Some people need a little help here. Google search "egg", and then on a new tab Google search "2009 WRX". Compare them side by side, and then realize that one is a car and one is an egg, and then realize they look nothing like each other. If you want a car that looks like an egg the Google search "Audi TT" and "VW Beetle."
@maranelloo18 get the cobb accessport engine management, turbo back exhaust with up-pipe and down pipe and do some work to the suspension+ new tires and you should have similar performance. Im not a fan of the 08s but its stupid to sell it for an 09. an 08 is still a good platform for modding
Hey but it proves that unlike other brands Subaru does listen to its fan and by listening they brought for the 09 a true WRX. Thanks Subaru, keep it up!
subaru's dont look "grown up". that's not what they were going for.. but they are beasts. audi's are more luxurious. i wouldnt mind having a 2000-2002 s4 (:
I'm so glad I got an end of the year 2007 wagon, and not a new 2008 hatchback. It seems like Subaru keeps lowering the quality of the cars to maintain the 25K price tag. Pretty soon they'll be making Fords.
I totally agree with you. I love and will always love the 2006 wrx sti model, it says Rally car all over it! what happened was, the trend for 5 doors (I call them eggs on wheels) came along. Everytime I see a new WRX or Sti on the road from the back, I initially think its a van, then when I get closer I see the Wrx or Sti letters. The still fast, but I do believe the rally car that once was the WRX has lost a bit of its image. the WRX is still offered on a 4 door option.
Now, performance wise, the Sti and Wrx have been revised because of really REALLY poor reviews in the previous years after the beautiful 2006. Some people didnt like the huge wing, I believe it gave the car an image identity. You knew it was a STI coming down the road by just looking at the wing. Now dont get me wrong, I love subaru, but right now I am considering a mitsubishi evo for rally cars. If I was rich I would be getting an Audi with quattro, RS5 models from 2006. Will always love Wrx's.
I'm sorry dude, but the car's beautiful. It doesn't look spunky... it's refined, it's grown up. Subaru can't sell cars at an out the door cost of $30,000 to teenagers. I've always wanted one of these, but there's no way I could pull up to my office in something with a giant wing, it just woudn't look good... So Subaru changed their target market demographic, it still has a spoiler and it's still fast as shit. But it's smooth and it looks gorgeous, Everyone I see can't take their eyes off it.
You are entitled to your opinion. Now about being worried on what you could pull up to your office, that sounds like lack of confidence and personality. No car can fix that, but yourself. A 40 year old man trying to be a bad ass with a car that looks like a van from the back is not "cool". Give him an Audi or a BMW and maybe we can start talking again. I personally believe the car looks like an egg. Last time I checked eggs were fried or boiled, not refined and grown up.
I believe the change was too extreme. You have this rally and sedan look tradition. And all of the sudden to change to literally to an egg. Lan evo is gaining ground because of it. You are absolutely right about people not taking their eyes off it, but you forgot, in the end they all say "WTF was that? a van? an egg?". To be refined they could stayed with a sedan version and work on the outside like the Audi A5 and the inside like a BMW. No need to look like a van so old farts can feel ok.
I'm 24, not 40. And yeah, that sounds great; personality and confidence, I have that. But driving around in a car that makes me look like i'm 18, sure that will show some personality; but it will make me look like a punk. And if you want to move up quickly, you gotta conform sometimes, you gotta play the game.
go build an a3, build it with the same horsepower, the same all-wheel drive and the same options. all it has on the wrx is leather (which isn't that great imo, as long as it's decent cloth) and it costs 11,000 more. The WRX is the only way to get into a sport sedan for under 30k. And the reliability and dealerships for vw and audi are terrible. I'm glad they changed the styling; allowed me to get one.
The quattro drive is far superior than subaru. In an Audi you pay for exactly what you were asking for earlier. A car that makes you look like you are on top. Its like driving up a lexus instead of a toyota in the parking lot. Yes, it does cost more. But you pay for that prestige u were asking for earlier. The quality of an Audi is great, I dont know where u are getting ur facts. VW is the german toyota, I owned one and it has never let me down. If you like the egg buy it. I like the wrx 4 door.

What an ugly looking heap of shit. They tried to copy the Golf GTI and failed miserably. I don't care how fast that jap crap goes, it won't be in my garage!
thats hilarious to hear, your the first person who has compared it to a golf gti?? haha, just because they are both hatches. You must know lots about cars.
u can compare them totally!! both are priced 30$K, both are sport and hatchback and have turbochargers with similar size engine, only difference is in their differential but still it won't separate them to different classes!!

