Why are there so many people getting sucked into the bullshit about Fripp's sexual orientation, but nobody's complaining about this being only half of the goddamn song??
@xsoireg According to one poster it's the masterfull musicianship of Robert Fripp....LOL! 'Well said' nevertheless. A fine assesment of Mr. F's talents!
I think Fripp is just another great musician like Elton John and Freddie Mercury, but his music is good even though people know that secretly he is gay. I know he is married to Toyah but that is just a cover like Elton's marriage to a woman so that straight people will buy his music.
This is in fact, King Crimson. That is John Wetton on vocals, the sound is somewhat distorted probably due to the recording limitations of the time. As for Robert Fripp being gay, people have too much time on their hands when they, confronted with the masterfulness of Fripp's musicianship can only come up with, "he's gay and hasn't come out yet" . For what its worth the last I heard he was married to Toyah Wilcox....
Stravisky, Gershvin, Thaikowski and other guys, Fripp and Kinf Crimosn, Doors, Pink Floyd, ELP, NICe, Mcdonald and Gliilles projects, they are all there forever, and simple rosk is bullchit in conparison with them. They really elevated rock to new artistic creidbility, broke those simple boundaries.

This isn't Crimson, though the cover sounds, not like a band doing their original interpretation of it, but a Crimso-mania cover (ie-- sound as much like Crimso as possible). The guitar line was only on the studio version, recorded after the last Crimso gig-- on every live '74 recording I've heard the violin played the line. At any rate, it's great to see so many people keyed into the real issue, which of course is whether or not Fripp is gay. Did you know Yoko broke up King Crimson?
You Trolls are having such a gay time you are missing the fact that this is not Fripp and Company. The audience seems to know the lyrics. NoOne knew the lyrics to this new song presented in concert that wasn't recorded until the NEXT version of KC was recorded and aborted. The singer looses his imitation of Wetton often and the lead guitar has a completely OFF, albeit interesting, tone.
p.s. Fripp has a sister in SanFrancisco and visits her often!
Fripp is not gay. Fripp has a wife and has been married for many years. If you still are a self conscious asswipe check out the frippitronics videos where he tors with his wife! Get a life idiots!
Silly human, silly human race. Be aware of the one with aim. It is the closest any of you will get to the horned one before he rips your meaningles flesh and reaps your helpless soul.
Thanks for posting. It might be better to start the slideshow with the Red cover since this song isn't on Starless and Bible Black, it might throw people off but it doesn't really matter. Agreed on the live performances, sometimes Bruford was playing with a broken high hat or whatever, Fripp on a new tangent, different but great. Out of all my old favorites, King Crimson's studio albums have stood the test of time the best, even better than my beloved Selling England By The Pound

I also have my doubts if this is really KC. Did anyone actually see them playing Starless live like that, meaning with guitar playing the solo at the beginning and not violin?
in the studio version of this, the melodic line at the begining is played by the guitar-anyway D.Cross doesn't play at all in it. On various live versions which all preceeded the studio recording, sometimes RF plays the mellotron, letting DC handle the melodic line, but mostly the opposit happens: RF plays the part on the guitar and DC plays the mellotron.
For the Time period here (1974), things could have sounded a lot worse and I have heard a lot worse than this. This sounds like a sound board recording (better than any audience recording). Crimson had many issues with the Mellotron and Monitors and instruments staying tuned up and traveling from city to city each day. For what it's worth... just enjoy this as a period piece from 1974.
have you listened to the GREAT DECEIVER live KC collection, by this particular line- up? hardly anything in it sounds ''perfect''. by RF's own admission, the KC was a beast too hard to control...
Hence..." rough edges", were part of the character of this KC period...especially in live performances.
Actually I prefer those wild harmonies to the "right" ones, (until 3'30)... But it doesn't really matter since Crimson put more tension and drama in other tracks and improvs than in Starless.
I agree with you. I think what made KC so popular was the Improvs and that they hardly ever played their standard songs the same way from concert to concert.

