Wow I wet my horses grain so she doesn't slop it everywhere. I agreed that they should have rugs on when standing but not when they are working because it will overheat them and make them get sick. Also they make special shoes for riding in the snow so horses don't slip. Granted I think they should have designated areas to use the carriages but I don't see much that is bad in this video besides two horses that I thought were a little lame.
7 Years ago, we had a massive blizzard in this area, all traffic came to a complete stop, all save emergency personnel on horses that had been brought in from nearby farms, which goes to show that horses are not weak little creatures.
As for the wet food, when mine was being fed outside, he'd slop his food all over the immediate area, then eat it out of the mud. Two days ago, after the terrible thunderstorms in my area, I spent an hour brushing mud out of his coat, because he'd dropped to the ground and wallowed in it from head to tail. He's a silly boy. Point is, horses are not dogs or kitties.
I have watched my horse standing serenely in a monsoon-like thunderstorm while I stood begging him to come into a barn/run-in shed. I coaxed him in with treats, stood there while he ate them, then tiptoed out... within 30 seconds, he was standing in the middle of the paddock again, the rain inundating him. Horses should be blanketed in cold weather, but they're much sturdier than you think.
If you guy's are so smart name three different breeds of horses and three color combinations and without going onto a search engine and looking it up! Look at mustangs they live in the wild and still survive the cold hard winters and don't give me that there use to it so are other horses and so are you because all of us ware coats in the winter or even if we get cold get a brain people!
When you train a carriage horse, and I have trained dozens, they have their ways of telling you when they like/dislike things.
If they dont like the job, they tell you by becoming extra cranky, stubborn, nervous, spooky... If they decline we cut our losses and find them a better home. Most carriage companies have been selecting horses for many years and develop a feel for which ones will successfully/happily complete training. As a result, there is a low "drop out rate".
The Horses have a double thick winter coat which is water proof. If you part their hair you will notice that the top part is wet but the wooly undercoat is dry.
this is silly. what do you think horses were used for before the time of cars!? they wont die from a little snow and ice. why dont you worry about the starving children of africa and india or the homeless in your own country before you make a silly video about a handful of healthy looking horses who happened to get caught in a snow storm for a day.
That's kinda cruel... the could have at least put a nice warm rug on them while they were pulling carts outside. Better yet, keep them in the warm stables :(
@IndieB3 Putting anything blanket like over a horses harness will most likely make it harder to use the lines and steer. That could cause a crash. They arent cold! Have you ever worked in the snow... maybe shoveled your driveway? You get warmer when you work, just like these horses get warmer when they walk. Light aerobic work keeps them warm.
@DownDog4722 yeah your right- i'm sorry I probably sounded like a right twat with that comment... i'm not against it at all I was just wondering why they didn't put rugs over them but you explained things to me so thanks and sorry again... and yeah I know its not cruel i dunno what i was thinking lol