Rule #1: Do not buy the first year of a new model
I feel sorry for the enthusiasts (suckers) who bought the 2008 model, and thanks to our collapsing economy you can now pick up the 2009 model for less than invoice without even really haggling.
Ok personally I think all these little rice rockets look like sheeet. However overall, I see a more versatile "ricer" in the 09 wrx with all the changes, AWD, and for the price it is by far the way to go. Add an intake and exhaust and your up near 300HP for 10-15k cheaper than the STI. And personally the hatchback is pretty sick. Who cares what people think, just pull up next to some rich tools in their 100k + cars and smoke em in your 25k hatchback ;) The power overrides its look any day !!
What's a single thing "rice" about the Impreza WRX? If this looks "ricer" what do you think of a Mini S complete with a non-functional hoodscoop and all sorts of useless ricey bits? Let me get this straight, functional hoodscoops and spoilers = rice? I'll keep that in mind next time I see a Mustang GT on the road. Oh wait, more fake hoodscoops... Rice!
It is very fast and fun. It is an EXCELLENT car for the money. Sub 5 second 0-60. Saftey, decent handling and a nice interior. I have the 4 door which I think looks good!
That thing looks TERRIBLE! 2001-2003 look best... 2004 is alright, but after that these things are going downhill as far as aesthetics go... I don't mind, I'm getting what I want for much cheaper after seven years of depreciation...
as a car oficianado, i agree, these japanese cars look japanese again and not so great. the one you like I do. the forester looks ok in all generations. the newest one is the best i think. the outback always seemed pretty good. but this car always looks too boy racer , too niche target market and honestly they like ugly cars because they stand out
hmmm i hope they come standard wit the sports grille, cuz that chrome line in the front look bad...(i kno a dealership in Austin, Texas is selling 09 WRX's with standard sports grille.... hopefully they do that everywhere)
I just dont get it! Why buy the WRX and not the STI...buying the WRX you will not have the top of the range model, you will know that there is still something better (the STI) that you could have had if you had spent a bit more money. I dont get it! Someone please enlighten me!
maybe some can't afford that extra bit more money....you can also top that with a probably higher car insurance......more expensive maintenance......the financing (if not cashed)...
it all comes down to money i guess, if it weren't for money, then people would get Ferrari's.
you're correct. it's all down to money. I plan on buying an '09 WRX for two reasons: first is that the average insurance for an STi is around $5k with a clean driving record, and I sure as hell don't have a clean record. the other reason is that I'm a person that likes to tinker with my cars, and I have fun taking a lower-end model and making it into a sleeper and I'd still probably be saving some over the extra $10k for an STi
yup, about $400/month for car insurance sounds about right. you know, it's really like a dream-destroyer. like, it's almost not worth it (i know it's worth it if the money is easy, because STi's are indeed great) to pay that much for the car insurance.
The fact that the STI costs 10k more than the wrx? Or the fact that (read the most recent issue of car and driver) the wrx is right there w/ the sti in a straight line (actually a hair quicker)
"the wrx is right there w/ the sti in a straight line (actually a hair quicker)"
-that's a big factor too lol. BUT there's that something in the back of our heads when we think of the name "STi" though...sometimes, in this materialistic world (in this example, cars), it's not always about performance and speed. the car name/model and the price of it is also quite a big factor lol.
In a straight line... On a track, the revised suspension, Si Drive, adjustable center diff, and peakier turbo will make the STi shine in ways the WRX can't.
Nothing matters. Even if it got better performance, handling or braking, YOU KNOW if you got it soon enought you'll UPGRADE it along the way. Just get a impreza the year you like and Mod that thing up.
This is retarded. Drive push the 09 and it behaves nearly identically to the 08. That bit about it being "unrecognizable" compared to the 08 is also totally stupid given that they look nearly identical. Aside from the spoiler, good luck getting anyone not looking for the differences to notice that your car is one year or another. The 09 is slightly better than the 08, that's it. I've had both, and slanted reviews like this GREATLY exaggerate the differences.
You've had both? Makes a lot of sense considering your claim that there's so little difference between the two - why'd you bother with the 09 in the first place? If you pushed both you'd notice some major differences, in both speed and handling. Sounds more like you haven't even driven either...
Sounds more like your a total retard. Yes, I had an 08, I didn't "upgrade" to the 09, rather I sold the 08 because it had problems Subaru wouldn't fix, and would have cost more to have properly diagnosed and fixed than the loss I took on the 08, which wasn't a huge amount. And yes, the difference between the 08 and 09 model is TOTALLY overblown and greatly exaggerated in terms of the behind the wheel experience. In summary, you're an idiot.
I liked what Subaru did with the 09 WRX: adding more power, stiffer suspension, better handling but omg,I think the hatchback versions look ugly. Subaru already has a reputation for looking ugly when compared to its competitors. ive seen at least about 20 other nicer concept drawings for the 09 WRX that had nicer looks. idk why they opted for the hatchback look
not to disrespect your opinion on the hatchback looking silly, but I don't think true Subaru enthusiasts buy it for looks. any STi since they first started making them looks damn silly. I'd never buy one because I think it's attractive, but because of its performance. I'd rather drive a fast, ugly car than a slow, good-looking car. I'm getting a WRX and opting for the hatchback just because I want the extra storage space for my skis and other things like that, and I like the open feel inside.
Dude, add some after market parts to fix what you don't like. This new wrx is the same car with a better turbo and some stiffer suspension. No need for buyer's remorse when there are TONS of parts ready to be swapped out!
First of all, there is no need to replace any of the interior. Secondly, upgrading the exhaust and a retune will put you at the same level as the new 09 wrx. Lastly, I think i would know the price of the items above considering I upgraded them all in my own 04 WRX.
Didn't you know a new model was coming out? I'm sorry for your purchase, but the '08 WRX is a very good car as well, I drove an '06 WRX a few times and I loved it.
I've seen 4 door WRX around never really caught my eye. Untill I saw one today got really up close and personal freaken love it. pretty quick very nice interior now it's just 5 door or 4 door 09 WRX. Drive one and it will change for me it did.
I won't buy a car with an automatic transmission, OR DSG, Dual clutch, what ever you want to call it. Manual only. Why do car manufactures do this? Talk about cutting out the car enthusiast part of the market.
what are u talking about??? the 09 wrx with 265 hp only comes in manual, the old turbo 224hp is called the gt now and comes in auto. i think they gave us car enthuisiasts a run for our money...with a little work this car will be faster then the sti wagon
well they permantly added the aero and body kit package for it(premium package), the turbo, and said it should still run 25k...it was 28k for the 08 wrx with the premium package
They make a sedan version of the WRX. The STI is the only one that has hatch back only. This video kind of sucks because they should show both versions. The sedan is much nicer looking and very refined.
i own this car this week and i own it on the sedan version and all i can say its that this thing blooww the fucking road its a racing machine it gained 45 more horsepower it has the sti spec turbo on it, and also intercooled too.
i got the sedan because the hatchback really sucks the sedan looks like the old one but with a lot more details it looks a lot more sports car.
i went to the subaru and the regular price is about 27 grand. because of its demand on this new version, so i paid for the tsi the registration and the whole entire thing to get it on the road the same day about 28500
owner of a perfect condition 99 impreza outback sport. i love the power, and the major improvement, but i am still shaky about the front look. i am sure it will be great on the road.

