ERRO is the truth...Peace & Productivity! & Thank you Rapheal Saadiq D'Angelo? (Godfather of Nu Classic Soul) Musiqsoulchild Anthony Hamilton Eric Benet Maxwell Will Downing Dave Hollister Carl Thomas JOE Dwele Raheem DaVaughn Calvin Richardson Bilal Please add to the list ....Much Love!
@victomewman06 & @mykinfoknew Eric did not say there were not albums better than those albums that you mentioned. He is speaking to rappers specifically making soul albums that are better than those of us who strictly sing and do not rapp. Dave, Carl, Joe, & Lalah are all singers and not rappers. tho they can sing ur pant off and skirts up you gotta give it to those rappers who sing and are making killer albums>>>>>Drake is killing em right now. Wouldnt consider his project a soul album tho.
@purpose408 I don't necessarily agree with that. I dont think that a plug in like auto tune (pitch correcter effect) defines what soul is or isn't. Yes it says alot about your vocal ability as an artist. But I think soul is also about not just vocal ability... but song writing ability as well. How well a song is written. Drake can write his ass off... Don't front on him. Give him some credit there. He wrote Un-Thinkable by Alicia Keys. That should at least let you know how good of a writer he is
@purpose408 For instance. Bob Dylan made a lot of great soul music. yes it was rock/bluesy music but you could still feel it. He was a great soul singer imo. He wrote soulful music. Did he have the greatest voice ever? Extremely far from it. He knew that as well... But your vocal ability shouldn't be the end all be all to the music you make. Jimi Hendrix also made dope soul music yes it was categorized as rock. But it was still soul. Vocals aren't everything.

I guess no one heard of Dave Hollister's Chicago '85...The Movie LOL or Carl Thomas' Emotional, or Joe's My Name is Joe. Aijuswannasing, Voodoo, Lalah Hathaway's Outrun the Sky, there were so many I can't even name. He's kind of being hyperbolic cause there were some great SOUL Albums over the past ten years. I know it's hard cause of the bullshit out there, but it's there!!! You need a damn sifter to find it though
@victornewman06 Really??? Trust me people are hearing about it it's just not on the mainstream (would you want it to be?). Neo Soul has a HUGE following in the UK and Europe.
@victornewman06 that is true but if you talking soul singers and platinum sales. Musiq Soulchild, Lauren Hill, Cee Lo, Floetry, Carl Thomas but Puff robbed him some,Jill Scott, and Erykha Badu. Some others i can't think of but Cee Lo sung first and so did Lauren Hill before they rapped. Also Dwele! That is it.
One thing people don't understand is TRUE artists that KNOW they possess an artform, they must hide it until it's time for it to be displayed. Hence, a lot of "rappers" grew up consumed and groomed in the arts. They aren't "dumb" and know how to pimp the system. People are surprised when they come out with albums where they are singing and such and what folks don't know is they've had it the whole time. Some do what they do b/c they may think it's what the public wants FIRST.
I've heard of him previously, but didn't really sit down and preview his albums until today. I came to the conclusion that he is amazing. I also his video dealing on VH1 soul. I will get all of his albums in the near future. I agree with AcousticUplift, he seems very real and genuine.
I appreciate what you're saying, and I think Andre and Cee-Lo are soulful, yet after you mention Lauryn Hill what about D'Angelo with Voodoo and Brown Sugar?
Lovely insightful interview. I have so much respect for Erro; apart from his underrated talent he seems like a genuinely sweet soul. Also have to agree with him on Andre 3000 and Cee-lo's contribution to soul music, never thought of it like that! The only other great soul albums I can think of from the past decade are by more obscure artists (but also respected by those in the know) such as Tonéx, Choklate (esp her debut) and Erro himself.
great fucking album. great fucking album. let me direct one your vidoes please before I die!

@TheVioletAura problem...drake is NOT a singer...and he is more pop than anything. auto tunes does not equal soul

I disagree. Hands down, Aijuswanasang comes 2nd to Miseducation of Lauryn.
Hands down. That album brought that organic soul back since D'angelo's voodoo album.
In my opinion.