I drive a carriage and get sick of people not thinking things through before they talk.
@DownDog4722 Use special blankets and you don't have that problem. Also driving them through the snow isn't the problem. It's the horses waiting in the rain and snow after they've been working and warmed up. They cool down too quickly after that in weather like on the video. And some have blankets but more haven't. This is not how to treat an animal. Any animal. several carriage horses died in the last couple of weeks, so something must be wrong otherwise they wouldn't collapse.
I am aghast that the money hungry slobs who operate the carriages couldnt have left the poor things for one day at the joke they call a stable, " Boxes where horses are kept" would be a more apt title,
@anigeryelpir Horses love those "boxes". Domestication is much like your living under a government. You and the horse sacrifice parts of your freedom for benefits under a larger force. The horses surrender their total freedom to walk outside of fences 24/7 and spend a small portion of their time in cooperation with their owner. The owner in return makes sure the horses get luxuries the natural world does not provide, like protection, shelter, health care and a reliable food/water source...
This is fed up, you know its one thing to use horses for to pull your cart. But HORSES ARE NOT MADE FOR COLD CLIMATES. I just can't believe people get away this shit, I really think that America is ruining the world, and in there heads they think there the best. There nothing to European countrys, America is like ethopia compared.
@SaltSlasher : really? are you serious...really? um...last time i checked most draft breeds were bred in COLD CLIMATES! Belgians in BELGIUM (a small European country that gets very COLD in the winter) Percherons in France, Shires and Suffolks in England, Clydesdales in Scotland, all chilly climates! Its amazing sometimes how close minded you peta people are!
@pinkfeathers2006 Im the close minded one, your the idiot, I am not a peta but it doesn't take an rocket science to see animal cruelty.
How about I strap your face to my skate board, and whip you up the canyon so I can go snowboarding?? And just because a horse born from a cold, doesn't mean its breed for cold winters like that, have you ever seen the hair on a horse it ain't like a dog who can produce his own heat. So Captain Obvious, how many hate letters do you send a week??
@SaltSlasher have you never seen a horses winter coat? They have a short slick coat in the summer. and a long thick coat in the winter. Like the way huskies coats are.
@SaltSlasher Oh really. Never heard of the Icelandic? Which is from Iceland (which as the name suggests, gets pretty cold), they even race them on frozen ponds.
There are also a number of draft breeds from very cold countries. A somewhat wild (though some people use them, some roam wild) called the Yakut horse, which is know to survive in -60 degree weather (which is of course a hell of a lot colder than New York ever gets).
@chantalcyrus Dry food? Last time I checked, horses eat the same grass they walk on and lick muddy salt blocks for minerals. They dont a crap! In fact, I feed my old thoroughbred WETTED DOWN FEED because he has problems chewing with fewer teeth. HE LOVES IT! Think warm oatmeal... I also have to soak his hay. What would you feed a horse, three hot meals a day from your kitchen? LOL! My horses also gladly wolf down soft or bruised apples that I wouldnt like to eat.
this is not horse abuse . you dont know much about horses when you refer to wet food . horses can eat there grain wet. your a fool. a horse loves to work , look at horses in a paddock in the rain they keep on eating in the rain . my advice learn about horses you fool .
idiots, this have been around for centurys!! yes i do think the horses should have protection but their is by no means any reason to ban carriage rides all we need is apropriot drivers! and horses that can fit the part and that arent oldd!! lolz!!
I'm a lifelong horse owner for more than 40 years. Working horses is not an inherently bad thing but the industry needs to be controlled keeping in mind the needs of a horse - food, water, company of his peers, freedom of movement, R & R,. Blanketing is based on conditions, and should be part of comprehensive regulations regarding the use of horses in a chaotic noisy inner city such as NYC. Horses shouldn't be working on icey asphalt, and IMHO giving rides in the Park in fair weather only.
providencelady, do you own any horses? Have you had them in pasture when its snowing? did they go and play in the snow? Well its probably because they enjoy the colder temps. And they enjoy working, It keeps their mind sharp. A bored horse cribs and chews, and paws. When we go pick up OUR horses here in Texas they see the trailer and come running to the gate, they wanna go down town and work. I feel bad for stable horses that get turned out to a tiny pasture once a day and ridden only 2xs/ week.
yeah, okay poor horses. . .right. Try poor drivers. with their bosses telling them they have to work in rain and snow. Im a driver in downtown San Antonio, Tx. And at 30 degrees Im FREEZING and the horses are still warm.
My horses usually stand in the snow even when offered shelter. The horses do like the work and are warmer when working. None were slipping and none looked cold or unhappy. And you would rather them be locked up in a stall rather than out in the open? Then when they are locked up you scream abuse that they aren't out. You people have no clue what you are talking about and try to equate horses to humans. They aren't humans and have different needs and desires than we do.
None of those horses slipped on the "slippery roads". Carriage horses that work on asphalt or concrete have special shoes made specifically for that purpose, similar to the cleats a soccer player wears.
Horses have very very thick insulating skin, especially heavy working horses like these, as well as a fabulous winter coat. Like a husky, the fur protects them from wind and rain.
Moving and working while it is cold helps blood flow to the extremeties and keeps body temp up.
Newsflash! horses and Draft horses especially love the SNOW! They were bred for working in COLD climates...EX. Clydesdales- bred in Scotland where it's COLD! Fuckin peta people who know NOTHING about horses, carriages or what it takes to operate one! Go read a fucking book, get a clue and stop posting ridiculous crap.
@pinkfeathers2006. You are right, Draft horses were breed to put up with nasty conditions. The difference here is that this is a New York is a crazy city with crazy drivers. I've been living here my entire life, I know. What I am getting at is that it is both unsafe for the horse and the driver in the car for horses to work in the city like this and it should be banned.
@pinkfeathers2006 Hi! I just felt the need to let you know you're completly WRONG! yeah, they love the SNOW, not Icy, slippery CONCRETE! they could get KILLED if they happened to trip!
@MegaApples1000 CARRIAGE DRIVER RULE OF THUMB- "THE MORE THEY TALK, THE LESS THEY ACTUALLY KNOW." I assure you that the only wrongdoing in this footage is that the horses seem to be trotted regularly on hard surfaces. That wears on joints and makes some inevitable genetic problems show sooner. Their chances of dying from slipping are less than yours with four legs. Did I miss a tiger trap in the video? Its flat ground! Unless they are galloping with scissors they arent going to die! LOL!!!