I cannot believe that we are nearly in 2010 and some of you out there really think it matters whether Fripp is gay or not! Firstly it's irrelevant, the man is a proven creative genius and has sustained a diverse and compelling career in a difficult profession for over forty years now and second who cares....really guys - grow up!
@MrOfficerbear um... like you said... 'not that it matters'... but I believe he's married. I saw a video of him with his wife here on yt, so unless they're divorced & he's gay now... I'm just sayin'... 'not that it matters' ; )
@TruthAxe Well, you obviously know every disorder there is from you inbred, fucked up personal experience. Crawl back under your rock, die and rot, redneck pig.
@TruthAxe You find truth amusing? Well, some people are easily amused. Those with room-temperature IQ. Rage? It's called "calling a spade a spade," look it up if you cranium allows storing over 400 words. "Mommy and daddy" - what are you, 4? Now go ahead and explain what "hmosexism" is in your imaginary world, illiterate degenerate.
@TruthAxe Anger? It must be something you project, not surprising for a closet case - hiding desires behind hate and "tough guy" words like "pole smoker". Every closet case does that, but some grow balls and come out, and others troll to vent their misery - check the mirror. No anger. When I see a red car, I call it a red car; when I see you, I call you an illiterate degenerate. I mean, you type and see a red underline and can't even figure out something's wrong - a textbook imbecile.
Here's what happened to you. During your youth, you became OCD obsessed with a same-sex playmate, a clear reflection of mind disorder. It is the same OCD/addiction mechanism that has you stuck on queer sex thoughts.
You're suffering from mind disorder hence mental illness, albeit a relatively harmless one.
Worse for you, your incessant name calling reveals other deficiencies including a mediocre IQ as name calling is the method of argument for the lame in mind.
@MrOfficerbear Amen. Besides, he's been married to Toyah for ages, and if you saw her in her heyday, you can only eat your heart out, she was HOT - still is, for her age.

I still like Fripp's music even though he is a homosexual. But what I really like is dislike for black people and vowed to never have a black person in his band and he has stuck with this for over 40 years, so far.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You know you may be on to something that I never thought of... in over 40 years Fripp never played with or ever had a black person in King Crimson or any other band he was in. This is somewhat interesting.
Ok Tina, 'strange" enough, there hasn't been a white guy in Earth, Wind and Fire nor Commodores, nor Ohio Players, nor Public Enemy. And somehow it doesn't seem to be strange nor interesting to me at all. And don't get me wrong, I also love those bands, but I also think nobody gives a damn if they hadn't. Peace.

Robert fripp was a gay jew like you, that's why you like him.The jewish system promoted his subculture and he become famous, exactly as woody allen, spielberg and so many other talentless jews parasitizing in foreign countries.Jews brothers, kain and abel, aynan and jewish bullshit.
he has a mild voice and i can't hear any lisp, but even if there was one, what does that mean? lots of people dress smartly too, since when is that an indication of homo tentencies ? and what do you mean "he hangs around with homos"? have you seen him in a gay bar or something ? i think you are here, just to annoy KC and RF admirers.
BTW, I used to work in a gay bar in N.Y.C. as a barmaid and most of the homosexual men acted just like Fripp. Fancy Clothes, cross their legs like women, talk with a lisp and be pissed off (just like Fripp) when someone takes their picture.
@TinaFallis TinaPhallus, you're just frustrated because you can't get any, both your parents ignore you, you inbred hick. You probably haven't seen even a postcard of N.Y.C. in your Pigsville, KY (or Cowshitburg, TN?)
@TinaFallis ...weird, Tina Fallis sounds a little like tiny phallus...maybe that has something to do with why you're so fucked up...I actually don't give a shit...I think you have no life and pissing people off that are smarter than you makes you happy, how fucking pathetic is that?
@cathoderoy Gordon Haskell was the singer, and... not black. They auditioned Peter Straker around this time (1970) and that may be what you are thinkg of.
this song live is good and should be the song of choice after a few drinks on a saturday night , in front of a fire on a winter's evening snugged up with some one you really love, then play the studio version(from the album) of this..... see what happens..
When and where was the coniption? Merely pointing out that Fripp is a guy who loves to talk. Haven't seen him talk about this as part of his life though it seems like a discussion that he would be open and willing to have.
The connections to Liberace and Rock Hudson are less than useless since those men lived in a very, very different culture.
As to "reading the internet." Guessing you mean do some searches on terms like "Robert Fripp" and "gay" or "homosexual". Just did 'em. Nada.
So being married to Toyah Wilcox since 1986 is just a big cover thing?
Fripp loves, absolutely loves, to talk about Fripp. Wouldn't it seem obvious that he would have spent the last 20 years talking about this very same thing?
For a guy who loves to talk and loves to be seen to be living on the progressive edge of culture (not to be confused with progressive rock), he would have spilt these beans years ago.
This is ironic because you know that recently on "Elephant Talk" there was an open forum talking about Fripp's life style. They talked about the same thing, then an hour later all traces of this talk was deleated. I feel that Fripp is hiding something about himself---- Snappy Dresser + Slim Build + Talks with a Lisp + Never ever seen with women or even talking about them = ___ . (Fill in the blank!)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Don't get me wrong, I do like the music of King Crimson but I feel that Robert Fripp will take this issue to the grave with him like Rock Hudson and Liberace did, because he is a capitalist and probably feels that it might hurt his music sales.
Who give's a fuk if Fripp is gay. Is this all you people have to look forward to in your misrable pathetic live's, is to chastize and ridacule someone just b/c of their sexual preference? Y'all are some god damn homophobe's and y'all really need to get out from under that fuking rock that you so proudly hide your self's under and join the real world. Wot are ya so scared of? you afriad that Robert is gonna make you gay?
@Dyerfan1979 Amen. Besides, he's been married to Toyah for ages, and if you saw her in her heyday, you can only eat your heart out, she was HOT - still is, for her age.

