@british123able lol okay, most of the greatest minds were atheist and made the greatest research and inventions that your useing 2day, not hatin but ur an idiot.
@british123able that statement is void of any factual information that actually proves god exists. If every person on this planet believed in god, that does not provide sufficient evidence to prove god.
@british123able Apparently you are unaware of what an "Appeal to Authority" logical fallacy is.
While appeal to authority is acceptable when the authority is a legitimate expert on the subject, "the best minds that ever lived" do not constitute an expert on the subject of God, so therefore, it is fallacious.
@british123able Actually, most of the US Founding Fathers wer Deist or Agnostic. Einstein was a pan-theist, basically an Atheist. An overwhelming majority of the National Academy of Sciences is Atheist. Galileo Galilee went against the teachings of the church in favor of science. The best minds are the ones that don't give in to superstition and dogma, and instead seek the true answers to the universe instead of taking the lazy way out and attributing everything to "God magic"
@kilroy055 i think you will find the absolute best minds that ever lived, did infact believe in god.do you really think the universe came from nothing? puhleez. out of nothing nothing comes.how does one explain ghosts/spirits? they are real. energy cannot be destroyed. even when stars go supernova the remnants of the star accumulate and form a new star. the process is ongoing after death.
Did the "absolute best minds" use god to discover/invent/prove their work? No.
Nobody gives a shit what you "think" about a "universe from nothing", any more than we give a shit what you think about unicorns, talking donkeys, and jewish carpenter zombie saviors.
You have not provided evidence, a theoretical framework, nor any testable (counter) claims.
Your comment and arguments are therefore, useless.
@krautinator you are way out of your league coming onto a c.s lewis video and commenting. go away little boy. go to university and learn from them rather than trying to educate yourself from watching youtube videos. better still do a ouija board and report back. that will put the fear of god in you. if your a none believer then you have nothing to worry about. and dont forget!...report back. have fun
Uh-huh. Ouija board. Right. Because a person who is skeptical of meta-physical claims would totally believe in a Ouija board. Milton Bradley is teh truth!!!
You're a moron. TEH FEAR OF GOD DERP DERP.
Name calling and trying to talk down to people, and I'm the little boy?
This is not helping your argument. What was your argument, anyway? I see a post full of ignorant burblings and piss-poor grammar, but no argument. No facts. No proposed theories. Just horseshit.
@krautinator listen internet troll, go awayyy you annoying little fuck. your like a fly that keeps landing on an expensive dinner. infact you are a fly on the wind shield of my life.
@british123able Gee golly garsh, the internet's next comedian!
You commented to me first. You don't want a conversation, all you want to do is shut people up who don't agree with you and call you out on your bullshit.
If you're so fucking annoyed, then stop reading my goddamn comments. No one is putting a gun to your head here and forcing you to read and reply.
@british123able They do make that, it comes out of the end of a cock... be sure to take it orally or apply it liberally to your face. The only cunt here is you, bitching about my comments, but then still bothering to read and reply. Boy, you sure are showing how "out of my league" you are.
@british123able Stop with the bald assertions, please. Do you have a shred of evidence for any of your claims? Name some of these "best minds". Regardless of where the universe came from, the "God magic" explanation is just intellectual laziness and fear of the unknown. Energy can be turned into matter. Ghosts and spirits do not exist, and that is firmly supported by science. Anecdotes, "feelings", and pseudo-science don't mean a damn thing. Ask me for evidence, I'll provide plenty.
@kilroy055 energy can be turned into matter? explain.ghosts dont exist? so my dad was lieing to me when he said he seen a ghost back in the 1970s on top of his mothers staircase. and i guess my grandma was lieing when she seen the same ghost in 74. and i guess when she called the priest to come and get rid of it she just wanted the company and there was no spirit. do a ouija bored if you dont believe in spirits. look them up even. they are now banned. do a little homework for once
@kilroy055 i would love to see you walk around the london dungeons by yourself. you would poo yourself. 70 separate ghosts have been seen. but you would be just fine because they dont exist remember.
@british123able Lol are you really that gullible? You need to learn to evaluate information's credibility. I used to be a big fan of the shoe "A Haunting". They are good stories, nothing more. It's not like there is any actual proof or evidence they ever happened, aside from "eyewitness testimony", and human perception is extremely fallible. Do you believe in the Green Men from Mars and the Ghost of Christmas Past? Grow up. You need to stop taking bedtime stories literally (continued)
@british123able (continued) I feel kind of bad for you, because you seriously believe this is true and that's not a good way to go through life. You need to learn to separate reality from delusion and superstition if you are going to have a firm grasp of it. Your grandmother calling a priest is evidence of phones and grandmothers, not ghosts. Ouija boards are just plain stupid, you can watch people's fingers pushing it! Honestly... This isn't a middle school girls' sleepover. (continued)
@british123able (continued) You ask me to do homeowork? I used to be obsessed with the supernatural. OBE's, EMP's, alternate realities, souls, ghost sightings, alien sightings- I did hours of extensive research, read plenty of books that were firmly on the affirmative side. All of it, without exception, could be attributed to hallucination, scams, shock, and wishful interpretation. Anecdotes aren't evidence.There is not a single convincing argument for ghosts. I would rather live in reality.
@ironkatia - He really was very intelligent. He might have been a mean person for all I know. But there is no doubt that he had a tremendous intellect. I would say above average to superior. Read The Screwtape Letters.
To all the christians who comment here on youtube I ask would you please not insult our fellow man. The way to tell people about the love of God is to show it in everything we do, and that includes respectfully treating those on the other side of the arguement. God bless you all!!!!
uhm can someone tell me what the title of this documentary is or whatever this is so I can watch the rest of it?? very fascinating and Jesus IS God. God Bless everyone.