@pinkfeathers2006 my neighbor has a couple of belgians they are very pretty horses. I have a morgan, arab, and a TWH. I have a vid on my profile with them playing in the snow. it was 15 degrees that day blowing snow but they didnt care.
@pinkfeathers2006 i've seen them slip on snow & get hit by cars (not at the same time lol) so thats what worries me. breathing in the exhaust, which causes respiratory problems- & working on pavement/ cobblestone which can cause leg/joint problems... Thats what bothers me about this whole thing.
@pinkfeathers2006 I DO know a lot about horses. I'm driving carriages for years and years already and this is total bullshit. Although horses can have a lot, getting them warmed up and then leave them stand in the cold without any protection will make them sick, without a doubt.
hey guys/gals thanks for the thumbs up what people for get is about the buy gone era looking at that clip shure the horse looks outa place but back in the day they were it ud get hung for steeling them! and to have some uneduacted dick heads telling u ther ill treated well thats a crime.long live man and horse i have 3 and i thrash them they love it and get treated accordling because the horse is a special creature which has good intellignce and an even better trust once gained.
@Bucephalus98 But they do catch a cold when being worked and then have to stand still without having a blanket on their backs. And let´s be honest. What are those animals doing there in a big city?
whata joke its sick alrite....these city slickers have nothing better to do i bet the person filming was in tearse!.i didnt see any skiny horses and gess what u peta puppets horses NEED wet food to digest it you,r all a joke that have been miss,n formed....down with peta
lol well lifes full of suprises renee merry christmas thats my gift to you.and yes i did do a good job infact im also a very good cook.but these horse should clearly be shot then dragged down the street
these aimals look pretty healthy to me.and iv worked in worse conditions than this.i dont feel to bad for them.but i agree the carages shouldnt be on the street.
It's hard to say from this video. Most of the horses shown just standing around had partial blanket. A horse working may prefer to be without blanket, as they heat up with work. One did have a cover. People sitting would be more cold. Horse's body temp is higher than humans. My horses can stand out in rain and their skins are dry and they prefer to be out vs covered. -- Didn't see anything awful, IMO.
but they are good are they ideal oh hell no. but they are loved and cared for. they could be in a much worse place. at least where they are they have laws to help them. this is how i feel. i'm sorry if you feel differently but since we live in the USA we are both entitled to our own options. i know you would rather see them free, but sadly they can't.
please show me the abuse. show me the thin horses and the horses being whipped. because if you think having a horse out in snow is abuse then you are indeed naive. and i have no problem with a horse being out in the snow.
Ok lets see. Are these horses thin? Are they being whipped? Are they bleeding? Are they scared? no they are not. unless you can say yes to any of them then there is no abuse. i'm sorry if a little girl cannot understand this. in Black Beauty you can say yes to all of those questions. there are now laws to place to keep horses safe. If you nothing knowledgeable to say then don't say anything. you only know what you see and you are only seeing one side of a story. this is not a laughing matter.
You are a funny little person. If not for the "exploiting" of horses as you call it, then there would be no horses since people use to eat them till they discovered that they can be used domestically. I have seen abuse first hand and instead of wasting time posting videos about it i have done things to help stop it. this is but a small part of a larger picture. i can't see anything wrong with THIS VIDEO!!don't talk about other videos. if you have noting wise to say then stop this foolishness.
i just don't think you have your head on straight and have no clue as to what the real world is. i feel sorry for you. the hater here is you. and as i have said before if you haven't seen it first hand then you have nothing to say. and there is no difference in the past and present if you say riding is exploiting then you must mean all of it. you can't have it both ways.
And yes i will pull this from the bible. because you say that riding animals is exploiting them. yet you say what the bible did was not. how can you justify that? you can't.
I don't pretend. I do love my horses. I love them as much as I love my family. Yes it may be unnatural for horses to be in a big city but that is life. Horses an humans have been working together for years. It may not be a perfect relationship but then again there is no such thing as perfect. Also if you have never seen them in person how can you talk about it. These videos only show one side and in order for you to talk trash about it you need to know both sides which you don't.
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war." I can't wait for the 4 horseman of the apocalypse to come and get you :) Face it everywhere people are exploiting horse from the bible to history to present day. Just deal with it :)
Ok well lets see. If riding animals is exploitation then you need to go an talk to Mary and Joseph and tell them that riding that donkey to Bethlehem was wrong! FYI i have saved around 22 horses for the slaughter house. i have helped rehab horses that were abused and neglected by ignorant people.
yes it shows you what an idiot you are and i'm not rating you. if you want this to end then maybe you should go and talk to the Amish and tell them to stop what they are doing. you might also might want to read up on your history. horses have been doing this since forever. also if this was as bad as you say then the ASPCA would shut them down.
My horses are well taken care of thank you. and we are not talking about blinders. this is a video about Carriage horses in ice and snow storm. if you want to talk about another video then do so on that page. so what are you going to do for the wild horses that are out in the freezing cold? these horses have a stall to dry off in and get warm. you are an idiot and need to stop talking till you know your facts? have you even been to NY and seen them in real life?
So you do exploit animals! I thought so. And yes shelters are good. they help people give good homes to animals instead of leaving them on the street.
