Just looking at what was left of the train station from an Amtrak train from NYC to Cleveland in 1994 said it all. I am from NE Ohio but left the Rust Belt in 1977. I took my French spouse to visit what was left of my family in Cleveland in '94 and he was horrified. I had a friend from Bridgeport, CT move to Erie about 10 years ago and it turns out these guys on SSI were just after his benefits. He slipped on the ice, broke his arm, and got back to CT. Sad. Greetings from France.

Ya you make Erie look soooo horrible! I was born and raised in Erie but I have also lived in a couple other cities. Now I am married and have kids and we decided to buy our fist house in my home town and we can't complain. Cost of living is very cheap and it's a great place to raise kids. During the summer months Erie is beautiful and there is plenty to do, winter is a different story with below zero temps and lake effect snow. If you can get through the winter months then it's a chill place.
I would visit my mom YEARS ago in Erie and i recgnize some these houses! But these streets weren't that mean. A lot of nice people lived in these neighborhoods!

Well if you run around filming the lower east side you're gonna get run down neighborhoods. Erie ain't so bad it's just a victim of bad economic times. That's why I left 15 years ago.
Erie is run down and dirt shit poor, but crime isn't that bad in those neighborhoods. I would describe most of Erie as a cross between inbred West Virginia hicks and bottom of the barrel blue collar degradation. The West side has some "normal" areas but most of that city is shit. Lots of ugly, fatass people in that area--I've never seen so many 250 lb+ people crammed into such a small city. They need to tear down 90% of that hole and make it like Presque Isle.
i went erie for a summer once and there was one big neighborhood near downtown where all the house were either burnt out or boarded up, but it doesnt seem like you caught any of that on tape

erie ie eerie. its not good and its not bad. its not poor and its not rich. i know just about everyone on the east and west side (literally) and most of them are either wannabe gangsters or wannabe emo/goths. Its not a bad place, but if you're looking for fun. YOUR WAY OFF. Btw. If you think these "streets look mean". Don't go to New York City. They will eat you up and aspit you out.
P.S. I used roll through those streets that you taped, so don't disrespect where I was born and raised.

Well if you run around filming the lower east side you're gonna get run down neighborhoods. Erie ain't so bad it's just a victim of bad economic times. That's why I left 15 years ago.

Erie is run down and dirt shit poor, but crime isn't that bad in those neighborhoods. I would describe most of Erie as a cross between inbred West Virginia hicks and bottom of the barrel blue collar degradation. The West side has some "normal" areas but most of that city is shit. Lots of ugly, fatass people in that area--I've never seen so many 250 lb+ people crammed into such a small city. They need to tear down 90% of that hole and make it like Presque Isle.

i went erie for a summer once and there was one big neighborhood near downtown where all the house were either burnt out or boarded up, but it doesnt seem like you caught any of that on tape

i live in erie too, but i live in the suburbs yeahh those are harsh streets downtown but you should have gone on eat 18th st. that block is like the worsttt.

As a resident(you almost passed my house...ha) this video is accurate, those are harsh streets, only one guy felt brave enough to mow his lawn, all of that lack of traffic and sunshine!! I never leave my house I'm so scared.

GO THOUGH HARRISBURG PA GO TO SOUTH allison hill of south 13TH TO SOUTH 19TH DERRY STREET, PAXTON, VERNON, KITTANY, HALL MANOR HOUSING PROJECTS THE VERY WORST IN THE WHOLE CITY. Hey I grew up on the east side of Erie and I will agree that it has really gone downhill. At least you didn't get my old house in there! Ever since Hammermill closed the slumlords have been buying up all the property and the drug dealers have moved in. A lot of those buildings, esp Lama's bar on East Ave need to doused with gasoline and burned immediately! Preferably with the occupants still inside
