  • I hope tamron will release the VC Version for the 70-200

  • Love this video! thank you so much!

  • hi Matt, WHAT IS A FACTORY DEMO WITH TAMRON 70-300mm ?

is it the same as your tamron 70-300mm ?

  • @1Sylejmani it is a standard issue - it is my own one.

  • @thatnikonguy

do you recommand it for nikon d3100 ?

  • Hi Matt. I got a question: in your focus speed test of the Tamron 70-300mm, i noticed that it's on AF mode and yet you manually turn the focus ring. Is it ok to turn it manually even on AF mode? It won't damage the AF gears?

  • you get heaps more CA from the 70-200 tammy

  • after seeing how this lens performs, im thinking of getting one myself..its 3500HRK here in Croatia, which is about 700USD..

  • what is better 70-300 or 70-200?

  • congratulation, really pertinent, great video

  • Thanks. Good presentation. NOt many like yours, others just do talk. Thanks anyway.

  • first dislike :)

  • Hi Matt, Love your videos.

Let's pretend these 2 lens are the same price. Which will you buy?

  • @ztb8888 good question... If I don't own any other telephoto lenses, the 70-200

  • @thatnikonguy why that one?

  • Awesome review. Thanks, Matt. Very useful as I was wondering about Tamron 70-300 F/4-5.6 VC performance.

  • I find it hard to believe that the 70-300 came out better....

  • Thanks a lot for this - interesting and helpful info. I'm looking to get the 70-300 VC. SO FAR I've found a significantly higher number of people who say the Tamron 70-300 VC has better image quality than the Nikon 70-300 VR. I've found the same with regards to the VC versus VR.

  • Matt, Indoor sports martial arts. 200 or 300? With D90.

Love your channel. Thanks again for your time.

  • I currently own the Tamron 70-200 and honestly i was a little disappointed with the lens, but as they say " you get what you pay for "...... oh the reason i was disappointed was due to the fact of the poor low light focusing. If there is reasonable light NOOOO Problem.

  • @mslyd I haven't heard anything.

  • Hi sir! i would like to ask if you have news if tamron will release a faster focusing speed version for the 70-200? Thank you :D

  • Hi Sir. Thanks for this video.. I just want to ask your expertise. I am currently using Cannon 550d. I want to ask if this lens is very reliable. I like to do some macro shots as well.

Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2

It's price is a bit cheaper compare to Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC .. And my budget wont afford to buy Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC . hehe. Thanks Godbless

  • @papaDei14 It is a pretty good lens, for the price that is. I have a friend owning one, and the sharpness is OK good there and its macro capabilities is also awesome 1:2 tho. The price is not a BIT cheaper, it is a lot cheaper, and you will save a ton of money. What you'll be missing is the VC, which is incredibly useful for handheld tele shooting.. :(

  • Awesome review mate! Also may I ask what lens did you use to shoot the video??

  • Hey Matt, great videos man. What camera are you using to shoot the video with?

  • @CarterKhan Hi Mate - the D5100. Check out my video description, I usually include that info.

  • @thatnikonguy Cheers man, should have caught that. My bad! Once again, super videos, quality and education wise.

  • I have my Tamron 70-300 VC, for a couple of months or so. I've been MUCH satisfied by the way it perfoms. I was split between this lens and canon 55-250 IS II, but put off by the build quality of the later one. And so I decided to go for the tamron. The VC works really well, it help me in a lot of application, wildlife, church(low light, it keep you able to shoot at about 1/40 or 1/60 at 300mm), video, etc. The USD works really well, and it is SHARP. For the price, I'd say this is a bargain!

  • thanx for the superb review ! I am saurav fri=om India new to the DSLR world & thinking of buying a lens for my d3100. now I am totally clear what exactly I want & how much money should be spent. thanx again :)

  • @srvricky that is great to hear, thank you for the feedback and welcome to the channel.