So then I guess you think your family is evil and wrong. What a sad person you are. I guess you also think that any show with animals is evil. I hope you don't have any pets cause that exploiting them too.
I'm just tired of listening to stupid ignorant people. there is no point in talking. you have your opinion and i have mine. we can only agree to disagree.
lets see anybody that says they grew up around horses would know that they are made for this kind of weather. yes i said that but my horses can go into the barn if they want to and the mustangs can't. once again you are stupid and know nothing of horses!!!
you are a joke!!! and i love my horses and they hate people like you! when my horses see me they come running up and are happy to see me. and i'll never give up. i love horses to much to listen to people like you.
OMG!!!! if you think that these horses are hurting because of snow and cold, then you are stupid. horses are made for this kind of weather. i have 4 horses in the back that are in snow and love it. you make me laugh!
once again i see you know nothing. what a sad sad little person you are. and i can see why you don't have horses. and i'm glad to have horses and they love me and i love them. it's a shame you will never know what it feels like to be loved by a horse.
you are funny. like a little snow is going to hurt them. please. the wild horses have it much worse when the weather is bad. no shelter or food. these horses are fed and cared for. i have over 20 years with horses and you have none.
what an idiot you really are. it's people like you that are sending the mustangs to kill pens. and please if you think riding a horse and loving him is torture then you really are stupid.
once again. it's called body language. when my horse is working his ears are perked up and looking around. when the "idiots" come around him he looks at them and eating treats from them. when my horse starts to act odd or not like himself i stop working him for the day.. but since YOU KNOW NOTHING about horses you would not understand this at all.
oh please!!!! you are a sad little person. if loving my horse is "exploiting" them, then yes i'm guilty and proud of it. you need to grow up and learn a thing or two about horses. it's people like you that send horses to the kill pen and people like me who have to save them and give them homes.
What a sad person you are. You really know nothing. Without the "exploitation" of horses we would not be who we are today.the history of the world was written from the back of a horse.the wild mustangs helped write the history of the USA. yes I CAN TALK TO MY HORSE!!!!!! my horse loves it when we go riding or when i just lead him around the farm. yes the carriage horses are ok i've been to NY and seen them.
Animal exploitation, that is funny. So you think that all horse events are? horses are breed to do work. this is work. and if you did know anything about horses, which i don't think you do, then you would know that most horse trainers can talk to the horse. they read the body language of the horse. anybody who knows anything about horses knows this little fact. you might what to learn some facts before talking trash about something you know nothing about.
Why yes he did. He loved his job. and it wasn't a stupid comment. anyone who knows horses knows when a horse loves his job and when he doesn't. when my horse wasn't feeling it i would call it a day and put him in the field. it seems you don't know anything about horses to think my comment is stupid.
Very nice looking horses.... looks like they are doing well. If people think these horses are not enjoying this, they are wrong. These horses were bred for pulling. Makes me want to go out and get a carriage ride. Thanks for the cool video!
I used to have my horses at home and the way it was build the horses could go in to hide from the rain or snow if they wanted to but they never ever did they don't mind the cold like us theyre coat changes all the time to adapt.
Some horses have thicker coats than others. At 0:23 seconds the horse has a slicker over him to catch the snow. Oh and is that another one at 1:49? 1:52? Horses are very good at keeping themselves warm with multiple layers of winter coat. Especially when they are actively moving. The average horse grows a coat that is just as good as any blanket available to the equine market.
Horses do not care about wet food and it has no adverse effects. Actually some vets recommend wetting grain down
There are MANY things in cities that arent "necessary". Give me a break. Maybe youre not necessary, either. Our business is iconic and the most famous carriage incustry in the WORLD. If that makes you mad...GOOD. Were here to stay, whether ignorant petards like you like it or not.
PS
Are you going to jump off a bridge when we get our raise in the winter?LOL
I'm not trying to afend you in any way, everyone has their own opinion, but i cant keep on being polite. Sorry for acting how i am about to act.
Use ur brain u scumbag! duh in Europe winter is stronger but horses hide from the storm!!!!!!! and when they get cold they dont stand on cold paved cement they dig into dirt and start to roll around on the ground to get warmed up!!!!! IF U DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HORSES THEN KEEP UR DUMBASS MOUTH SHUT!!!
NYC has the highest accident rate in the country. see the video and watch the full movie Blinders in the Documentary channel to view these poor horses' sufferings. The drivers don' want you to see this side of the industry. That is why there are here every day rating comments and posting lies.
If I give my horses the option the will be outside digging in the snow, they rarely come in the barn except to eat. Do you even know a horse? Kinda wish the driver had wapped you, you could probably use a little sense knocked into your thick skull.
animal pulled vehicles are dangerous in 21st century city.NYC has the highest horse drawn carriage accident rate in the country, since 1994 there have been 26 accidenst involving horse-drawn carriages, injuring 31 people and killing 5 horses.
What ARE you talking about? Were we to debate ANYONE'S stupid comments, we would spend HOURS discussing YOURS. And frankly, we have better things to do with our lives than to continue attempting to push one ATOM of horse knowledge into your brain.
As far as "fats", any clown can see I read and write at a high level but every once in a while I miss one.
That's "facts" for those of you who are stupid, and the 2 of you that chose my missing one letter to show I'm stupid or stoned, I guess you know I'm right, because that's all you got