Elton John was once married to a woman from Munich but he still is a peter puffer. He came out of the closet and was chastised for a while. Bob Fripp is still in the closet. Same = Same

I agree with you about Robert Fripp being a homosexual. I mean he is very egotistical, essentric and talks with a lisp. Add that up and what do you get! Everybody hints at it and he always denies it. I think the world will only find out when he dies like Rock Hudson and Liberace did. Maybe that's what makes his music so good, because he's constantly hiding his homosexuality.
@hhhankster WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? He's NOT gay, he doesn't talk w/ a lisp, and what the fuck do you think "essentric" means? It means you're a fucking idiot, that's what it means....
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I remember hearing about this incident also. But there is never any mention about this on any of King Crimson's websites. The real point is that we all know that Robert Fripp is gay, especially with that silly homoish voice. But we knew, in the 70s that Liberace, Elton John and Robert Fripp were gay. We just enjoyed their music for what is was.
I remember going to see this group back in the early 70's. I always tried to get tickets (and money) to see them in the midwest. I went to about 8 shows, and each show was different because of the improvs and the regular songs always being played different. I couldn't get enough of this group. I was totally hooked on their sound and their concerts. I missed this show in Michigan, but I'd love to hear more of it. Please write to me on my You Tube site, I'm sure we can make some kind of a deal.
I was at a Crimson Concert once and Fripp asked the crowd what they wanted to hear and a guy yells out Rodney Toady. Then Fripp says, "No, We don't play that one anymore".....
It was a hot night, one of those crazy magical summer nights.
We actually met Bruford outside about 2 hours before the gig and he said something about trying a new drum approach to Starless and you can hear it in this recording.
WOW, this takes me way back. Thanks so much for posting this. I cant believe its the show I was at. Also, Wetton's bass playing was at his best for this show. He's never sounded better.

MrOfficerbear 2 years ago 40
@MrOfficerbear um... like you said... 'not that it matters'... but I believe he's married. I saw a video of him with his wife here on yt, so unless they're divorced & he's gay now... I'm just sayin'... 'not that it matters' ; )
Lightmane321 1 year ago
@MrOfficerbear - right on!
Actually Fripp's married to an english actress and singer... and yeah, its perfectely irrelevant, the man is brilliant.
anushkababe 1 year ago
@MrOfficerbear It matters. If Fripp is gay, that means he's a homosexist, which of course, means he suffers from a fetish and thus a mind disorder.
Thus anything he writes gets infected by his mind disorder, his fetish of hmosexism.
TruthAxe 1 year ago
@TruthAxe Well, you obviously know every disorder there is from you inbred, fucked up personal experience. Crawl back under your rock, die and rot, redneck pig.
gormarx 1 year ago
You amuse, @gormarx.
Mere words triggered uncontrolled rage in your mind that your mind went into fantasy hallucination and Tourette's like name calling.
Look at you go!
I'd enjoy to meet your mommy and daddy to see what pieces of works they must be. You know, gormax, apples fall near the tree.
Keep amusing me. Free entertainment that dances when commanded always provides much fun.
TruthAxe 1 year ago
@TruthAxe You find truth amusing? Well, some people are easily amused. Those with room-temperature IQ. Rage? It's called "calling a spade a spade," look it up if you cranium allows storing over 400 words. "Mommy and daddy" - what are you, 4? Now go ahead and explain what "hmosexism" is in your imaginary world, illiterate degenerate.
gormarx 1 year ago
You amuse, @gormarx . Again!
Look at you go, still angry, still reaching! Oh how you amuse. What's the matter, poor-minded gormax? Are you a pole smoker?
TruthAxe 1 year ago
@TruthAxe Anger? It must be something you project, not surprising for a closet case - hiding desires behind hate and "tough guy" words like "pole smoker". Every closet case does that, but some grow balls and come out, and others troll to vent their misery - check the mirror. No anger. When I see a red car, I call it a red car; when I see you, I call you an illiterate degenerate. I mean, you type and see a red underline and can't even figure out something's wrong - a textbook imbecile.
gormarx 1 year ago
Most amusing, @gormarx.
TruthAxe 1 year ago
@MrOfficerbear Amen. Besides, he's been married to Toyah for ages, and if you saw her in her heyday, you can only eat your heart out, she was HOT - still is, for her age.

