  • ive been to afghanistan i did one tour and now i am back home i am a corporal

  • I was in the Royal Canadian Dragoons in Germany back in the 80s when we had the Leopards there. I can't help wondering if any of the Leos in these photos are tanks that I actually served in. They've been updated a lot since then, but still the same vehicles.

I also spent 2 years in the Strathcona's before going to Germany.

    Thanks for posting this.

    Perseverance

  • @hoozat007

I actually wouldn't be surprised if many of those tanks were the same. You would have been using the C1 turret, while the ones in the video are the C2 turret. Many of the "old timers" that were there with us were mentioning the age of the tanks were well into there 30's

  • @ckrangle

Yeah. I worked in callsigns 24C and 22C as a loader/operator, and 2A (B Sqn commander), and 92 as a driver. It's not likely that the same hulls would still be used as the same C/S now after all these years, after the upgrades, and with a different regiment.

Still great to see them again.

  • does america have their abrams in afghanistan. I'm enlisted as a USMC tanker, and not sure if i'll be going, because i haven't seen any videos of our tanks over there.

    thx

  • hey man, when I was there the US Military had no tanks in Afghanistan. As far as I know that hasn't changed. I could be wrong though.

  • huh, i might change my MOS if thats the case. However they could also throw me on an APC. Anyways, thx for your input.

  • @ckrangle only Light us armor units are over there, ie, marine LAVs, and US ARMY stykers, No 'heavy units' have been committed to the fight according to the new direction the top army brass is going, the belief that heavy tanks and bradley IFVs are too heavy and crumbersome in the mountian and rugged Afghan terrain. Most likely you will leave your tanks in the US and deploy to Iraq as a light infantry unit.

  • @str8up87

not sure what you are refering to.

This is a Canadian Forces unit, not a US unit.

The images in the video are from Afghanistan, and were taken by ME and members of B Squadron. The Canadian Forces deployed TANKS to Afghanistan in 2006 and have continued to rotate tank squadrons since then.

We currently have very little to no operations in IRAQ and have no plans for that A/O.

  • @ckrangle Did Canada deploy any troops to Iraq?

  • @triumph1974 well, the easiest answer would be no. However, there have been canadian soldiers who have served in Iraq. Oddly enough the current CDS (Gen Natynczyk) served as the Dep Commander of 35000 US troops in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

As well, it is widely known, yet not confirmed nor denied by the Cdn Gov't, in 2006 JTF2 units along with other Spec Ops units performed a hostage rescue of 2 Canadians and 1 Briton in Iraq.

In short, no troops as a frontline combat role.

  • @triumph1974 During the first war, 1990, 1991. But not during the second Irag war. though there are rummors of JTF2 activites there but the goverment never comments on shadow war. Black ops I think is the U.S. Term. JTF2 operations are top secret and rightly so.

  • How many Leopards have been sent to Afghanistan by Canada.. I've heard this is the best tank in the world.

  • we had to scrape up a squadron of the old leo1's(19 tanks). And it 2007, the New Leopard2A6M CAN's arrived and their are 19 of those plus 2 or 3 Buffels to keep them running. :) Wonderful tanks, I hope I can fight in one someday. :)

  • Good to hear the Leopard 2A6M's have arrived..hopefully they will prove themselves in battle..Scare the shit out of some Taliban.

  • as much as they love gravy, they did a damn good job at paving the way, i tell ya what..

  • we try sometimes :p

  • Kitty Cannon

  • Your profile says you are 20 years old. You are a LIAR. IF you are 20, you can't be a Captain with three tours under your belt. On top of that, NO self respecting Officer of the PPCLI would post it not capitalized.

  • well said

  • is there a tank squadrin in winnipeg Manitoba?

  • There is Lord Strathcona's Horse operating out of Edmonton Alberta, and it has 3 Armoured Squadrons and 1 Recce Squadron. The Royal Canadian Dragoons operates from CFB Petawawa (I think) and is a recce regiment, so it does not operate tanks. I think that with the New purchase(leopard 2's_=), one of the Squadrons will convert to Armor, but that is in the air.

  • @ckrangle where is this sqn posted ?

  • @MrEhFromCanada

hey buddy, the regiment is based out of CFB Edmonton in Alberta.

  • @cf80to01 Exactly, he wouldn't even be half way through ROTP, he so decided to take route when the offer was suggested/given.

  • What a load of bs. And it's PPCLI not ppcli.

  • bullshitter go home. you cant even join the military until ur 18 over there. i joined the british army at 16 and it saddens me to think there are sad fuckers like you out there. never actually done a tour have you?

  • youre also an idiot because we can join at 17, and reserves at 16, not 18

  • didnt the 3rd battalion ppcli send a sniper team to afghanistan in 2002 and had the longest record sniper kill?