the drivers can only harass and insult people because there is no excuse for this cruelty. See videos of them on youtube attacking activists, attacking pedicabs drivers, calling people faggots and overcharging tourists. But they can insult all they want since the insults are meaningless from such low beings
despite the hazards to pedestrians, passengers, bicyclists and motorists, horse-drawn carriage businesses are only required to carry $20,000 per carriage in insurance instead of $200,000 for each pedicab and an additional 2 million for each pedicab company
Less than 50% of New York Carriage drivers hold drivers licenses. these cash-only businesses overcharge consumrs and provide limited resources to the city. According to audit conducted by NC comptroller, carriage horses don't have ready access to water, have no shade in the summer, work on hot pavement and stand in dirty wate

lol what a joke, every time we ask a horse to do something we're "forcing it to work"
Where was the emergency vehicle? I heard it, didn't see it. Even the vehicles in opposing traffic were still crossing.
And I guess no one ever told you that horses are able to handle getting wet because of their coat structure. Look it up and learn something.
And why no shots of any horse slipping on those slippery streets, even at a trot? Cause they didn't maybe?
And since when newly wet food is an issue?

I just can't believe people get away this shit, I really think that America is ruining the world, and in there heads they think there the best. There nothing to European countrys, America is like ethopia compared.
SaltSlasher 1 year ago
@SaltSlasher : really? are you serious...really? um...last time i checked most draft breeds were bred in COLD CLIMATES! Belgians in BELGIUM (a small European country that gets very COLD in the winter) Percherons in France, Shires and Suffolks in England, Clydesdales in Scotland, all chilly climates! Its amazing sometimes how close minded you peta people are!
pinkfeathers2006 1 year ago 3
@pinkfeathers2006 Im the close minded one, your the idiot, I am not a peta but it doesn't take an rocket science to see animal cruelty.
How about I strap your face to my skate board, and whip you up the canyon so I can go snowboarding?? And just because a horse born from a cold, doesn't mean its breed for cold winters like that, have you ever seen the hair on a horse it ain't like a dog who can produce his own heat. So Captain Obvious, how many hate letters do you send a week??
SaltSlasher 1 year ago
@SaltSlasher have you never seen a horses winter coat? They have a short slick coat in the summer. and a long thick coat in the winter. Like the way huskies coats are.
xDemonFillyx 1 year ago
@SaltSlasher Oh really. Never heard of the Icelandic? Which is from Iceland (which as the name suggests, gets pretty cold), they even race them on frozen ponds.
There are also a number of draft breeds from very cold countries. A somewhat wild (though some people use them, some roam wild) called the Yakut horse, which is know to survive in -60 degree weather (which is of course a hell of a lot colder than New York ever gets).