ONLY reason why people start to believe is because God LEADS them to Him. Simple as that. Like with anything, if you are THIRSTY for knowledge and wisdom you will RECEIVE it. God will fulfill your desires and wishes more than anyone ever could. After you come to Him THROUGH YESHUA. You do NOT want to go back. You become much more AWARE of good versus bad, life versus death, your heart, soul and spirituality. Because RECEIVE the HOLY SPIRIT who lLEADS you and INSPIRES you. Thank the LORD.
What is enlightenment?Feel like the real relevant information has been hidden from you?Unleash your true psychic powers.Let the spiritual revolution begin THE-HIDDEN-SPIRITdotCOM
@LameUsername17 You said there was dark energy and dark matter. What created that dark energy and dark matter? You're describing how something (dark energy, dark matter) created something. It is not possible to get something out of nothing.
@LameUsername17 What caused the Big Bang then? There are only two concepts that can explain the existence of the universe and the Big Bang theory isn't one of them. The universe is either eternal or had an eternal Creator. Science has disproven the concept of an eternal universe, therefore an eternal Creator exists.
@lonelylightfilms Antony Flew, a world famous atheist turned deist, argued that life cannot come from nothing. That is a scientific fact. He used the analogy of a marble table to represent non-living matter on earth before life. Now, it does not matter what chemical reactions occur, how many bolts of lightning strike it, or how many billions of years it takes, that marble table is never going to be aware of itself, reproduce and see with its own eyes. Atheism is a faith with no foundation.
@LameUsername17 Nope, the sinhularity was created, if you track down the spacetime-continuums expansion back in time, it gets infinitely small and dense, this means the Universe was created out of absolute nothining, not a Quantum Vacuum because it is something. And in 2003, three scientists wrote a paper on the subject of the origin of the Universe, they came to the conclusion that the Universe began to exist and must have done it. Nearly all cosmologists believe the Universe bagan to exist.
Well I'm a physicist (a theorist), so I'm well versed in cosmology and I love it too! I think this is an argument against a god of the gaps, but it just doesn't affect the other ones I had mentioned. It also has some hidden assumptions and pretty deep ones too! You should read Paul Davies critique of it (he's a physicist and atheist, or agnostic, I'm not sure) as he explains why this isn't neccessarily a good thing on Hawking's part.
The naturalist universe is not one that can be seriously maintained through any rigorous testing (via logical reasoning) and I think CS Lewis argument makes this clear, although there are some who object to this. It simply must be maintained axiomatically and it breaks down on considerations of Morality, the Self and Mathematics.
It is actually not in violation of Occam's Razor (which, after all, is just a principle and not a Law) but inferred from an agnostic position on "super"natural (whatever that really means I have no idea; if it means it doesn't have natural explanation then I don't see why everyone fusses over it, the irrationallity of root 2 has no natural explanation and is purely abstract).
I enjoy the discussion as well. However, it is not the same as the cosmological argument and although you raise some good points, you are nonetheless conflicting this defintion to be temporal and spatial. Firstly the cause of the big bang is not known, (although I wouldn't invoke that necessarily in my favour as it reeks of god of the gaps bs). It could very well be that the Universe itself is self-explanatory but then that is not what we see nor is it what can be reasoned to.
...now this Being must contain within itself the reasons for it's own existence (must be axiomatic) (IE a triangle axiomatically has three sides and this is not at all conditional) and the only being which satisfies this condition is God (note again this is not any particular god-Deism, Pantheism and Theism all satisfy this condition).
...this is also true of mathematical objects, morality, etc. We may see their effect upon the material world but they in themselves are immaterial. Further their evidence or line of reasoning is a different form then the scientific method (used to falsify unicorns and fairies). We can use a priori reasoning, dialectic or intelligible methods to argue for the existence of God (and indeed we use such methods in mathematics and philosophy as well) and this constitutes evidence.
Well, unicorns and faires are first and foremost material beings that should have satisfied the condition that they been seen or heard. Now if you redefine them to avoid this you slowly begin to strip away everything that makes a unicorn and fairy itself. God, at least the Judeo-Christian God, the Deist God and a few others (not the pagan deities) are immaterial and not subject to the same requirements that catagorize evidence for material beings...
An existential claim is metaphysics, namely what is out there. I don't believe in fairies and unicorns not bc of lack of evidence, etc. but bc of failure to satisfy necessary and sufficient conditions that is demanded if their existence were indeed true. This equivocation of God with fairies and unicorns is first and foremost a non sequitur and guilty of straw man fallacy. It also defines God in the most narrow sense, creating a caricature, in order to justify disbelief.
C.S. Lewis is my favorite author ever. I didn't know him as a person, of course, but his books are amazing and that's all we need to know. "Out of the Silent Planet" was awesome!
God created light and darkness, places and spaces, time and Heaven and Hell. God existed without a place and existed without taking up space. God was not in the Heavens. God exists without a place, and without taking up space. God is not physical nor in a place. God is not a "man in the sky" nor is God a physical thing. God does not manifest/change. Change is from a superior state to inferior or vice versa, God is Perfect & clear of it. God doesn't need anything to exist, including space/place
Yes he was, thats a valid discription of somone who likes to photo graph nake young girls? not to mention the close friendships he had with little girls.
The pornography of prepubesent girls is well document and known, its a fact!
@BelfastAtheist-I think that both of our intellects alone testify to the fact that it would be impossible for human kind to ever disprove divine agency. We just don't have the ability to think past our own preferences and self interest. Everything we do is tainted. That's why I believe the only "truth or good" comes from outside human beings and is a gift. U cannot produce truth from a fundamentally flawed being, and thats all of us...
