Aahhh...Sittin' in my 55 Chevy at the Local Suds & Duds waiting for the Hot Waitress to bring out my Burger & Fries on Roller Skates while this tune jams over the loud speaker, leather jacket, half a tub of Vaseline in my hair, & smokes under my sleeve...Aahhh, the Good....WHAT?...It's 2011?, Fuck!, it was all just a Dream???
LA LA was the lead of the chystals and DEE DEE one of the back ground chorus to the songs, but it does not matter who leads now after 54 years. I personally think PBS television station be congratuated bringing back these older singers in early 80's to today. Others catches on making the 50's alive again. All memories.
LaLa Brooks is back Onstage- after 50 million years of SITTING ON HER ASS!!! So, what does this mean for Dee Dee Kennibrew??? For decades, she was THE ONLY ONLY ORIGINAL MEMBER holding up 'The Crystals" Banner... Is Dee Dee all of a sudden "expected" to just "Move Over" or "Retire" just because LaLa has a change of plans??? Just Saying...
You can't change the older times.I don't know weather it was the old instruments, or the recording equipment. But something sends shivers down my spine that get me dancing and shaking when I hear the old voices of the golden age of time. They will live forever
well, Dee Dee Kennibrew wasn't only a backing vocals in the Crystals, she did some lead singing as well in some songs, although it's true that La La Brooks is the lead vocals of most Crystal hits. But remember that the Crystals for Phil Spector were just a brand name and in some songs none of them actually sing, being the vocals done by Darlene Love, lead singer of The Blossoms, a great backing vocals group for many artists.
Based on the current information given on Wikipedia, the original member Dolores "Dee Dee" Kenniebrew is still singing these days with the two AWESOME singers Melissa "MelSoulTree" Antoinette Grant since 2002 and Patricia Pritchett-Lewis since 2005. I've seen them live...they are AWESOME! The current group of Crystals really put on great shows as they continue to carry on the legacy of The Crystals. The women in this video to the left of ORIGINAL member Dee Dee are L to R: Gretchen and Deborah.
Dolores "La-La" Brooks was the lead singer of the Crytals. Read Mary Wilson's "Dreamgirl, My Life as a Supreme" or Dick Clark's, "Rock, Roll and Remember" or Google La-La Brooks to confirm my comment.
Yes I know that and you can hear that too! By the way,I wrote a book on the history of Popmusic and this video is really an insult to Phil's great creation..
Indeed he is a murderer, but we are not talking about what people do in private! Besides that he was a GREAT producer! But as a human being you may throw him in the dustbin!
Yes, and he may keep there for many years but...I am curious if he could produce masterpieces again, but certainly this is an insult by a bunch of bad copycats!
@jt123egypte Actually, the chick singing ( Dee Dee Kinnabrew ) was with the origional group as a back up singer. I thought she is doing a good job. The origional group, ( in black and white ),is listed under suggestions posted by " doowop 50s ". Its great and even has " Go Go " dancers in it. As for Phil, hes gonna die in prison !!
I would love to see the Crystals live like this but i hate the fact that all these old assholes are sitting down acting like they're watching a movie... no movement... no acknowledgement... they might as well have stayed home and listened to the cd. How about moving around, dancing a little, acting like you still have some blood in your veins... I hate this old person shit when you have sit in a chair and not move in order to enjoy music.
Have you check out a great young singer - his name - Jal Joshua - check it out on your tube. One Voice, Hallelujia, Don't Cry Out Loud...... They are all great, check it out.
@terrafirma91 The original was La La Brooks. Although on some Crystals song Darlene Love sang lead uncredited. In particular He's a Rebel and He's Sure the Boy I Love
@LarryStorchsChannel : I stand corrected, you're right. Movie makers are still using plenty of these classic Doo Wop songs. They'll always be in a class of their own.
yes,its dee dee on lead. The only original member left n da group. Atleast she got da guts 2 take over lead, instead of living off of someone else talent! And smoky? We shall see what Y O U look like n 20 years! Hell, u probably look like shit now!!!
@blinko656 With the new Youtube system, I don't know if you were adressing me, but if you were, I feel that I should say that new music just dies out in a matter of days. The whole feel to the music has shifted towards strange rather than enjoyable. Regardless of how cliché the theme of the song is, it still beats the premise of "Pokerface" or whatever. I'm sorry if the comment wasn't aimed at me.
Crazy... after all these years. I would say they look good, but the lead singer has had obvious work done.... you can tell just by looking. She has a great voice, but she looks like LaToya Jackson!
darlene sang on hes a rebel, he's sure the boy i love which were released under the crystals name the lead singer on this performance is dee dee not Lala brooks who sang it for the orig version
You can really feel the synergy between the girls and the orchestra—with the audience responding. I particularly enjoyed when Dee Dee was cupping her right ear while listening to the sax section and then belted out Run, run, run—Wow! What an electrifying moment! Dees energy is simply astounding and her voice is wonderful!
These sophisticated ladies clearly love what they are doing! Regarding the posted debate about their looks, I find all three gals incredibly sexy!