this is wrong
carriage riding on a nice day is fine
in a snow storm! what are you people thinking!
think about it.
and i'm so sure that would not want to pull a heavy carrige around town in a snow storm with out prtection.
this is wrong.
you people who don't agree with me don't
i don't care just no that the horses do.
they have a life like we do.
they might like to work but i'm pretty sure not in ice cold weather.and the food should be nice and dry
chantalcyrus 1 year ago
@chantalcyrus Dry food? Last time I checked, horses eat the same grass they walk on and lick muddy salt blocks for minerals. They dont a crap! In fact, I feed my old thoroughbred WETTED DOWN FEED because he has problems chewing with fewer teeth. HE LOVES IT! Think warm oatmeal... I also have to soak his hay. What would you feed a horse, three hot meals a day from your kitchen? LOL! My horses also gladly wolf down soft or bruised apples that I wouldnt like to eat.
DownDog4722 1 year ago
this is not horse abuse . you dont know much about horses when you refer to wet food . horses can eat there grain wet. your a fool. a horse loves to work , look at horses in a paddock in the rain they keep on eating in the rain . my advice learn about horses you fool .

Horses shouldn't be working on icey asphalt, and IMHO giving rides in the Park in fair weather only.
theodorodepangrazia 2 years ago
and i did see at least 1 horse wearing a blanket.
Knightphoenix1 2 years ago
providencelady, do you own any horses? Have you had them in pasture when its snowing? did they go and play in the snow? Well its probably because they enjoy the colder temps. And they enjoy working, It keeps their mind sharp. A bored horse cribs and chews, and paws. When we go pick up OUR horses here in Texas they see the trailer and come running to the gate, they wanna go down town and work. I feel bad for stable horses that get turned out to a tiny pasture once a day and ridden only 2xs/ week.
Knightphoenix1 2 years ago
yeah, okay poor horses. . .right. Try poor drivers. with their bosses telling them they have to work in rain and snow. Im a driver in downtown San Antonio, Tx. And at 30 degrees Im FREEZING and the horses are still warm.
Knightphoenix1 2 years ago
@Knightphoenix1 The drivers choose this profession, Sadly, The horses don't have a choice!!!!
providencelady 2 years ago 3
My horses usually stand in the snow even when offered shelter. The horses do like the work and are warmer when working. None were slipping and none looked cold or unhappy. And you would rather them be locked up in a stall rather than out in the open? Then when they are locked up you scream abuse that they aren't out. You people have no clue what you are talking about and try to equate horses to humans. They aren't humans and have different needs and desires than we do.

NEWFLASH!
All you commenters are retarded.
The horses should not be out in the cold, and the horses didn't seem to like it as you say, they did.
hansberrylovesyoux3 2 years ago
None of those horses slipped on the "slippery roads". Carriage horses that work on asphalt or concrete have special shoes made specifically for that purpose, similar to the cleats a soccer player wears.
Horses have very very thick insulating skin, especially heavy working horses like these, as well as a fabulous winter coat. Like a husky, the fur protects them from wind and rain.
Moving and working while it is cold helps blood flow to the extremeties and keeps body temp up.
Don't be dumb.

I have a vid on my profile with them playing in the snow. it was 15 degrees that day blowing snow but they didnt care.
raphmaster23 1 year ago
@pinkfeathers2006 i've seen them slip on snow & get hit by cars (not at the same time lol) so thats what worries me. breathing in the exhaust, which causes respiratory problems- & working on pavement/ cobblestone which can cause leg/joint problems... Thats what bothers me about this whole thing.
Kishwick 1 year ago
@pinkfeathers2006 I DO know a lot about horses. I'm driving carriages for years and years already and this is total bullshit. Although horses can have a lot, getting them warmed up and then leave them stand in the cold without any protection will make them sick, without a doubt.

