutting PVC become frayed and useless after 2-3 uses. Not a good use of money.

  • cool!

  • sweet nice 1

  • Thanks+++Bob

  • that will make my life abit better

  • Very cool! Thanx for your suggestions!

  • You are welcome===Bob

  • THATS OLD SCHOOL

  • love the video, great tip like always...

I just found your channel, and i must say after watching a couple of your videos i had to subscribe. Keep up the great work.

  • Thanks===BOB

  • That was a very useful tip...no doubt i will be putting it into practice in the near future! thanks...

  • Thanks for watching===Bob

  • very nice idea, this will work well.

  • Sioux chief shops got a special wire to do that.

  • I did mention that they were available at stores at the end of the video. Thanks===Bob

  • verry nice... lol, good one

  • Thanks Bob. Will this work on ABS pipe as well? I need to do this in my bathroom.

  • As long as its a plastic based pipe should not be a problem---Bob

  • Have to admit I'd be out looking for a wire saw myself, have to try this out.

  • Keep in mind with wire if you go to fast and overheat wire they will snap,go slow and steady to get best results---Bob

  • thank for tip i need something to use today for this exact thing

  • Let me know how it goes --Bob

  • They actually make a wire tool with handles on the end that also does this.

  • Yes,I actually said that at end of video.lol Thanks for watching---Bob

  • Bob your a legend..... Love the tip..

  • Thank you,ALMIGHTY---Bob

  • racheting pvc cutters...about $50...work fantastic. company is called rothenberger, the line of tools is SuperEgo....the make cutters for 1/2" pipe all the way up to 2.5" pipe

  • great stuff,i would have never thought of that,i'd have probably smashed my wall to bits.

  • That was pretty slick!

  • Can you do it with say, 4" PVC? Or is there a size limit?

  • Obviously it will take a little longer, but yes it will ---Bob

  • That.. Is...Brilliant!! I'm a plumber in the UK, and I've never heard of doing that! The amount of bloody times I've been in a situation where that trick would've saved me so much time and frustration. Thanks mate!

  • Glad to hear it will be put to use --Bob

  • Thanks Bob!

  • Well, being a plumber, thanks 4 the tip Bob, but just a few things about plumbing. Plumbing is difficult because there is never enough area to work in, which makes life a little difficult to work in sometimes but,u get over it and secondly, the string creates Friction, which then cuts the pipe, not heat. Also,u can use piano and guitar wire which does exactly the same thing but is also good 4 cutting mirrors off walls where silicone or liquid nails has been applied.

  • Thanks for your post always appreciate hearing from a pro.Checked out your channel would love to visit your country someday always been a dream of mine. Gday Bob

  • I like it. Now, do they make string for cast iron pipes?

  • Not yet lol, but they do make an abrassive sawzall blade just for cast that works pretty well Bob

  • Yeah, I have seen those. What would be nice is a sawzall that has an adjustable stroke. You know what I mean when that blade rams into the opposing wall (sometimes through the opposing wall) or into the inside diameter of whatever your cutting. I really like my adjustable angle Porter Cable sawzall. Seems like you can beat the hell out of it without worrying about breaking anything.

  • wow!!! I should hav done that

  • Wow that was a great tip.

  • Best tip ever!!

  • Great tip!

  • Now THATS AN AWSOME TIP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