Better performance but still darn ugly. I would buy the shark-looking Lancer Ralliart. Thats got the Dual clutch gearbox too so why buy this? 20 more HP? Not enough to get over that ugly hatchback.
The difference is that Ralliart is a really heavy car, much more slow than 2008 WRX or 2008 Mazda 3 MPS (Mazdaspeed). I prefer a manual gear box but 25 more HP and less weight.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally think the new Lancers look anemic, large face, stubby rear end, and the slim waistline of an anorexic.
I way dig the hatch styling the Subaru. When I see a big wing on a subaru/mitsubishi, the car enthusiast in me respects it, but the realist in me thinks how I wouldn't want to drive it anywhere really. Sure it looks good in context: track, racing, etc. But try going to work every day, or going to school, and having a big wing on a sedan. think
The WRX will no longer be synonymous with an automatic transmission!!! "Automatic WRX's" are now called the "GT"!!! And the new WRX seems VERY promising!!! I'm extremely happy the WRX is no longer going to have an automatic transmission.....
so? 0 to 60 time? Breaking from 60? lateral g? understeer and body-roll fixed?
this was a waste of time video (yes, i realize the irony of youtube, you know what i meant). of course it would be better than the 2008 model, the question is how much better?
if you have an 08, swap the turbo for the vf52! swap it now!