  • I have this lens on Nikon D700 , pin sharp and fast, for the price i`st amazing

  • pretty impressive results! i'm seriously thinking about picking up the Tam VC for my Canon, as C doesn't make a reasonable similar alternative (closest is the 70-200 4L IS at nearly 3X the price here in Canada). at least the N crowd has N's own similar-priced version to consider... pretty well the ONLY part i regret about ditching N in favour of C. but i can deal with it. :P maybe on Monday i'll order up the Tam VC for myself finally..... your test / comparison does help a lot!

  • Do you return all the lenses you review? Do you use Amazon or similar?

    Cheers

  • I have the Tamron 70-300 reviewed here (combined with Canon 60D) and I tell you it is brilliant. It proved itself at the Air Tattoo show here in England. Pin sharp images and recently I took it on holiday and I can tell it takes fantastic portraits. Incredible details and sharpness. You can actually see and feel when the VC kicks in, it just freezes the image in your view finder.

I must say you are doing a good job and thanks for your reviews it helps people like me to make up their mind.

  • @Fami1aVare1a shooting from court side or stadium? depends what zoom range you need

  • Hi, Thank you for your review. You have got me thinking... I am no Pro but its becoming a hobby... Quick question would the 300 be better of for me as I am looking for a lens to take sport photos. Mainly Tennis... Indoors and outdoors... or would you recommend the 200?

  • one thing i'll like to point out is the 70-200 f2.8 will give ALOT better images in "LOW LIGHT" conditions.

also as giving your a better shallow depth of field.

  • Thank You for this test, Great work, very helpful.

  • @Barnyrubbleism thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on so many of my videos - and for your concern about my business! (Things are going great btw) Clearly you would prefer I list previous clients on the website, and use models in my reviews instead of objects. Unfortunately, I don't do that. Generally I don't do head to head lens comparisons when it would take up others time as well as my own.

I hope you don't mind I copy the same response onto all of your comments.

  • @Barnyrubbleism PS - interesting that brand new user starts leaving angry comments all over my videos, a day after I got done explaining to some people why I do not go through and edit/censor or block people unless things get out of hand.

It's like the angry fist shaking crowd are pushing to test my limits. I hope now you will return your attention to Betty and Bamm-Bamm.

  • @thatnikonguy Well said, I love your videos and people are just out to annoy you and put you off, take no notice :) keep making videos :D

  • @Barnyrubbleism Seems like your ad hominem statements toward Matt do nothing to deter the fact that the lens performs exceptionally well for the price. I've tested this lens against the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM & I got the same results Matt did. I was also skeptical but after trying myself on a tripod, I'm glad I saved the $200 or so. Same goes for the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM and the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, Sigma one-ups the Canon big time as well but this is a Tamron video :)

  • @Barnyrubbleism He produced a usable image at 1/60th of a second. I think he knows how to hold a camera.

  • 70-300 looks incredible, definitely going to buy that! Thanks for the amazing review, keep up the great work! :)

  • Hi Matt, I think you are doing a great job there. The two Tamron lenses you review in this video along with the nikon AF-S 70-300mmf/4.5-5.6VR are what I have in mind. First I would like to ask your opinion about the Tamron SP AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di VC USD and Nikon AF-S 70-300mmf/4.5-5.6VR. Is there a significant deference between these two except from the cost? Secondly I want to ask whether the Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 is stable enough @ 200mm or I must use always a tripod?

    Thanks in advance

  • @registeralex1 hi. I'm not too familiar with that nikon lens sorry, but the tamron is excellent and great value. Re hand holding, it depends on your shutter speed and technique. Above 1/250 second most people are ok.

  • But does this lens has the macro feature as well??

  • @vishalrossi46 it does not.

  • But does this lens has the macro feature as well??

  • I should be getting mine in the mail today, a great deal on AMAZON for $165, I'm very excited to see what it can do!

  • @michaelwaite30 serious! That is an amazing bargain!

  • Just got my Tamron 70-300 F4-5.6 with VC. Payed just under 300 for it, and it's a good thing I was sitting down when I first gave it a go. The VC is just AMAZING! I thought my eyes were acting up when it locked on to a single guitar string with 300mm. I triend to shake things up more and more, and it just kept it's ground and only shifted the view when I really moved the camera about. Thanks Matt for a great no-bull-review! True every word!

