I didn't find Slowflake via plug... actually, I stumbled upon one of his videos by accident. It was his April Fools joke when he did an entire LP Red episode in French. I was intrigued, and I clicked.

Friend balls are great for easy happiness evos, since whatever you catch in them start at 200/255 happiness, whereas Luxury Balls only add a little more happiness per joyful event. (For trivia's sake, Buneary is captured in normal and Luxury pokeballs at 0/255 Happiness!)

In HGSS, I caught Lugia in a Heavy Ball, while alternating between Heavy and Dusk Balls, both of which worked fine.

I suppose so, if ELEVEN TIMES the regular catch rate still isn't enough for you, meaning the only way to do better is to hack limitless Master Balls. It is terrible on most stuff, yes, but the Pokémon that really matter tend to stay in Heavy Balls.

I'm trying to catch a good DV'd lugia in my pkmn silver softly reseting a lot and I found that it's much, much easier to get decent DV'd (or IV'd in III and IV gen) pokemon in those generations. Having just 1 DV for special helps a lot because increases the odds of having a good DV'd pokemon.

A plug is a way of advertising other videos, by recommending them in his videos. People ask him for them because he's a reasonably popular LPer, and if he recommends something, it's going to get more exposure.
