Correction on the functions of the various components of the military: the National Guard is under the control of the various state governors, but can be nationalized if the situation demands. The Reserves are national, and can be used either as individual replacements or as entire units depending on the needs of the service.
Why police officers look askance at gun-carriers: because they are conditioned to think of themselves as the only ones authorized to carry weapons.
I didn't think this conversation was about being Active Duty or Guard. The fact is that the Guard and Active Duty have the same rights where I'm from. Both may Open carry or CC without a permit, as long as they carry their military I.D.
You do not see CRIMINALS/FELONS open carring they normaly carry conceald Lawabiding citizens that open carry ARE LEGAL TO CARRY.
THE POLICE THROUGH OUT THE U.S NEEDS TO READ AND UNDERSTAND THE LAWS REGAURDING OPEN CARRY IN THERE STATE.THE 2ND AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTATUTION GIVES US THE RIGHT TO OPEN CARRY WITH OUT THE THREAT OF PROSICUTION FROM CITY,STATE AND COUNTY AUTHORITIES. OREGON WERE I RESIDE IS AN OPEN CARRY STATE. Thank you
What idiotic statement you made. Why if it is legal would a criminal not open carry also. When the cops stop checking every one with a gun. Won’t criminal open carry? Making inane statements like that it paints all gun owner’s as idiots. Why do you want to do that? I don’t know what the law in your state was. Before it was either illegal to open carry OR no one was doing so. Given time the cops will not be checking. So the BAD people will also carry in the open.
@samten10a Does your argument also apply to concealed carry? Should the police check everyone who walks by to make sure that they aren't carrying concealed - and if they are, make sure they have a permit? Do police stop every adult that walks by a school to make sure that they are not a convicted sex offender and not allowed to be there? Criminals don't follow the lays, which is why they are criminals.
@samten10a a criminal will do his best to avoid detection, he will blend into the general public. if he has a firearm on him he is just a big target and WILL draw police attention. any crook with half a brain wouldnt open carry. its never been illegal to open carry, i dont know where you got that but your absolutely wrong.
if you open carry at a parade your asking for trouble theres families with children who get scared by the sight of a gun. the man was irresponsible. I would hae stopped him too
@666soldierofmetal There are families with children everywhere.... Is there anywhere on this planet that you can go in "public" and not have that apply? Can I not carry in a restaurant because there are families? Think about what you are saying....
@Martial024 actually no you cannot open carry in most resturaunts because of the same reason. disorderly conduct can be given to people for doing this. any more questions. our dept just had a big fuss about this last month
@Pafoofnik1 madison, wisconsin there was a group of men in a culvers open carrying and were arrested on disorderly conduct, after failing to provide an id. also dc is a pretty open statute last I knew where it was more a discretionary thing on behalf of the officer.
@666soldierofmetal: Yes I read that part. Did you read the part where you said they were arrested for failing to provide ID, not for open carrying?
Like I said. I think this incident happened in Michigan where it would not be lawful for you to arrest them for 'disorderly conduct' just for open carrying.
@666soldierofmetal: "two of the men refused to show identification and were subsequently handcuffed, ticketed for obstruction of justice and searched until identification could be found... those citations were thrown out"
Later "new citations were issued to all five men for disorderly conduct." then the Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said: "The department believes that mere open carry of a firearm... should not result in a disorderly conduct charge."
@666soldierofmetal: As long as they stay within the confines of the law. So I still stand by my comment that, depending on the state, a 'disorderly conduct' arrest based only on open carry would not be backed by the actual law.
If a person walks around in front of a cop open carrying and the cops does nothing in right to carry state. It tell me he (cops) is trying to up hold the constitution. Along with the mayor and city council is watching what the cops are doing. If the cop does harass the citizen then it tell me the whole city council need to be replaced for failing to supervise the cops.
The reason why they don't know is because most cities have liberal or very liberal mayors and police chiefs(liberal ones) refuse to inform the officers and the departments so they can harass and deter lawfull citizens from open carry. So, not informing the officers they hope create a deterence toward michigan open carry.
