Elfen Lied is like a beautiful sad violent version of Chobits. Those who have watched both series will know what I mean. Its a great show, just very angsty and very sad.
Elfen lied is definitely not hentai but it is ecchi and the nudity is still clearly made for the pleasure of viewers, remember that. of course, that is not its ONLY purpose and certainly doesn't detract from its uniqueness as an anime, but I don't think it's entirely "pure" or "innocent" as people seem to think, it's more like very emotional fanservice (or fan-disservice). Whether that's a weakness or a strength is up to each viewer.

The ending of this Anime will always suck because this show was finished before the manga was done. The show fails to go into depth in explaining many things the manga does. But the beginning was bad-ass.
Gotta say makes you feel like your in a dark castle. Just walking around in sadness and sarrow. Man I would love to do that just walking around a dark castle with this echoing in the halls. Just wouldnt know what to feel. Its just amazing.
I don't know about everyone else but i would rather them leave the anime at season one because they made it a possibilty for lucy surviving and leave the rest to your imagination.

@xomfor they won't make a season 2 because there is no plot for it(unfortunately). what i mean is that, in the manga(which, obviously, is what the anime is based on) Nyu/lucy dies-end of story. in the anime, it almost seems as if she survived. however, the author of Elfen Lied is done with the story, and without her a second season isn't possible(which sucks).
I'm pretty sick of people saying this is Hentai. I've watched Hentai, Hentai is NOTHING like Elfen Lied. Elfen Lied is beautiful and sad and well acted and well paced. Hentai is sloppy with terrible voice acting and awkward drawings.

I remember when I first found out about Elfen Lied. I was listening to the song "Monster" by Meg and Dia and in the related videos it said "Monster-Elfen Lied" with a picture of a cute anime girl. So I clicked on it and read the description, which warned me that it was very gory...then I saw the amv and it had some exploding person with their guts and bones going everywhere...(which I now know was Saito) I'm not really sure why I decided to watch this, but I'm so glad!
I thought those were cat ears at first, I later found out that they are 'horns'

Which is why if you read any Latin, you can tell or at least connect with the words to our English language. Other languages became used more frequently so Latin just died down. It's about a mutant species of humans called Diclonius that have Telekinetic abilities, which they kill people with. Lots and lots of blood, so you might want to refrain from watching if you're squeamish XD

The value of life in people's eye can vary just as much as their fingerprint. For Lucy, in her upside down world who knows how she calculated the value of life. But it certainly wasn't Intelligence and Personality in her eyes.

Huh, when the saints sing it sounds like they say "Aqua Sancta" at first, which means "holy water", and then it sounds like they actually say "O quam sancta.
(I don't think it's their accent, because they say it right later)

YEAH. I remember the way I found out about this anime I watched an amv, and I was CLUELESS about the whole plot.
and Im like...wtf? Neko-girls blowing shit up with there minds?
Then LATER. Im like "Oh shit, I was wrong. There not neko-girls. There angry blood thirsty pink haired girls with cat shaped horns ripping people apart with there invisible arms called vectors"

It's about a mutant species of humans called Diclonius that have Telekinetic abilities, which they kill people with. Lots and lots of blood, so you might want to refrain from watching if you're squeamish XD

Not telekinetic. The Diclonius use Vectors (invisible hands). Usually they only have 4, but there is one who has 26. (i believe it was 26...)

@raerae94 actually their race wasnt meant for violence though, they were meant to replace humans through the virus that all of them had (obviously except lucy), it was only because the scientists experimented on them and tortured them while the subjects begged for mercy was the reason they went psycopathic/sociopathic

i finished the series and i felt soo sad becuz it was so short i cried the first time I saw Mariko's death i wish i had the manga :( the anime teaches you so much

people>puppies...intelligence and personality determines the value of a creature...some of the people that were killed were innocent but it was still okay to kill them because they would hate if they had the chance, but some of the people that died were worth so much because of their personality, like Mariko's father

The value of life in people's eye can vary just as much as their fingerprint. For Lucy, in her upside down world who knows how she calculated the value of life. But it certainly wasn't Intelligence and Personality in her eyes.

if violence is necessary to maintain reality and order, then it is not wrong...and being strong enough to do the correct thing in a situation where you may have to die or suffer doesn't require a conscious understanding of what you're doing...it's when you fully understand the risks you're taking that you are really brave...fools cannot be brave, those who fully understand what they are fighting for and are still willing to die are the brave ones...people and emotions are not equal

depends on the situation :) life, death, and the nature of life and whether or not you deserve to live, is a very serious topic...basically, when speaking of something so important, you cannot place consequences into an abstract framework, but must think in terms of what is true and what does not hold up to the scrutiny of reality...you're taking this very hard, and i doubt that you really understand what it is that i am saying, and probably never will...go read some Nietzsche please <3

You seem to believe that the right to live is based on very careful and serious judgments that are unique to each situation. (Forgive me if I misunderstood.) On the other hand, I believe that the right to live cannot be judged at all, under any circumstances.
No, we would probably not end up coming to an agreement if we kept debating. But that's alright. Just don't treat your opinion like absolute fact, that's all I ask. Leave a little room for other people's opinions-- they are valid too.

1: If you poeple can't tolerate something being killed, either look away, or do something about it. Bitching and playing "Poor Me" don't get you very far.
