served onboard the " 'ville" from 94-96. I rode her to Haiti in '94 then to the Adriatic in '95. She will be decomissioned on September 30 2009. Though some hated the ville, I enjoyed my time.

I spent 2 years on the Crashville back in 87-89. Was a knuckle dragging BT in the forward engine room. BT2 (SW) Thompson. Hello out there to all the snipes and thanks to all miltiary for serving this great country!

I was on board from 6/83 to 12/84. I got to run the throttle in #1 (in training) toward the end. I wish I could remember the BT on blowers when we were underway. I remember him coming to the ladder grinning after we had gone through a throttle sequence. He was watching the stack, air/fuel mixture (mod-D type) while I was aggravating him with the throttles. They all were good and did there jobs. Propulsion was a tight group.

I spent 18 months on the Nashville. We went through a yard period in Suffolk. I was forward engine room messenger when we had that little booboo with the tower. Everybody did there job and it worked out. Was that the 80's? Former DCPO and MM3 Ward.

I just looked at your profile and saw you were British. Flange head is slang term for Machinist Mates. Machinist Mates basicly make sure the ship goes by operating and maintaining the main engines and critical systems. Engineers in general ar refered to as Snipes. There are two types of snipes, Pit Snipes work in the hot and nasty Main Machinery Room (MMR) and the Fresh air snipes fix anything mechanical not in the engine room. You know us Americans are always insulting someone even ourselves

Aft engine room. I spent a few months there after about a year in #1 between the med cruise right before and gitmo right after. I was laying on the deck in our berthing compartment watching t.v. when the Marine barracks in Lebanon was bombed and am still a "little" pissed.
