it almost looks like Snuka has the blade...nope. Lou cuts big at the 3:50 mark. 1st he moved the tape out of the way...another slice at 3:57...another at 4:10...again at 4:46...again at 5:18....this is a strange match. that Superfly splash looked very stiff indeed. The crowd seemed bored up to that point and the match went way too long. Normally a manager has to lay the blade deeper because of the no sweat factor. sweating helps the juice look more serious.
Capt. Lou was the only WWF manager that worked a semi regular schedule. Albano was an aweful worker, but his matches were not supposed to be about great ring work, but about fans getting to see Albano finally getting paid back for his evil deeds.
Did you hear the one story in wrestling magazines Paul Heyman told I think it was him. He said they weregoing to be late for the card at MSG in the winter and the car broke down so Albano & Snuka got out Albano had only cutoffs on a Hawiian shirt & flipflops they had to run to make the card.
@IATM29 I think in an interview that Heyman did he was taking some pills to stop him from drinking that made him throw up I guess Lou's wife made him stop drinking or she was divorcing him
If WWE did release a DVD set they not only could use the WWE stuff, but the stuff from Mid Atlantic and maybe Georgia. I would love to see a full match between Flair and Snuka espcially the US title matches.
As much as I loved Captian Lou, he was a HORRIBLE wrestler. Obvious blading, no reaction to head butts, punches, chops...why bother, it just was a horrible match.
@poppedcollars It was'nt supposed to be a good match, evenVince said in the commentary that it was a mismatch. The appeal of the match was in seeing the Capt. Lou get his comeuppance for cheating Snuka out of his money.
Lou Albano was terrible. Jimmy Snuka was a unique character, but way overrated. Living in NYC in the 80's I got to see him wrestle live a lot, and it was always the same thing. Someone show me a match where he goes 15-20 minutes and actually does some moves. Headbutt, punch, chop, headbutt, punch, chop, headbutt...
@JohnnyBakery in pro wrestling they all have their little gimmicks and do them over and over again what you said about Snuka applies to Ric Flair and Hogan same moves over and over and over again. Pro wrestling is for kids it's all a game and a bunch of gimmicks
WOW, what a great flash back...I remember when Snuka turned clean, and Buddy Rogers took him on as his manager. It was still best when Snuka was a bad guy and Cap't Lou actually brought him out in a cage(anyone remember that) Snuka was da man back then....so great to see these old matches
@elchicho25 They didn't hide it so much because the fans weren't "smart" to it yet. Look at the infamous Larry Zybysko turn on Bruno Sammartino and Bruno's blading job is so unbelievably obvious too. But, that's how it was then
Is it me, or do you hear someone yelling "Take it out! Take it out!" right after Albano did that OBVIOUS bladejob??? Someone was telling him to take the blade out of his wrist tape I believe.
Uh...No. This was the in the Kayfabe days when nobody was supposed to know about things like "Blading". It certainly was NOT on purpose. It was actually THAT bad
Whenever Albano would have these periodic grudge matches (while he was a manager) who would usually lose.
However, he would never lose by pin fall or submission. Was it because the suits thought that if he ever lost by pin or submission he would lose his stride as a very over heel manager?
Or was it just a coincidence that the outcome of his matches were scripted this way?
@MALANGA1 The idea was to make him look like a coward, which was how most "heel" wrestlers and managers worked back in the old days (cowardice = heat). Courageous heels are still a relatively new concept from over the past 20 years. When Albano wrestled back then, he ALWAYS bled and always ran out of the ring and back to the locker room. Standard operating procedure. (I know this is in response to a year old post, but I had to comment.)
@elc1960 True. Cowardice was a common heel characteristic in those days. It's funny how when a face would turn heel he would all of the sudden adopt those traits.
@MALANGA1 Funny how I seem to keep running into you on these wrestling video posts. We've got to stop meeting like this - people will begin to suspect (LOL). About the "face turning into heel" comment: how true that is, and the opposite when a heel would turn face; they would all of a sudden "grow a set" and start acting like a brave, bold super hero. "Champion of the oppressed" and all that.
thxs lou, miss you always, some was fake but to be bleeding real blood it takes alot to do and we know you always love to perform for the fans, you made my childhood fun