it is unlawful PER the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO infringe on a persons 2nd amendment RIGHT to bear arms. New legislation was recently passed to help protect gun-owners exercising their rights. what idiot says that someone exercising his right is giving gun-owners a bad name?? that's the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. those cops had NO right to harrass that young man who stand up to PROTECT US, risking his life for our freedoms.
xmanhockey7 you every right to stick your dick in a blender does that mean your going to do it! All he was doing was looking for attention he is part of a group in Grand RApids who do this stuff all the time .
YOU GUYS ARE ALL FUCKIN RETARDS! Ask your self what was the reason why this so called National guard who risks his life for his county who has never even been out of the u.s. needed to have a hand gun on his side . I love my guns but its issues like this that give all us gun owner a bad name.
@lineman7200 The REASON is, because it's your CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to OPEN CARRY a firearm. It's NOT against the law. Nobody needs a REASON to exercise their rights, except for the fact that they NEED to be exercised to remind IDIOTS like you that don't KNOW what they are. The stupidty of my brethren is astounding. Go educate yourself about the laws of the land that you were born in.
Not law enforcement. Enforcement of ignorance of the law which ( in violation of rights) is no exception for us slaves. Might as well roust random pedestrians to make sure they are not felons and their papers are in order. Fire the jack-booted thugs! Why's he even checking for CCW? This goon is an incompetent highway robber. That's all he is.
@ShinyBast Yes they totally are used just as much as active duty. They do the same training, same mission. The only difference is when they are not deployed they are part time. But they get deployed just the same as active duty
@18davidt I was active duty before i was guard and thats the biggest lie ever told,my PFCs on active duty knew more stuff than the E-7s in the guard, when i deployed with my active duty unit (1-503rd Infantry) we took legit contact everyday, had multiple KIAs in our platoon and when my guard unit deployed they didnt do shit, lied about taking contact and didnt have one wounded, they dont do the same training at all or the same mission, how good would you be at ur job if u worked 2 days a month
@recon82nd So you had one bad experience with a deployment with the National Guard and you are pinning all of the National Guard based on that one experience? And yes they do work 2 days a month and 2 weeks in the summer under normal conditions. However when they are getting deployed they spend a few months on active duty doing training before they ever even go in country.
@18davidt I did 8 years all together before i got out, made many friends on AD and kept up wiht them and all of our expeicances are simular, overwight guys, embelsihment about combat.and the "pre training" they get is not what we got on active duty we were doing BN sized life fires with BDE arty, air and tanks. The guard train up with a brush up of basic training stuff, biggest waste ever and thats why they taught basic traing they know they are not getting high speed missions
@recon82nd what unit were you with? also if they were out on the raids and you guys were sitting in towers, working the gate or driving you were not doing anything high speed they were and yes we had our little guard cheerleaders that tried to suck our dicks in the chow hall to feel like they were as cool as us, you guys were given BS meaningless jobs and you know it...
@DrummingBonham The difference between National Guard and reserve is National Guard is paid by the federal part of the government and the Reserves are paid by the state they both have deployments like Active duty when they go overseas its for 13-15 months

question: why does it scare cops when normal people carry a gun?
answer: we are not as intimidated by them as most people are.

@michaelruth75
Its because if the police screw up and decide to draw/fire their weapons...they might get someone firing back that can ACTUALLY hit something...

someone who is intending to commit a crime either has a gun concealed or in his hand. not in a holster on his side
i would venture to say, given proper study, that 99% of people who commit gun crimes dont even own a holster or a legal gun.

@666soldierofmetal: Where is this incident, Michigan? If so, then your 'disorderly conduct' arrest would not be backed by the law.
Michigan's disorderly conduct statute doesn't even mention open carry. In fact, not one of the listed offenses even comes close.
I guess it depends on the state. In my state, such an arrest would also not be legal.