  • @ZeroG84 cheers - amazing value huh?

  • @thatnikonguy Indeed. The value is just bonkers if you ask me. Those chinese... with their spacerockets and tamrons! :D I'm gonna put the lens right away under fire and see how it holds up. I'm shooting a consert in a large indoor sports arena, no sooner than tomorrow! Really low light and long distances. If you wanna see the results I could link something here.

  • @ZeroG84 cool, please share some on the flickr page

  • what mic do you use to get you audio?

  • @ModelMyHomeStagingTV not the best one, Azden wireless pro

  • @thatnikonguy Actually, it sounds pretty good.

  • Great stuff! Your reviews are just a cut above the rest!

  • @WillemJacobus1 thank you very much

  • nice review.. im a canon user but i've always found the 70-300 very interesting and been delaying from pulling the trigger to buy it for some reason.. ur vid just made me one step closer!

  • I need one for shooting horses sometimes in overcast days. Will the 70-300 actually be batter than the 70-200 2.8?

  • Hello Matt,

First off, very very well made review. I don't usually comment on youtube vids but you're video is so well made that it finally convinced me to pull the trigger on the 70-300mm VC. I was definitely surprised to see the results you obtained in this video. Its going on a D70s that's still serving me well. Can't wait to get my hands on this thing! Cheers!

  • @supersong115 thank you for taking time to comment - enjoy the lens and hope to see you around the channel more.

  • Question - you have roughly 800 bucks to spend... would you get 70-200 2.8 or 70-300 VC and nikon 85mm 1.8d??

I would like to know your thoughts on either for wedding and portrait photography. I currently have the 35mm 1.8G and a D80 and D5000 bodies

  • @drewrw21 Can you get those for $800?

  • @thatnikonguy

    Used 85mm 1.8d - $375

    New 70-300 VC after rebate - $360

    Tamron 70-200 2.8 - 729

    What would you do?

  • weird accent

  • Hi Matt, as a recent subscriber i have really enjoyed checking out your videos.

I am looking to get a new 70-200 lens

The Tamron 70-200 f:2.8 was my favorite choice but since your video on both of these i am not so sure the 70-300 looks comparable on image quality

with the 70-200 f:2.8 though i expect subject separation from the background

would be better on the 70-200 at f:2.8 i would also benefit from the Sonys

steady shot inside on my Sony a900.

Would the 70-200 be better on full frame

  • @seagullface Welcome! Both were tested on full frame. Really depends if you want the range of 300. At long end, both separate well,.ary 200mm of course the 2.8 if better

  • Would the 70-300 work quite as well in a different lighting situation such as a gym?

  • @vinceangelocm VC yes, you may struggle with the aperture, depending on what body you use.

  • Great work, thanks!

  • @martin1gdata cheers

  • i have the tamron 70-300 and it takes unbelievable shots at 300. I cannot say enough about that lens. Everyone at the camera shop I go to has one.

  • @aneiljr agree, hope you will share some shots on the facebook and flickr pages.

  • I made a photo at 1/8 handheld with the Nikon 70-200 VRII,excelent image,super sharp! :)

  • @82ngt great work!

  • I told u the 70-300 is a beast!

  • Tamron makes some good lenses for a decent price. I definitely have Tamron on my shortlist.

  • @masticina which models are you looking at?

  • @thatnikonguy

The SP range is one to hit for. But yes that 70-300 really seems like a winner for a very very decent price.

  • i owned a nikkor 70-300 VR f4.5-5.6 made in thailand...i just want to know which one i better your tamron there or this nokkor lens..hope you make a tes of it..thanks..

  • @aaronfate4ever take note that the nikkor af-s 7-300mm if ed lens is much cheaper..

  • @aaronfate4ever Will see if I can, will try.

  • Amazed, put the VC on the 2.8 and what a lens that could be!

  • @MrDannyDMR could be great.

  • That was amazing.. looking at the 70-300 now :)

  • @augustomet Have fun, it is a bargain!

  • @thatnikonguy , one question, how does it compare with the Nikon 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G AF-S VR??
