This may be our last good night together We may never pass this way again. Just let me enjoy it 'til it's over, or forever Please don't tell me how the story ends. See the way our shadows come together Softer than your fingers on my skin Someday these may be all we remember of each other Please don't tell me how the story ends. Never's just the echo of forever Lonesome as a love that might have been. Let me go on lovin' and believin' 'til it's over Please don't tell me how the story ends.
Hey, how 'bout some props to Mr. Jerry Douglas for that tasty lap steel, an instrument that you don't see or hear too much (or enough) anymore. Also, why can one man write "never's just the echo of forever" & "freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose". One of the best ever, Mr. KK, God Bless You!
Just heard her for the first time accompanying Iris Dement. They are both wonderful artists. What have I been missing! Never heard this song done as good - fabulous is not a fitting adjective for this beauty.
She's of the caliber of talent of Eva Cassidy- she sings the music she loves... on her own terms... and she makes us all stop what we are doing to listen...mesmerized and captivated...
Truly awsome reading of a song that was written by one of the very best in the business. I could listen to this over and over for hours, in fact I do.
This performance shows why simple songs are so often near perfection. I admire Joan because she has sung what she wanted to sing rather than what she was told to sing. Try to find her version of Raglan Road she does with the cheiftains. Another perfect performance.
the thing about Joan, if you look at all her videos, is she clearly loves singing/music and dharing that love with anyone that cares to listen. On youtube she has a video where she singe at a Barnes and Noble, another few with the Funk Brothers, and some pop stuff too..notice in all of them she is totally given into the music. I've always admired that about her...and it comes through in the quality and talen of her vocals...she's easily one of my fav female vocalists.
Well said, ghampton 106. Which song is the Barnes/Nobles? Also, check out recently posted "Cathedrals" live in Philly (cannot really see her, but the song is wonderful).
While I'm loathe to say that anything can't be topped, I daresay this is the definitive version of this song: an incredible voice, superb musicians, intimate surroundings and what I'm coming to think is one of the finest songs ever written. Just not sure than it can get any better than this.
This is what country is, was, and should be. I love it. Joan's voice hits the "superior" range on this one (something she doesn't always do). Plus, Jerry Douglas kills with some really pretty lap steel playing.
I have bben searching for this ever since I saw it in ...what? BBC 4 a few weeks ago. couldn't remember what it was called. Isn't it fantastic? Thanks!
Oh, what a great video this is, country music at its purest and best. Love the vocals, love the steel, the piano, the whole damn thing actually. Thanks for posting this wonderful vid. 5 stars, for sure.
such a beautiful and talented woman. her voice sweeps me away everytime. although she does not look like she is singing live here :( but i could be wrong

Joan Osborne's interpretation of this classic is legendary.
It's such a pity that they felt the need to 'enhance' the vocal here.

Best interpretation of this beautiful love song written by Kris Kristofferson. Lovers really don't want to know how the story ends.