@merneptah2 The Bible was written by men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit which guided them to ensure they wrote exactly what God wanted them to write, without error or emission. When you take into account that the Bible was written over a period of 1,500 years, across at least 3 different continents, in 3 different languages, by over 40 different authors from all walks of life, and is without error or contradiction, you can tell that this book is truly God's revelation to mankind.
"The Bible was written by men who were inspired by the Holy Spirit which guided them to ensure they wrote exactly what God wanted them to write, without error or emission"
It's amazing! Like giving Jesus 2 contradictory genologies in Luke an Matthew.
"by over 40 different authors from all walks of life, and is without error or contradiction"
There are huge amounts of errors and contradictions in the bible.
@merneptah2 The genealogies listed in Matthew and Luke appear to be contradictory at first, but you have to take into account that each author traced the genealogies of different people from the same family. Matthew traced the genealogy through David's son Solomon, while Luke traced the genealogy through David's son Nathan. This is because each author was writing to a different audience. Matthew was writing to a Jewish audience, Luke was writing to a Gentile audience.
@merneptah2 Hey man, Ive been looking into all of the reasons for christianity lately (im a christian but i want to be a educated understanding christian and actually be able to adress the big doubts people have toward christianity) a book that really helped me do that is "the reason for God" by Timothy Keller. If you would like some good smart reasoning, he's you're guy. If ya have any questions dude ask for my email, or comment here or whatever. I will always try to be respectful. God bless!
@krautinator yes, but giant space turtles is illogical. If God were turtle, why are we the one's with so much potential (we make art, record history, develop philosophy and technology etc)
@krautinator It's illogical and unreasonable to you because the only possibilty of the origin of species( particulary humans ) to YOU is only what seems physically possible. Think for a second that you know for a FACT that God exists, why would past evidence, presence, and stories seem usual. They would be everything BUT usual, Resulting in the things that you listed above.( That of which which you so disrespectfully portrayed. You probably have heard them many times from other athiests)
@OhHiKuzon That's nice, Fortunately, the real world does not operate on arbitrary conjecture (also known as bullshitting). God has not been proven as a fact, therefore those items are NOT usual, therefore they require extraordinary evidence. The burden of proof is not on me as the unbeliever, and proof has not been established. No proof so far presented for god(s) would stand up to scientific rigor or a court of law.
Dismissing the nonsensical claims as nonsensical is not disrespectful.
@krautinator Your not getting, your comment just showed me you had no idea what I said. And you say God has not been proven as a fact, well it has not been proven that there God does NOT exist.NOw this is where you say, yes evolution has proven there to be no god. Wrong, evolution is a theory, that is not proven
@krautinator Evolution is different, you cannot prove that we came from an ape-like ancestor. The Blue whale is the largest animal man has known to ever be on earth. It still lives with us here today, it is not extinct. Scientists do not know it's migrating pattern, or where the Blue Whale goes to mate. All in all, we know very little about this creature that still lives with us on earth today. BUT. . . we claim to know the origin of the human race.Back over 40 million years ago?
@OhHiKuzon So you're saying that in order to prove evolution, we must know every single thing about every single creature in existence?
Evolution is not different... it is a SCIENTIFIC THEORY, like GRAVITY, or the THEORY of RELATIVITY. Understand? It is not the layman's term "theory", it is a "theory" in the scientific sense.
Go learn more about the subject you want to pontificate upon.
Your post is such a hodge-podge of logical fallacies I can't even begin to separate them from each other.
What is your proof that macro evolution does not occur?
Remember, you'll be going up against over 100 years of verifiable, reproducible, observable scientific study on this matter. Oh, and it's still continuing, building upon itself, to the tune of 38 million new base pairs per day, each one its own test of the theory of common descent. I sure hope you know what you're doing. But you probably haven't a clue.
@krautinator Macroevolution has never been observed. Pretty amazing fact in light of most scientist accepting the theory of macroevolution as science. Of course I relegate that to the overwhelming bias in the scientific field. You write a paper leaning towards intelligent design and you are out a job. I’m tired of the bias in science. Why can’t they give scientist the freedom to follow the evidence wherever they see it leading
@ndrummer99 Macroevolution? Don't you mean Speciation? Speciation has been observed plenty of times.
Bacteria are especially observable because of their short lifespans. Where do new strains of infections come from? They just POOF! into existence?
You have a strange definition of "never been observed".
I am guessing that you mean YOU'VE never observed it and also never read a single thing about it. Pretending that something doesn't exist doesn't make it go away.
@krautinator Bacteria is an example of macroevolution? Let me define macroevolution for you: major evolutionary transition from one type of organism to another occurring at the level of the species and higher taxa.
Yes, go read more censored scientific propaganda and don't even consider actually using your own mind. There is far more to this world than you and I are aware of. The man who is truly wise is the one who recognizes how little he really knows.
The one who does not recognize how little he truly knows... go look in a mirror.
DUR all them scientists who doubled the average lifespan, provided us scientific advancements like medication that works, sanitation, running water & electricity, computers, cellphones, air travel, and space travel... THEY LIEEEE DURRR CONSPIRACY DURR PROPAGANDA HURR
Yes, go read a scientific article, written by people who actually do work.
You'd rather be lazy and believe comfortable delusions.
@krautinator Calculus came from Newton. Samuel Morse invented the telegraph. Nikola Tesla invented the alternating current power system. George Washington carver came up with 100 products made from peanuts. Many of the scientific and technological advances have actually been brought about by Christians.
Did they discover those great things because they were Christian?
Of course not.