  • hmmm, you're profile says you're a 20yr old from kingston haha

  • could they have gone with coyotes then? cuz there not tanks they are armoured vehicles/

  • They did go in Coyotes. No one has ever debated that

  • Then how is it there is pics of my dad there with tanks in afghanistan?

  • Like I just said, it could have been another countries tank or old russian tanks that were left behind.

  • My dad was in with tanks when he went i have pictures.

  • Start doing your research. Read any news report or access to information file. Canadian troops did not bring tanks to Afghanistan until 2006 on my roto. There may have been other vehicles that you are mistaking for tanks or quite possibly old russian tanks that were left behind.

I am not saying your dad was not there in 2002. We were there in 2002... just not with tanks!

  • Tanks going to Afghanistan after all

OTTAWA -- Less than three weeks after denying it was sending Leopard tanks to Afghanistan, the Canadian military is set to ship as many as 20 of the heavy tracked armoured vehicles to Kandahar.

Although the tanks have been used once overseas on a peace support mission in Kosovo in the 1990s, this is the first time they will be sent into an actual combat situation.

  • The Lord Strathcona's first deployed to Afghanistan in 2002 and I should know that cuz that is when my dad went and they were the first to go. and they got combat operations pins cuz they were the first strathcona's to do anything like this since the Korean War.

  • B Sqn in 2006 were the first Strathcona's to deploy with TANKS in a combat role since the Korean war. I was on the tour.

  • Nothing gives me such a big fucking hard on until you hear our Panzers rolling over the hills. God bless them.

  • Is Jimmy Nogood still in strat land?

  • is that Walt playing santa?

  • hahaha, yup

  • Looks like u had a blast... Just wish w had our CR2 out there.. That would sort the men from the taliban!!LOL

  • cute little kitty lol

  • you even got a photo of dutch tankers :D

  • Great vid guys keep up the good work!! Im joining up as armoured, how do you get in the tanks? Do you start off in the LAV then move up to the tank or is it just where ever there is an open spot? Thanks! Stay Safe

  • CF posts you where your needed. You might go Armor Recee you might get in a MBT. You get your orders and ship out :P. All you can do is ask for Armor and if there is an opening you'll go doesn't mean you'll be a crew member of a Leo though.

  • nice video chuck your still gay.

  • yeah... well, I'm trying haha

  • Great video, just one question, how did the guy at 3:50 pass the physical?

  • he's got alot of gear on. He's pretty fit.

  • whats the name of the song?

  • U2, New Yrs Day

  • thx

  • about time our goverment decided to buy new tanks. but the milita units are fucking stuck with crapy G wagons. we need a full scale rearming for the army

  • it's in the works. gwagon still beats an iltis... step in the right direction :)

  • well... at least they showed some sense in buying quality stuff (leo2a6m) for the boys in brown

  • I see B Sqn managed to get a few photos in the 1 month they actually left KAF..LOL...not like us who were out for 7 months...

  • hey gratto, how about you finish a fucking tour for once?

  • Sorry, not Gratto, Give it up folks, It was a comment between A and B SQn pers that happened there and will happen over and over again for years. You, me or anyone else will not change that despite what comments are said here or at work.

  • chill out man. last time I checked we were all on the same team, same mission, and same place.

  • 2 Oct 07 AMERICANS in IRAQ admit that their BEST TANKS were never designed to survive IED's buried beneath a road!!

And the IED's are getting bigger.

  • so what are we doing with our leopard c2 tanks when we get thenew leopard' 2's are the old ones just going to be come hard targets for training or we still going to use them ?

  • we are still using the c2's overseas along with the new ones. it will be a mix for a bit and then just the new ones. I believe we're keeping most of the c2's for training.

  • I wonder instead of using LEO II variants like bridge layer, engeineering version and the recovery vechile just use the C2's for those roles and keep all the LEO II's as MBTs? Maybe the C2's are too old..plus in a few years I think no parts will be made for them any longer.

  • that cat on the gun ha ha

  • soo are we the only country with tanks in afghanistan?

  • yes

  • Thats pretty cool i didn't know that

  • That's not actually true. The Danish Army has Leopards there too as well, if you look it up.

  • Well, I know as of a a few months ago we were the only ones. I could very well be wrong, but perhaps those are our tanks as we acquired the first bunch on lease from someone that already had them.

If you know some sources could you pass them on to me. thanks

  • Hooeh, great video. I'm applying to LdSH(RC) when I'm in the forces, which hopefully will happen very soon.

  • Thanks, that was a really great video. My husband was over there with you as well, he was in one of the pics.

  • Did marv loose weight over there?

  • hey chuck man i love this video nice choice of music too :)

  • Good video bud. At the end there Walker looke like a sex criminalk with a moustache :)