MegF142857 2 years ago
but they are good are they ideal oh hell no. but they are loved and cared for. they could be in a much worse place. at least where they are they have laws to help them. this is how i feel. i'm sorry if you feel differently but since we live in the USA we are both entitled to our own options. i know you would rather see them free, but sadly they can't.

please show me the abuse. show me the thin horses and the horses being whipped. because if you think having a horse out in snow is abuse then you are indeed naive. and i have no problem with a horse being out in the snow.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
Ok lets see. Are these horses thin? Are they being whipped? Are they bleeding? Are they scared? no they are not. unless you can say yes to any of them then there is no abuse. i'm sorry if a little girl cannot understand this. in Black Beauty you can say yes to all of those questions. there are now laws to place to keep horses safe. If you nothing knowledgeable to say then don't say anything. you only know what you see and you are only seeing one side of a story. this is not a laughing matter.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
Please note it says "save a horse ride a cowboy" it's from a song. you are ignorant of many things it seems.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
You are a funny little person. If not for the "exploiting" of horses as you call it, then there would be no horses since people use to eat them till they discovered that they can be used domestically. I have seen abuse first hand and instead of wasting time posting videos about it i have done things to help stop it. this is but a small part of a larger picture. i can't see anything wrong with THIS VIDEO!!don't talk about other videos. if you have noting wise to say then stop this foolishness.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
i just don't think you have your head on straight and have no clue as to what the real world is. i feel sorry for you. the hater here is you. and as i have said before if you haven't seen it first hand then you have nothing to say. and there is no difference in the past and present if you say riding is exploiting then you must mean all of it. you can't have it both ways.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
And yes i will pull this from the bible. because you say that riding animals is exploiting them. yet you say what the bible did was not. how can you justify that? you can't.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
I don't pretend. I do love my horses. I love them as much as I love my family. Yes it may be unnatural for horses to be in a big city but that is life. Horses an humans have been working together for years. It may not be a perfect relationship but then again there is no such thing as perfect. Also if you have never seen them in person how can you talk about it. These videos only show one side and in order for you to talk trash about it you need to know both sides which you don't.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war." I can't wait for the 4 horseman of the apocalypse to come and get you :) Face it everywhere people are exploiting horse from the bible to history to present day. Just deal with it :)
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
Ok well lets see. If riding animals is exploitation then you need to go an talk to Mary and Joseph and tell them that riding that donkey to Bethlehem was wrong! FYI i have saved around 22 horses for the slaughter house. i have helped rehab horses that were abused and neglected by ignorant people.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
yes it shows you what an idiot you are and i'm not rating you. if you want this to end then maybe you should go and talk to the Amish and tell them to stop what they are doing. you might also might want to read up on your history. horses have been doing this since forever. also if this was as bad as you say then the ASPCA would shut them down.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
My horses are well taken care of thank you. and we are not talking about blinders. this is a video about Carriage horses in ice and snow storm. if you want to talk about another video then do so on that page. so what are you going to do for the wild horses that are out in the freezing cold? these horses have a stall to dry off in and get warm. you are an idiot and need to stop talking till you know your facts? have you even been to NY and seen them in real life?
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
So you do exploit animals! I thought so. And yes shelters are good. they help people give good homes to animals instead of leaving them on the street.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
So then I guess you think your family is evil and wrong. What a sad person you are. I guess you also think that any show with animals is evil. I hope you don't have any pets cause that exploiting them too.

once again i see you know nothing. what a sad sad little person you are. and i can see why you don't have horses. and i'm glad to have horses and they love me and i love them. it's a shame you will never know what it feels like to be loved by a horse.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
you are funny. like a little snow is going to hurt them. please. the wild horses have it much worse when the weather is bad. no shelter or food. these horses are fed and cared for. i have over 20 years with horses and you have none.

phantomwrangler 2 years ago
once again. it's called body language. when my horse is working his ears are perked up and looking around. when the "idiots" come around him he looks at them and eating treats from them. when my horse starts to act odd or not like himself i stop working him for the day.. but since YOU KNOW NOTHING about horses you would not understand this at all.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
oh please!!!! you are a sad little person. if loving my horse is "exploiting" them, then yes i'm guilty and proud of it. you need to grow up and learn a thing or two about horses. it's people like you that send horses to the kill pen and people like me who have to save them and give them homes.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago
they are fine doing what they love to do. the humane society is always there to make sure the horses are cared for. you know NOTHING!!!