They discovered/invented great things because of SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTATION and THEORY.
Christianity had jack-shit to do with it. Muslims invented Algebra. Does that prove Allah suddenly? The Han Chinese were incredibly cultured and literate thousands of years before most others, that must prove Shen worship, Taoism, and Ancestor worship, right???
I didn't say it did. My point is you can't pit science against Christianity. Science and God are compatible. There are highly intelligent people who believe in God.
So, you wished to commit the logical fallacy "argument from authority".
Who cares. Just because someone who is smart believes something still does not make it true. Evidence. Testing and observations. The scientific method. Understand?
The only reason we drug our sorry asses out of the dark ages was through the development of the scientific method and the proliferation of useful technology that developed as a result of this method. This is easily demonstrable from history.
@krautinator Not even the scientific method can make up for beginning with a faulty presupposition. One's presuppositions don’t allow them to judge the information in an unbiased fashion.
I'm sorry you keep changing the subject. The faulty presupposition here is that god is real and that anyone should give a shit about anything that comes out of your mouth when it is based on faith alone.
The scientific method is currently the most reliable way to explore the nature of reality and create accurate models of it.
You are using the fruits of its labor every second of your life and yet at the same time deny its validity.
@krautinator You hold to atheism by faith. You are using the fruits of God's labor every second of your life and yet at the same time deny His existence. If God were to take back his spirit and withdraw his breath, all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust.
@krautinator You tell ndrummer99 "You are using the fruits of [science's] labor every second of your life and yet at the same time deny its validity."
Ever ask yourself where science gets its raw materials? You are standing on a planet science did not invent. You are living in a body science cannot create or even fully explain. God is the creator of all, including all things scientific. All scientists do is observe, take notes, and manipulate the materials given.
Fun trivia: the actor playing C.S. Lewis is Simon Jones, who was Arthur Dent in original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio program and TV series.
Lewis's rejection of metacognition seems foolish in retrospect given advances in cognitive science. Human reasoning has so many well-documented bugs that it's difficult to make progress without acknowledging them.
@glower125 It is not Christianity that does that to people. It is their own distorted interpretations of Christianity. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people." Nuclear power is a fantastic idea until humans use it to destroy one another. Ideas and inventions are harmless unless put into the hands of humanity.
@merneptah2 None. However there is something called allegory and symbolism. This statement was about the Babylonians, who did the same thing to the Israelis. God is declaring that their sins will not go unpunished, and that they should be re-payed with the same level of crime as they committed. God is not commanding such barbaric behavior but stating what the future will be the Babylonians. Men will hate them for their wicked ways and re-pay them with the same ways.
Samuel said to Saul, “I am the one the LORD sent to anoint you king over his people Israel; so listen now to the message from the LORD. 2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.’”
@krautinator Bible means library.. I personally wouldn't take a library literally as there is a mix of genres in it. Within the Bible there is poetry, letters, practical sayings, narrative history, law, sermons etc. Some is to be taken literally while others require understanding of the overriding truth. The Bible needs to be read with discernment, which I'll be the first to say a lot of Christians lack, but that is there own shortcoming as the Bible promotes questioning (1 Thess 5:21)
Hmmm... I like all Christians discussions. Christian community should keep us all talking. As should Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters. There's a lot to talk about. I just posted a clip with a few questions of my own... Cheers!
On that note of Christian discussion, may I just ask you; if it so happens that within our lifetime - Scientists complete the research of Abiogenesis and the Big Bang and we have concrete evidence that supports are being here without any Divine agency. Will you continue to be a Christian or will you achknowledge you were wrong?
This dude was a really great person who was the greatest Christian writer in the 20th century.Who seriously cares who believes what?Do you own your own life?so therefor you got the ability to choose,right?than choose for yourself...no one can decide for you.
"If the universe is so bad...how on earth did human beings ever come to attribute it to the activity of a wise and good Creator?"-C.S Lewis
We all will see who's right one day..how about you search for yourself?isn't that *logical*?
Atheism is a Religion, because you believe, you have faith there is no God without proof. When you die, it is only then you see the truth.
Go back to the definition of faith. Faith is believing in something without proof. Religion is a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith. Atheism is defined as the doctrine or belief that there is no God. Therefore Atheism is a religion.
@FreedomInAmerica Youre talking about gnostic, or positive atheism and using that to represent the entire group of atheists including agnostics which is completely wrong. also, the definition of religion is dependent on belief in a deity, not the concept of faith. otherwise, everyone would convert to a new religion when believing their girlfriend/boyfriend would come home that night and not cheat on them since that requires proof. try again, but next time, know what youre talking about.
Actually Faith literally derives from "Evidence for the unseen". Although I think atheist like to claim that it's not a religion; it is. They believe that there is no God or as they like to put it "we reject belief in god" and I ask how is that any more un-faith based then "we accept belief in god". Lack of evidence does not mean evidence of lacking; Epistimology does not dictate Metaphysics.
When you look at nature you either think that there is a great creator who created it and you and you must serve him, or that it all just happened and for no reason. But God came to earth and died on the cross (historical fact) for our sins so that we could know him personally. There are writings of prophecy in the Bible which were written long before the thing they prophesied came about.There are many archeological artifacts and logical facts that prove that the Bible is historically true.
