If you're having trouble with measuring the detailed lines on the gun, try : once you've cut out the main shape, using permanent marker to soak through the paper onto both sides, and use a pin or pencil to make the lines of the main details on both sides though the paper.

Then it's just a matter of connecting the dots, and the littler details can be added after.

this is a really cool way to make props that i had not thought of. i use pepakura (im a begging if you look at my vids) and ive always had problems with guns so im really looking forward to trying this thanks alot man. also try to get google sketch up because sometime you can find really HD files for guns so you can see the nuks and cranys alot better. just a suggestion

Well i finnaly got to a hardware store, They didnt have foam or much for insulation. Then we went somewhere else that did have foam but... its like you could hold it out and it would bend.

Is the foam you used like.. really dense?

and then also it seemed hard to imagine cutting diagonally through the ones i found :/

@lunarknightlucian the Styrofoam is an insulation material. i got it from an insulation store here in New Zealand. but it is an international material just may be called something different. its proper name is "extruded polystyrene" so ask around hardware stores and they should tell you. the knife cost me 20cents from a food store. i use one every 30 mins so im always cutting the gun with a sharp blade
