Lovely, i am a lefty too, with huge callus on, my upper teeth are a bit pushed forward, i blve its genetics bt my lower lips r pushed inside due to the way i rest my thumb on them. My thumbsucking nw is all about power i believe its al because i wana satisfy my heart that i am incontrol, cos my mum realy gav me hell when i was 5. I learned to hide, switch thumbs whch i sucked in order to nt b caught cos i'd hav callus on both my thumbs and she'd knw. I dnt thnk i wl eva quit, i am 24yrs

I applaud you and your bravery. I'm a 33 year old thumb sucker myself and have tried for years to stop. I've been doing this all my life and am ashamed at times, but the more I see and hear about more adults that do this, I don't feel so alone. Sometimes it's hard for me to stop, but at least I've stopped chewing on my fingernails. Now to stop the thumb. :D KUDOS to you for sharing. Keep it up!

I am respectfully asking these questions: How was your Speech growing up? How were your teeth? Do you have tongue thrust issues with speaking. My son tried sucking his thumb as an infant (he is 4 now) and I pulled his thumb out and swaddled him tightly. He is not thumbsucker. I grew up with several people who were thumbsuckers and had significant speech and dental issues.

I'm 21 as i stated. I still suck my thumb. I dont have any of these problems. my mother never stopped me because it had no effect on me or my sister. my teeth have been stright my whole life. i sucked a pacifier until i was thirteen. but never my thumb i remember being about ten and asking my cousin why she sucked her thumb and she just said she didn't know so i said lets trade so we did and she said it wasn't the same and i said the same my thumb was salty and odd compared to the pacifier. she is 23 now and still sucks her thumb, i am 16 but i don't anymore, i decided to quit on my own when i was 13.

Great Title! And I cannot believe what I see! Greetings from Germany. I THSed until 25 then stopped for approx. two decades then restarted. And yes, with one finger in circles on my nose but without cloth, and I am 52 now! Amazing! Shame on me LOL! I am addicted to health and fitness and I never smoke, and I drink very little. I am grateful that my teeth did not become malpositioned through THS!

I have NEVER smoked...and never done drugs. My family are totally accepting of the fact that i am not going to stop now and even if I slip up and suck my thumb at work, no one bats an eyelid. it is just part of who i am.

Parents constantly tell me how infantile I look sucking my thumb, and tell me how wrong it is and I should be ashamed because no one else does it.

I told them there were hundreds of adults that still do it and they wouldn't hear me out.

I'm lucky I have this method of calming down, no one else in my family understands how soothing it is, how much stress it can take off.

If smokers are allowed to smoke, we should be allowed to suck our thumbs, because it's NOT hurting anyone.