....Historical evidence and proofs are what we must use to judge those events which we can not reproduce. We can not have Napoleon come back and fight again his great battles under the same conditions. We must therefore rely on accurate historical documentation of these events for proof.
If I might humbly join your discussion, I would like to reply to @xpo50 & the statement, "science if it were a religion would be the largest of all since it actually has proof that is testable and observable." The problem here is what you have stated science only gives us proof of what is observable & repeatable. There is no science that allows us to prove anything that would transcend our universe, ie God. Books in that since are all we have to go on to prove the past.
The black preacher says that either Christ was telling the truth, or lying and/or being loony. When Harry Potter stated that he was a wizard was he a loon or a lair or telling the truth? Or maybe it doesn't matter because Christ, like Harry Potter, never existed (at all, or as a person doing and saying the things that the gospels said he said, Fiction is not bound by reality, anyone who doesn't figure this into an argument is a loon)
@MacabreManifesto The question of Christ's life and crucifixion is certainly a historical reality. The question of his divinity is the question to dispute.
C.S. Lewis and Harry Potter movies are being used to hunt down your souls for the evil religion of Satan (the ILLUMINATI). Many of you really do not know much about the spirit world. It makes you easy targets for the evil ones. Including Lady Gaga's. This is no game people, it is deadly. Has a curse been put upon you yet from listening and enjoying the music of a siren?..... Think about it.
@TheMetalpocalypse DID YOU REALLY SAID HELL? I TOUGH I HEARD HELL COMING FROM YOUR MOUTH. WELL RATHER TRY TO GO TO HEAVEN THEN ET MYSELF FALL TO HELL.
@knicklas48 for one if the its the god of the bible youre talking about, the bible is mostly plagurized and rewritten stories from other cultures, from creation to the gospels. its littered with astrology and historical innacuracies. and makes claims that were long ago debunked by science. and yes we evolved.
@knicklas48 what i yold you is the fact that the ideas of god and the stories that come with it are man made ideas passed down from generations and different culture. god or gods are ideas used to explain what humans dont know. for instance an acient culture would see a volcano erupting and wonderr why. the only explaination they could come up with is that they angered god(s), and they would pray or sacrifice to it. but in this day and age we have science to figure out what we dont know.
@pistolpete667 the more that science discovers, which is alot, the notion to put god behind it becomes obsolete. so in learning or questioning what we dont know about the universe, after death ,etc it becomes unnecessary for god to be the reason behind it. what happen before the big bang? we dont know yet, but that doesnt mean it was god. you cant put god behind the unknown, it will just be "god until further notice". basically the reasons behind gods existence get smaller in scientific advncmnt
@pistolpete667 .. The question of God is not scientific but philosophical.. Science is a study of the How questions while Theology deals with the Why.. To believe the universe had a creator does not require faith in the same way it does not require faith to deduce that a building had a builder, a computer a programmer etc. It does require Faith to believe in Christ though.. Like Lewis I choose Christ.
By the way 51% of scientists believe in some form of God (2009 Pew)
@pistolpete667 My friend, I'm not alleging anything- (2009 Pew Study). In any case, I can say that as a former agnostic and borderline atheist, going to deism was a product objective contemplation and reasoning. Going from deism to Christianity was were the "Faith" came in. For me, Faith in Christianity was a a product of comparative theism and deductive reasoning. I'm very confident that once someone has recognized the Universe as having a creator- Christianity offers the strongest arguments.
@OoohReally1 why limit your philosiphy and knowlege only to christian dogma? theres a world of knowlege out there and you want to believe in one story with constant contradictions and innacuracies. the "creator" of this vast universe would not be concerned with one tiny rock and two people eating a fruit. the idea of that is just rediculous, would you not agree?
@pistolpete667 Catholicism has never taught a literal interpretation of Genesis even Mainline Protestants agree with that. There is some good in all religions, though incomplete. Faith in Christ is a Grace from God, without such Grace it is not possible to believe in Christianity- that is not say that one can't lose the Faith OR one that has not yet received it, Obtain It assuming they were open to the possibility of receiving.
@pistolpete667 its not a matter of ignorance towards other dogmas but of finding the one you find most convincing. It is not as if when someone becomes or is a Christian they hide in their home and decide to never learn anything else, and further as someone has pointed out very few Christian sects teach a literal understanding of the Bible, and even in the literal sense you obviously have no idea what those stories are actually about.
@xpo50 by that logic science if it were a religion would be the largest of all since it actually has proof that is testable and observable.... religions just have dusty old books and prophets who died and came back to life which actually happens quite often where people have been dead for hours and have come back to life so does that mean we should worship them?
@ihavevideoatoo I don't understand how this response has anything to do with my statement. Furthermore, there is no actual proof that empirical evidence connects in the way we think it does. If you read the work of David Hume, the founder of radical empiricism, he states that all information is simply a snippet, and that our mind artificially connects things which may or may not be connected because we are hardwired to think so.
2. To worship science is to worship the created rather than the creator.
3.True religion has books filled wisdom, humor, miracles, history, science, and the gospel message, which if taken to heart will save your soul and change your life in unimaginable ways
4. And lets just ignore men who have been dead for days, who are beginning to rot coming back to life (hint, hint) Lazarus.
2.) You don't worship science which is why i said IF it were a religion
3.) True religion also has storys of god wiping out humanity, asking people to kill their children for him and making trying to make anyone of any other religion convert to theirs

