your right for the most part. there is no tuning, it is perfectly in tune. its just you need to have really good intonation to play it really well--adjusting as you go to get the pitch right.

@khupido1n2 Theremins don't get "tuned" in the same sense as most instruments do. This is because they produce a continuous interval of frequencies rather than only the 12 semitones per octave that most instruments can manage, so they're never really "out of tune." They can be adjusted to change the fingering distances, though. These things are just really hard to play, is all. =)

As a thereminist myself, I know how hard it is to get the "exact" pitch of the note as your hand is moving ever so slightly in the air and also there are no references other than feel. For theremin playing to be out of tune is the same concept as singing being out of tune. You don't tune the theremin; the intonation is just a result of your sense of pitch and your skill. Notice that most players use a lot of vibrato to try to be sure they hit the exact pitch sometime.
