@jwb864 ????? we get paid to much where the hell are you talking about you wanna know how much we make where im from im a fulltime firefighter and i make around 1800 a month and i dont know how you get only 5% of the time we are working look up calls a year on diff fire departments and see how many calls they go on in a year
After the upstairs window is broken out by the firefighter smoke billows out, and shortly thereafter seems to be getting sucked back in. My understanding is that is one characteristic of an impending backdraft explostion. Can someone here who has the expertise to read this video say if that's actually happening or if I'm just reading some amateur expectations into it?
tell tale sign of potential backdraft conditions - smoke being forced out through cracks such as between the door and frame, dense smoke.. great video be safe out there
Wow I found a video for my smoke reading class... Im glad this didnt kill anyone this is one of those situations that just taking the time to look at the fire conditions and using proper PPE and your training, could have been avoided... But one of those fire's complacency kill's. I could be an ass and say do this or do that but nobody deserves that especially from some asshole that wasn't there. Sometimes shit just happens. Use your training and Be safe brothers. great video of a bad day!
I do not believe that it is ever the right solution to open windows and roofs. We handle it different here, and belive me, we never had flashovers or so... sorry, but they brought it to that point only cause of more oxygen in the house... stupid I think...
@froebinho so you guys get to all your fires before they are fully developed. you guys must have an awesome response time in your district since a flashover and a backdraft are two very different events. 15 yrs on the job, go back to the academy kid and learn your terminology
I cant say Ive never fought fire without the proper PPE, but we all go home to our families first and foremost!! When you are in command of a scene make your firefighter wear SCBA'S. If they dont like they will get over it when they see something like this happen first hand. We dont get paid enough to do what we do but we can aleast do all we can to ensure everyone goes home alive!!!
@jwb864 Could care less??? You are the one that came on YouTube, posted the statement (and I directly quote from you because the spelling and usage is atrocious): " fire fighter are over paid you guys dop nothing 95 percent of the time.. all fire fighter should be voliteer" Don't come to YouTube and dismiss someone who throws the B.S. Flag at your simple-minded posts, man up and back up your statement.
back draft... clues the brown smoke to start. then at the very beginning if you look at the top of the door how the smoke is kinda puffing out in spurts. look at the black film over the windows on the inside. unfortunately its one of those things that get you no matter you experience and had they not opened up the lower part of the house usually if you ventilate the higher parts of the house via the top window or cutting holes in the roof its usually less explosive of an ignition.
@tbonetwood1 it didnt look like they ventilated at the roof but it does look like one fireman did bust out a top window.. but i guess it just didnt ventilate it enoug, but that kinda stuff happens sometimes.. as a fireman we gotta be prepared for anything
@redneck123623 its easy for me to sit here and say hey look at this that and the other and say what happened. and now it doesn't look like they ventilated the roof to me either. yeah they did bust out the top window but they also opened the downstairs door. in a back draft situation you want to ventilate high and let it com bust first before entering low. that leaves less chance of the explosion you see here but like you said you just kinda gotta go prepared and deal with what comes
@redneck123623 but obviously you dont get the luxury of that time when on scene. it just wound up a crappy situation that could had been worse and just glad it wasnt.
Hello Back Draft very little fire to start with heavy smoke because the fire is not getting enough oxygen to ignite once the fire gets oxygen you get ALOT of fire in a BIG Hurry hence the name Back Draft. Very tough type of fire to fight very bad to ventilate.. How do I know this... I am a FIRE FIGHTER apparently guy taping from house... CLASSIC backdraft Ventilated big boom lots of FIRE
My question is this..... Why was this person recording a fire THIS close to the involved structure? Did he ignore evac? Ya good footage... BAD common sense.
Damn! That scared the hell out of me! Those guys were very lucky their injuries weren't more serious. A very real lesson in the dangers these guys face every day.

BROWN SMOKE! DANGER-DANGER!! This is why we wear flash hoods and masks when we come onto the scene. This video is a painful reminder of that. :(

In a backdraft there is a ignition of the gasses and smoke. Here the smoke justs builds up pressure and releases with no ignition.

were there any holes cut in the roof before they started going at it from the door and windows?