@NoslemProductions Lol I love how you say that i have no moral objective so I will stone people which i am 100% against. I am against the death penalty as well. I am against abortion. Yet its funny how most people who do all those things i just listed have some belief system. I get my morals from my reasoning. Killing and fighting doesnt solve anything so its pointless
God wiped out humanity with a flood?
God asked Abraham to kill Isaac?
Please read the bible more than what your priest gives you
Reading the bible without interpretation is going to get you into trouble! Christianity is not just the bible; the bible is a major part (proper understanding of the bible) but Christianity also has the works of St. Irenaeus, St. Augustine, St. Aquinas, St. Bonaventure, Oregin, and many of the great philosophers and theologians of the past and present.
@xpo50 a i guarantee that you chose christianity not because it made the most sense but because either you were raised christian by your parents or its just the norm of the place you grew up
@pistolpete667 Your argument excludes the possibility of Christian converts in regions where Christianity is not the norm. And you assume that one cannot look at their beliefs objectively later in life to be able to analyze the lifestyle you choose to live. To only be a Christian because you were raised that way misses the point of Christianity completely because you did not make a conscious choice to follow that path.
I will forgo the arguments and name calling and merely say....thank you for this video.

@british123able that statement is void of any factual information that actually proves god exists. If every person on this planet believed in god, that does not provide sufficient evidence to prove god.