They all get a kiss on the Cheek for adding so much to this fabulous Music
Is this a horrible 1990's remake by the original girls? Sounds like the same girls singing but remixed as 'High Energy. It's lost its innocence and therefore its attraction. sorry
Am sorry in disappointing you ladies and gentleman Dee Dee Kenniebrew is absolutely gorgeous and got a perfect body. Day she told me her age - and this was almost ten years after we knew each other - I did not fall for I was lying in bed. Anyway can assure you she is perfect and got a fine voice and demeanour. Also an extremely elegant and classy girl - and yet simple and a very good-heart. Right she is an original Crystals!
Thanks for all the love y'all showin Dee Dee cause alot of times people talk s**t about her!! Shes an original Crystal, looks great sounds great has a tight classy polished professional act. True, she didn't sing on all the recordings, but that was crazy Phil Spector. True La La Brooks and Darlene Love are still there doing their thing as well but Dee Dees the only who never quit...and that is Deborah Sherman in the middle and Gretchen Gayle on the left. They no longer are with dee dee.
Maybe Dee Dee didn't sing lead vocals with the original Crystals, but she really belts it out, and sounds great! For those of you making remarks about her appearance, well, I think she looks great. Lets see how you look after 40 years! The backup singer in the middle (Deborah Sherman?) is absolutely gorgeous! The choreography is great, I love their moves! Great Job all 3 of you!
the lead singer her I believe is Dee Dee Kenniebrew, an original Crystal, who is the only original to continuously keep the name of the group going...she wasn't a lead singer on the records
Is the main singer one of the original members? If not these are impersonaters and not the real Crystals. If you use the name there should be at least one orginal member on stage, if not they should be sued for using the name in a fraudulent manner.
There are many bands touring without any original members. From what I understand Phil Spector owns the names of the crystals and the ronettes, therefore so long as they have his approval anyone can use the name.
Anyway this is still one of the greatest pop songs of the last 40 years!
You are right they are a great group, but if they license it out as being the Ronettes or crystals experience, then it would be more appropriate. They shouldn't advertise it as the Ronettes of Crystals, if it isn't the real members.
Regardless of what you or I think is "right", Phil Spector will do what he wants with the groups he owns the names too. The fact remains more people are inclined to buy tickets for a group using the name, than a tribute band.
Besides, from what others have posted it appears this singer was an original member of the band.
Very true. If you watch close, Phil is at John Lennon's house in that documentary where he was making the Imagine album. Phil makes a crack and says,"Well who wants to make a Paul album anyway." Immediately John welled up inside and cut him off right away. I was very proud of John putting a stop to that right away. Even though Paul and John were at odds, John still put up that wall and said, "Enough of that." If you watch the album, you'll see John's actions.
Dee Dee Kennibrew sings this song well. I don't think she ever sang lead on any of the Crystals original hits.I think she's the only original member still performing as a Crystal.I saw La La performing this song and "Then He Kissed Me" on a PBS Special awhile back. She's also still in good voice and looks good as well.
I saw this! Check out the piano player "Bangin' them elephants!" He had blisters on his fingers at the end of this song! He was suckin' his fingers!!It was so funny!!!
I think the scratch and hiss of the old records added something to the original "wall of sound". This modern version sounds so lifeless compared to the 60s version.
Dee Dee does good here-with La La quality in her voice. She and La La and Barbara reunited once in 2000 at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Girl Groups show organized by Mary Wilson.
Personally I prefer Darlene Love. This woman looks like she went in for the Michael Jackson faux Diana Ross treatment and got gipped...scary...she looks like she is ready to jump out of her skin
From the PBS Show "DooWop 51." That's Gretchen Gale (Eric Gale's daughther) on the left and Deborah Sherman in the middle. They both are no longer with Dee Dee. Some time ago Dee Dee and Lala were thinking about getting together, but it never happened.
Im very surprised that some1 else beside me would know the ladies who sing with Dee Dee!! The two ladies that are with her now are Melissa Antionette and Patricia Prichett-Lewis. I work with Dee Dee as one of her representatives. Shes sweet person, has a tight act & is an excellent business woman
Fantastic !
And they don't overdo it.
Band sounds great, too.

Lets see how you look after 40 years! The backup singer in the middle (Deborah Sherman?) is absolutely gorgeous! The choreography is great, I love their moves! Great Job all 3 of you!

Yeah. Dee Dee was wonderfully cute as a teen and she's a classic beauty in looks and spirit in this video. Major crush for quite some decades now.

the lead singer her I believe is Dee Dee Kenniebrew, an original Crystal, who is the only original to continuously keep the name of the group going...she wasn't a lead singer on the records

Is Darlene Love there??

Is the main singer one of the original members? If not these are impersonaters and not the real Crystals. If you use the name there should be at least one orginal member on stage, if not they should be sued for using the name in a fraudulent manner.
diamonddust22 3 years ago

Phil Spector is a very good producer but hes a real jerk

They are a lot of talented people in showbiz who are real asses, Phil is but one!

This woman looks like she went in for the Michael Jackson faux Diana Ross treatment and got gipped...scary...she looks like she is ready to jump out of her skin
mgmstlmo 4 years ago
She is SCARY looking, she has obviously visited Michael Jackson's plastic surgeon, and can't sing well either.