I just dont get it! Why buy the WRX and not the STI...buying the WRX you will not have the top of the range model, you will know that there is still something better (the STI) that you could have had if you had spent a bit more money. I dont get it! Someone please enlighten me!
Hellbrawler 3 years ago
maybe some can't afford that extra bit more money....you can also top that with a probably higher car insurance......more expensive maintenance......the financing (if not cashed)...
it all comes down to money i guess, if it weren't for money, then people would get Ferrari's.
AntiFanboyGamer 3 years ago
you're correct. it's all down to money.
DavidIsACult 3 years ago
yup, about $400/month for car insurance sounds about right. you know, it's really like a dream-destroyer. like, it's almost not worth it (i know it's worth it if the money is easy, because STi's are indeed great) to pay that much for the car insurance.
AntiFanboyGamer 3 years ago
The fact that the STI costs 10k more than the wrx? Or the fact that (read the most recent issue of car and driver) the wrx is right there w/ the sti in a straight line (actually a hair quicker)
iuchris 3 years ago
"the wrx is right there w/ the sti in a straight line (actually a hair quicker)"
-that's a big factor too lol. BUT there's that something in the back of our heads when we think of the name "STi" though...sometimes, in this materialistic world (in this example, cars), it's not always about performance and speed. the car name/model and the price of it is also quite a big factor lol.
AntiFanboyGamer 3 years ago
In a straight line... On a track, the revised suspension, Si Drive, adjustable center diff, and peakier turbo will make the STi shine in ways the WRX can't.
On the street though, the WRX is a true champ.
striketalonx 3 years ago
its not only a bit extra ay..its like
20k...the wrx is 40k...but yer i see where you are coming from ...
Subarujoe 3 years ago
try 30k
skinnbone260 3 years ago
base on the new STi is around $36k. Add taxes and BBS wheels: $39.
Hell of a lot closer to 40 than 30

Hellbrawler, what kind of car do you drive, and why didn't you spend the extra $10,000 to get something nicer, hmmmmm?
mugwomp3000 3 years ago
@mugwomp3000 i drive a bmw e46 m3, and i spent more than 10,000 extra to modify it, it is now turbo, 520rwhp
Hellbrawler 5 months ago
Nothing matters. Even if it got better performance, handling or braking, YOU KNOW if you got it soon enought you'll UPGRADE it along the way. Just get a impreza the year you like and Mod that thing up.

This is retarded. Drive push the 09 and it behaves nearly identically to the 08. That bit about it being "unrecognizable" compared to the 08 is also totally stupid given that they look nearly identical. Aside from the spoiler, good luck getting anyone not looking for the differences to notice that your car is one year or another. The 09 is slightly better than the 08, that's it. I've had both, and slanted reviews like this GREATLY exaggerate the differences.
chanke42 3 years ago
You've had both? Makes a lot of sense considering your claim that there's so little difference between the two - why'd you bother with the 09 in the first place? If you pushed both you'd notice some major differences, in both speed and handling. Sounds more like you haven't even driven either...
mugwomp3000 3 years ago
Sounds more like your a total retard. Yes, I had an 08, I didn't "upgrade" to the 09, rather I sold the 08 because it had problems Subaru wouldn't fix, and would have cost more to have properly diagnosed and fixed than the loss I took on the 08, which wasn't a huge amount. And yes, the difference between the 08 and 09 model is TOTALLY overblown and greatly exaggerated in terms of the behind the wheel experience. In summary, you're an idiot.
chanke42 3 years ago
I liked what Subaru did with the 09 WRX: adding more power, stiffer suspension, better handling but omg,I think the hatchback versions look ugly. Subaru already has a reputation for looking ugly when compared to its competitors. ive seen at least about 20 other nicer concept drawings for the 09 WRX that had nicer looks. idk why they opted for the hatchback look
SF18BRAV0 3 years ago
not to disrespect your opinion on the hatchback looking silly, but I don't think true Subaru enthusiasts buy it for looks. any STi since they first started making them looks damn silly. I'd never buy one because I think it's attractive, but because of its performance. I'd rather drive a fast, ugly car than a slow, good-looking car. I'm getting a WRX and opting for the hatchback just because I want the extra storage space for my skis and other things like that, and I like the open feel inside.

Thats nice that Subaru finnaly did something,
But i prefer my 05 STi for now anyways XD

Dude, add some after market parts to fix what you don't like. This new wrx is the same car with a better turbo and some stiffer suspension. No need for buyer's remorse when there are TONS of parts ready to be swapped out!