@british123able Apparently you are unaware of what an "Appeal to Authority" logical fallacy is.
While appeal to authority is acceptable when the authority is a legitimate expert on the subject, "the best minds that ever lived" do not constitute an expert on the subject of God, so therefore, it is fallacious.
gohoggyourself 3 months ago
@british123able Actually, most of the US Founding Fathers wer Deist or Agnostic. Einstein was a pan-theist, basically an Atheist. An overwhelming majority of the National Academy of Sciences is Atheist. Galileo Galilee went against the teachings of the church in favor of science. The best minds are the ones that don't give in to superstition and dogma, and instead seek the true answers to the universe instead of taking the lazy way out and attributing everything to "God magic"

@british123able (continued) I feel kind of bad for you, because you seriously believe this is true and that's not a good way to go through life.

@LameUsername17 You said there was dark energy and dark matter. What created that dark energy and dark matter? You're describing how something (dark energy, dark matter) created something. It is not possible to get something out of nothing.
MakingSandwich1 7 months ago

Nearly all cosmologists believe the Universe bagan to exist.
thetraceur123 8 months ago
@LameUsername17
Jim1905 9 months ago
@LameUsername17
Jim1905 9 months ago
@LameUsername17
Jim1905 9 months ago
@LameUsername17
Jim1905 9 months ago
@LameUsername17
...now this Being must contain within itself the reasons for it's own existence (must be axiomatic) (IE a triangle axiomatically has three sides and this is not at all conditional) and the only being which satisfies this condition is God (note again this is not any particular god-Deism, Pantheism and Theism all satisfy this condition).
Jim1905 9 months ago
@LameUsername17
Alright here's an argument that's simple and while does not admit to any particular God is interesting nonetheless:
1) Being (that is you, me, a table, air, etc.) is either dependent or self-existing (it's existence is caused or it's existence is self-explanatory)
2) Not all being can be dependent (or else what would they depend on?)
3) Therefore there must exist at least one being which is self-existing
...
Jim1905 9 months ago
@LameUsername17
...this is also true of mathematical objects, morality, etc.
Jim1905 9 months ago
@LameUsername17

@LameUsername17

"by over 40 different authors from all walks of life, and is without error or contradiction"
There are huge amounts of errors and contradictions in the bible.
merneptah2 7 months ago
@merneptah2 The genealogies listed in Matthew and Luke appear to be contradictory at first, but you have to take into account that each author traced the genealogies of different people from the same family. Matthew traced the genealogy through David's son Solomon, while Luke traced the genealogy through David's son Nathan. This is because each author was writing to a different audience. Matthew was writing to a Jewish audience, Luke was writing to a Gentile audience.

OhHiKuzon 1 month ago
@OhHiKuzon That's nice, Fortunately, the real world does not operate on arbitrary conjecture (also known as bullshitting). God has not been proven as a fact, therefore those items are NOT usual, therefore they require extraordinary evidence. The burden of proof is not on me as the unbeliever, and proof has not been established. No proof so far presented for god(s) would stand up to scientific rigor or a court of law.
Dismissing the nonsensical claims as nonsensical is not disrespectful.

But you probably haven't a clue.
krautinator 3 weeks ago
@krautinator Macroevolution has never been observed. Pretty amazing fact in light of most scientist accepting the theory of macroevolution as science. Of course I relegate that to the overwhelming bias in the scientific field. You write a paper leaning towards intelligent design and you are out a job. I’m tired of the bias in science. Why can’t they give scientist the freedom to follow the evidence wherever they see it leading

Wrong.
Back to the drawing board.
krautinator 3 weeks ago

ndrummer99 3 weeks ago
@ndrummer99
This is easily demonstrable from history.
krautinator 3 weeks ago
@krautinator Not even the scientific method can make up for beginning with a faulty presupposition. One's presuppositions don’t allow them to judge the information in an unbiased fashion.
ndrummer99 3 weeks ago
@ndrummer99

@tamething1
Yeah, that's all scientists ever do, is work their ass off and deliver results.
Oh, wait...
Possibly the most solipsistic and dumbest non-argument I've heard yet.
So we can't explain it, so how the hell do you know ANYTHING about it?
Right? It would be safe to assume you don't know WTF you're talking about.
You are not endowed with any special knowledge or "revelation from god".
So that means, you don't know any facts about the supernatural, and thus can't prove jack shit.

What context is killing babies ok in?
merneptah2 7 months ago
@merneptah2 None. However there is something called allegory and symbolism. This statement was about the Babylonians, who did the same thing to the Israelis. God is declaring that their sins will not go unpunished, and that they should be re-payed with the same level of crime as they committed. God is not commanding such barbaric behavior but stating what the future will be the Babylonians. Men will hate them for their wicked ways and re-pay them with the same ways.

@AnswerManSam So interpreting the bible literally is a bad idea?
krautinator 3 months ago
@krautinator Bible means library.. I personally wouldn't take a library literally as there is a mix of genres in it. Within the Bible there is poetry, letters, practical sayings, narrative history, law, sermons etc. Some is to be taken literally while others require understanding of the overriding truth. The Bible needs to be read with discernment, which I'll be the first to say a lot of Christians lack, but that is there own shortcoming as the Bible promotes questioning (1 Thess 5:21)

@FreedomInAmerica Youre talking about gnostic, or positive atheism and using that to represent the entire group of atheists including agnostics which is completely wrong. also, the definition of religion is dependent on belief in a deity, not the concept of faith. otherwise, everyone would convert to a new religion when believing their girlfriend/boyfriend would come home that night and not cheat on them since that requires proof. try again, but next time, know what youre talking about.
wikikikikiwill 1 year ago
@FreedomInAmerica

DrEinstein100 1 year ago
....Historical evidence and proofs are what we must use to judge those events which we can not reproduce.