phantomwrangler 2 years ago
Animal exploitation, that is funny. So you think that all horse events are? horses are breed to do work. this is work. and if you did know anything about horses, which i don't think you do, then you would know that most horse trainers can talk to the horse. they read the body language of the horse. anybody who knows anything about horses knows this little fact. you might what to learn some facts before talking trash about something you know nothing about.
phantomwrangler 2 years ago

Some horses have thicker coats than others. At 0:23 seconds the horse has a slicker over him to catch the snow. Oh and is that another one at 1:49? 1:52? Horses are very good at keeping themselves warm with multiple layers of winter coat. Especially when they are actively moving. The average horse grows a coat that is just as good as any blanket available to the equine market.
Horses do not care about wet food and it has no adverse effects. Actually some vets recommend wetting grain down

Look, every sane person wants to prevent cruelty. But people tend to get a wee bit... trigger-happy about it.
First off - you mentioned "more fatalities" at the end of the video. What fatalities do you mean? You hadn't mentioned any beforehand.
Second - that is not a storm. That is a very small amount of snow.
Third, none of those horses look abused in the least. They look well-fed, shiny and reasonably happy.
Animal cruelty is a serious accusation. Don't make that accusation so lightly.

EVERY SINGLE HORSE in this vid looks GREAT - well fleshed, well muscled, calm, sound.
I LOVE that this video is here on Youtube - the humaniacs show themselves up for the freaks that they are LOL
LET'S SEE SOME MORE! "
It's similar to other posts, like a catalogue of posts

So if they are cold then they can chose to go inside, the horses don't have a choice. Geez why so heartless?

Horses live outside like deer, elk, moose.
Horses don't seek shelter, they don;t live in dens, they don't build structures, No cave dwelling horses either.
Roxie you couldn't be any dumber, you don't know anything, thats why the world has no job for you.
Jump off a bridge, a least you might make the news, wear a PeTA tee shirt. !!
It's hard to listen to all the voices in your head at once.
Jump
Jump
Jump

animal pulled vehicles are dangerous in 21st century city.NYC has the highest horse drawn carriage accident rate in the country, since 1994 there have been 26 accidenst involving horse-drawn carriages, injuring 31 people and killing 5 horses.

these carriage drivers are here everyday to post misinformation and insults. They are here for hours.
delgadorox 2 years ago
Laugh all you want, that was a road closed to all but pedestrians and emergency traffic.
I was on the other side of the road when the carriages pulled an illegal u turn over the double yellow line and came into my lane.
By law those carriages have to get out of my way, I'm allowed on there and they are secondary users
We're all laughing at your supreme ignorance
Radio Reamer, Radio Twat and you say I have the small brain?
Nice try

"RadioReporttwat"
There you go again
I call it the hack line and a term that goes with hack line is "heavy"
It's used in many industries that carry passengers but it seem that "You know NOTHING lol " to use your own words.
Just want to argue in the face of facts.

"The little voices in your very tiny brain"
Nice insult.
Of course it was necessary because you have no argument so that's what you are reduced to.
RadioReporter01 2 years ago
No you're banned because you just want to fight, insult and ignore the facts in defense of a bunch of horse abusers.
Radio Twat indeed
RadioReporter01 2 years ago
Of course we won't debate the stupidity of your comment because it's obvious to all.
You sure spend a lot of time talking shit on here
RadioReporter01 2 years ago
What ARE you talking about? Were we to debate ANYONE'S stupid comments, we would spend HOURS discussing YOURS. And frankly, we have better things to do with our lives than to continue attempting to push one ATOM of horse knowledge into your brain.
Sheepinwolfgarb 2 years ago
And you do spend hours harassing and annoying with slander and insults, in the face of fats.
RadioReporter01 2 years ago
"And you do spend"?!?
"In the face of fats"?!?!!
Doubling up on the meds are we?
Baah ha
StopLiesSeeTruth 2 years ago
That's right, you do spend a lot of time on here.

But they can insult all they want since the insults are meaningless from such low beings
delgadorox 2 years ago
despite the hazards to pedestrians, passengers, bicyclists and motorists, horse-drawn carriage businesses are only required to carry $20,000 per carriage in insurance instead of $200,000 for each pedicab and an additional 2 million for each pedicab company