New seats and interior trim, wheels, turbocharger, exhaust, springs, thicker swaybars among other upgrades aren't as cheap as you think...
mugwomp3000 3 years ago
First of all, there is no need to replace any of the interior. Secondly, upgrading the exhaust and a retune will put you at the same level as the new 09 wrx. Lastly, I think i would know the price of the items above considering I upgraded them all in my own 04 WRX.
bluemystic7501 3 years ago
Didn't you know a new model was coming out? I'm sorry for your purchase, but the '08 WRX is a very good car as well, I drove an '06 WRX a few times and I loved it.
jgizzy 3 years ago
I've seen 4 door WRX around never really caught my eye. Untill I saw one today got really up close and personal freaken love it. pretty quick very nice interior now it's just 5 door or 4 door 09 WRX. Drive one and it will change for me it did.

I won't buy a car with an automatic transmission, OR DSG, Dual clutch, what ever you want to call it. Manual only. Why do car manufactures do this? Talk about cutting out the car enthusiast part of the market.
XholdstillX 3 years ago
what are u talking about??? the 09 wrx with 265 hp only comes in manual, the old turbo 224hp is called the gt now and comes in auto. i think they gave us car enthuisiasts a run for our money...with a little work this car will be faster then the sti wagon
SpdDemon69 3 years ago
is the 09 model more expensive than the 08. just because of the improvements, bigger turbo etc???
ashGSXR 3 years ago
well they permantly added the aero and body kit package for it(premium package), the turbo, and said it should still run 25k...it was 28k for the 08 wrx with the premium package
SpdDemon69 3 years ago
why not sedan stuff this hatchback shit 2007 below i would go
YASF1R 3 years ago
They make a sedan version of the WRX. The STI is the only one that has hatch back only. This video kind of sucks because they should show both versions. The sedan is much nicer looking and very refined.
seyqKr 2 years ago
i own this car this week and i own it on the sedan version and all i can say its that this thing blooww the fucking road its a racing machine it gained 45 more horsepower it has the sti spec turbo on it, and also intercooled too.
i got the sedan because the hatchback really sucks the sedan looks like the old one but with a lot more details it looks a lot more sports car.

do you know how much the lease is? or how much u paid
foxislaborn 3 years ago
i went to the subaru and the regular price is about 27 grand. because of its demand on this new version, so i paid for the tsi the registration and the whole entire thing to get it on the road the same day about 28500
davesweetragedy 3 years ago
its regular price is about 27 grand and i paid 28500 the day i got it with all include the tsi texas inspection the registration and all that stuff.

owner of a perfect condition 99 impreza outback sport. i love the power, and the major improvement, but i am still shaky about the front look. i am sure it will be great on the road.

Better performance but still darn ugly. I would buy the shark-looking Lancer Ralliart. Thats got the Dual clutch gearbox too so why buy this? 20 more HP? Not enough to get over that ugly hatchback.
DualofChaos 3 years ago
The difference is that Ralliart is a really heavy car, much more slow than 2008 WRX or 2008 Mazda 3 MPS (Mazdaspeed). I prefer a manual gear box but 25 more HP and less weight.
dahotfunk 3 years ago
But the Subaru is so ugly, its almost as bad looking as the Justy. I would pay a little more and sacrifice performance for the Subaru Legacy Turbo
DualofChaos 3 years ago
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I personally think the new Lancers look anemic, large face, stubby rear end, and the slim waistline of an anorexic.
I way dig the hatch styling the Subaru. When I see a big wing on a subaru/mitsubishi, the car enthusiast in me respects it, but the realist in me thinks how I wouldn't want to drive it anywhere really. Sure it looks good in context: track, racing, etc. But try going to work every day, or going to school, and having a big wing on a sedan. think

I love what Subaru has done to the WRX badge...
The WRX will no longer be synonymous with an automatic transmission!!! "Automatic WRX's" are now called the "GT"!!! And the new WRX seems VERY promising!!! I'm extremely happy the WRX is no longer going to have an automatic transmission.....

o-60 is 5.4
265 hp
track tunned suspension
comes in sedan or hatchback ( sti i think is also gonna be available in sedan with 305 hp and 0-60 of 4.7)

According to tests 0-60 is actually around 4.9 secs...

so? 0 to 60 time? Breaking from 60? lateral g? understeer and body-roll fixed?
this was a waste of time video (yes, i realize the irony of youtube, you know what i meant). of course it would be better than the 2008 model, the question is how much better?
alexebox 3 years ago
by the looks of it lots, it hass a gain of 45 bhp from the old one, all the sti suspension anti roll bars etc, its a much better car.