@pistolpete667 You assert that God is not real? Okay, prove it. The burden of proof is on you to prove your assertion, bubba.
knicklas48 1 year ago
@knicklas48 for one if the its the god of the bible youre talking about, the bible is mostly plagurized and rewritten stories from other cultures, from creation to the gospels. its littered with astrology and historical innacuracies. and makes claims that were long ago debunked by science. and yes we evolved.
pistolpete667 1 year ago
@pistolpete667 Lack of evidence to disprove the existance of God duly noted. You really don't know know the meaning of 'evidence', do you?
knicklas48 1 year ago
@knicklas48 what i yold you is the fact that the ideas of god and the stories that come with it are man made ideas passed down from generations and different culture. god or gods are ideas used to explain what humans dont know. for instance an acient culture would see a volcano erupting and wonderr why. the only explaination they could come up with is that they angered god(s), and they would pray or sacrifice to it. but in this day and age we have science to figure out what we dont know.
pistolpete667 1 year ago
@pistolpete667 the more that science discovers, which is alot, the notion to put god behind it becomes obsolete. so in learning or questioning what we dont know about the universe, after death ,etc it becomes unnecessary for god to be the reason behind it. what happen before the big bang? we dont know yet, but that doesnt mean it was god. you cant put god behind the unknown, it will just be "god until further notice". basically the reasons behind gods existence get smaller in scientific advncmnt
pistolpete667 1 year ago
@pistolpete667 .. The question of God is not scientific but philosophical.. Science is a study of the How questions while Theology deals with the Why.. To believe the universe had a creator does not require faith in the same way it does not require faith to deduce that a building had a builder, a computer a programmer etc. It does require Faith to believe in Christ though.. Like Lewis I choose Christ.
By the way 51% of scientists believe in some form of God (2009 Pew)
OoohReally1 1 year ago
@OoohReally1 the alleged 51% can never prove this supposed belief
pistolpete667 1 year ago
@pistolpete667 My friend, I'm not alleging anything- (2009 Pew Study). In any case, I can say that as a former agnostic and borderline atheist, going to deism was a product objective contemplation and reasoning. Going from deism to Christianity was were the "Faith" came in. For me, Faith in Christianity was a a product of comparative theism and deductive reasoning. I'm very confident that once someone has recognized the Universe as having a creator- Christianity offers the strongest arguments.
OoohReally1 1 year ago
@OoohReally1 why limit your philosiphy and knowlege only to christian dogma? theres a world of knowlege out there and you want to believe in one story with constant contradictions and innacuracies. the "creator" of this vast universe would not be concerned with one tiny rock and two people eating a fruit. the idea of that is just rediculous, would you not agree?
pistolpete667 1 year ago
@pistolpete667 Catholicism has never taught a literal interpretation of Genesis even Mainline Protestants agree with that. There is some good in all religions, though incomplete. Faith in Christ is a Grace from God, without such Grace it is not possible to believe in Christianity- that is not say that one can't lose the Faith OR one that has not yet received it, Obtain It assuming they were open to the possibility of receiving.
OoohReally1 1 year ago
@pistolpete667 its not a matter of ignorance towards other dogmas but of finding the one you find most convincing. It is not as if when someone becomes or is a Christian they hide in their home and decide to never learn anything else, and further as someone has pointed out very few Christian sects teach a literal understanding of the Bible, and even in the literal sense you obviously have no idea what those stories are actually about.
xpo50 1 year ago
@xpo50 by that logic science if it were a religion would be the largest of all since it actually has proof that is testable and observable.... religions just have dusty old books and prophets who died and came back to life which actually happens quite often where people have been dead for hours and have come back to life so does that mean we should worship them?
ihavevideoatoo 1 year ago
@ihavevideoatoo I don't understand how this response has anything to do with my statement. Furthermore, there is no actual proof that empirical evidence connects in the way we think it does. If you read the work of David Hume, the founder of radical empiricism, he states that all information is simply a snippet, and that our mind artificially connects things which may or may not be connected because we are hardwired to think so.
xpo50 1 year ago
@ihavevideoatoo Speaking for Christianity
1. We do not worship prophets
DrEinstein100 1 year ago
@DrEinstein100
1.) right you worship a guy dead on a cross
2.) You don't worship science which is why i said IF it were a religion
3.) True religion also has storys of god wiping out humanity, asking people to kill their children for him and making trying to make anyone of any other religion convert to theirs
4.) Lets just ignore men who beat and treat women like animals because of religion(wink wink) Stoneings
ihavevideoatoo 1 year ago
@ihavevideoatoo
1.) "right you worship a guy dead on a cross"
No we don't, he was on the cross for only a few hours.
2.) science is not a religion, but you still worship it, your own material vanity.
3.) sure. point?
4.) since you are an athiest, no objective moral truth exist. so you should be just fine with stonings. As a Christian, I am against them however. Jesus even protested one.
If you see fit to reply to anything I said, it will be in vain. I do not waste my time with idiots.

@xpo50 a i guarantee that you chose christianity not because it made the most sense but because either you were raised christian by your parents or its just the norm of the place you grew up
pistolpete667 1 year ago
@pistolpete667 Your argument excludes the possibility of Christian converts in regions where Christianity is not the norm. And you assume that one cannot look at their beliefs objectively later in life to be able to analyze the lifestyle you choose to live. To only be a Christian because you were raised that way misses the point of Christianity completely because you did not make a conscious choice to follow that path.