I still like Fripp's music even though he is a homosexual. But what I really like is dislike for black people and vowed to never have a black person in his band and he has stuck with this for over 40 years, so far.

You know you may be on to something that I never thought of... in over 40 years Fripp never played with or ever had a black person in King Crimson or any other band he was in. This is somewhat interesting.
TinaFallis 2 years ago
Ok Tina, 'strange" enough, there hasn't been a white guy in Earth, Wind and Fire nor Commodores, nor Ohio Players, nor Public Enemy. And somehow it doesn't seem to be strange nor interesting to me at all. And don't get me wrong, I also love those bands, but I also think nobody gives a damn if they hadn't. Peace.

It just irks me that Fripp could be a racist and I grew up with his music and how, when I think about it, could have altered the way I grew up.

Don't sweat, if you are worrying, is because you grew up to be a good girl. Cheers.

Robert Fripp played with Busta Jones (who is black) on God Save the Queen/Under Heavy Manners.

I was wondering... what part of Busta Jones did Fripp play with? Tee He Hee!!!
TinaFallis 2 years ago
According to these comments here, I'd say Fripp played with Busta's Skin Flute. LOL

Let's see... He talks with a lisp, is a snappy dresser and hangs out with homos.... Need I say More!
TinaFallis 2 years ago
@TinaFallis
he has a mild voice and i can't hear any lisp, but even if there was one, what does that mean? lots of people dress smartly too, since when is that an indication of homo tentencies ? and what do you mean "he hangs around with homos"? have you seen him in a gay bar or something ? i think you are here, just to annoy KC and RF admirers.
theo9952 2 years ago
BTW, I used to work in a gay bar in N.Y.C. as a barmaid and most of the homosexual men acted just like Fripp. Fancy Clothes, cross their legs like women, talk with a lisp and be pissed off (just like Fripp) when someone takes their picture.
TinaFallis 2 years ago

No, you mean to piss the others off, for some silly reason. This is cheapness.
You are being foolish on purpose.
theo9952 2 years ago
@TinaFallis TinaPhallus, you're just frustrated because you can't get any, both your parents ignore you, you inbred hick. You probably haven't seen even a postcard of N.Y.C. in your Pigsville, KY (or Cowshitburg, TN?)

@TinaFallis ...weird, Tina Fallis sounds a little like tiny phallus...maybe that has something to do with why you're so fucked up...I actually don't give a shit...I think you have no life and pissing people off that are smarter than you makes you happy, how fucking pathetic is that?

@TinaFallis The singer on "Lizard" was black, I think, and you're a piece of shit.
cathoderoy 7 months ago
@cathoderoy Gordon Haskell was the singer, and... not black. They auditioned Peter Straker around this time (1970) and that may be what you are thinkg of.

googlegoat 2 years ago
When and where was the coniption? Merely pointing out that Fripp is a guy who loves to talk. Haven't seen him talk about this as part of his life though it seems like a discussion that he would be open and willing to have.
The connections to Liberace and Rock Hudson are less than useless since those men lived in a very, very different culture.
As to "reading the internet." Guessing you mean do some searches on terms like "Robert Fripp" and "gay" or "homosexual". Just did 'em. Nada.
chaosIsTheOnlyPower 2 years ago
So being married to Toyah Wilcox since 1986 is just a big cover thing?
Fripp loves, absolutely loves, to talk about Fripp. Wouldn't it seem obvious that he would have spent the last 20 years talking about this very same thing?
For a guy who loves to talk and loves to be seen to be living on the progressive edge of culture (not to be confused with progressive rock), he would have spilt these beans years ago.
chaosIsTheOnlyPower 2 years ago 5
This is ironic because you know that recently on "Elephant Talk" there was an open forum talking about Fripp's life style. They talked about the same thing, then an hour later all traces of this talk was deleated. I feel that Fripp is hiding something about himself---- Snappy Dresser + Slim Build + Talks with a Lisp + Never ever seen with women or even talking about them = ___ . (Fill in the blank!)

I agree with you about Robert Fripp being a homosexual. I mean he is very egotistical, essentric and talks with a lisp. Add that up and what do you get! Everybody hints at it and he always denies it. I think the world will only find out when he dies like Rock Hudson and Liberace did. Maybe that's what makes his music so good, because he's constantly hiding his homosexuality.
hhhankster 2 years ago
@hhhankster WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? He's NOT gay, he doesn't talk w/ a lisp, and what the fuck do you think "essentric" means? It means you're a fucking idiot, that's what it means....

CactusJackReininger 2 years ago 2
