i went to northern, 9 years ago and in grade nine the school was predominantly white and there was never violence or police, now its more than half mixed and violence with a constant police presence. stop perpetuating a stereotype and people will not have a reason to be racist.

In the unedited video (do a search), it's abundantly clear that the kid was not "resisting" other than passively and politely, and certainly did nothing to warrant arrest on a serious criminal charge. If a cop (school resource officer) asks a student a question, the student must answer. If it had been an intruder (which this ridiculous student's behaviour pointed towards), what if he was after someone? This could have been a lockdown situation, with an armed intruder. This officer should get an award for his conduct. And those students who stood around and took videos should be ashamed for not trying to get help.

In history we've had very poor neighbourhoods that were law-abiding, and in Canada's pioneer past crime rates were so low and murder so unusual that ANY murder made national news (and the murderer was tried and executed within 2 months). Now it's like, ho-hum, 100 murders this year in Toronto, most don't make the news in Kingston!
In 2003 they had security guards at my highschool, but cops at school seems like overkill. Maybe it's inevitable in the US with all the school shootings, but here? Hopefully kids won't be getting tassed left and right like they do in the states. And if they're worried about kids bringing guns to school they should stop it at the US-Canada border.

I am a grade 9 student at a high school close to Northern and I am 100% on the officers side, that student was completely non-compliant. Lets hope he is help completely responsible and accountable for this actions. As for the officer, he is doing his job.

Not exactly. I went to that school, and while it's defenitely not the best academic school out there, it most certainly is not your average school. It is defenitely below average. There are 2 other schools within 5 minutes that are pretty similar in makeup, but are far better at educating. Northern kids are only the future in terms of athletics, other than that, they won't be leaders.

i went to northern, 9 years ago and in grade nine the school was predominantly white and there was never violence or police, now its more than half mixed and violence with a constant police presence. stop perpetuating a stereotype and people will not have a reason to be racist.

It's pretty scary how the "news" media spins this in favor of the police. In the unedited video (do a search), it's abundantly clear that the kid was not "resisting" other than passively and politely, and certainly did nothing to warrant arrest on a serious criminal charge. This stinks to high heaven. The Toronto police-in-schools program is opposed by everyone... except the police. It's not only totalitarian, it's idiotic, and should be stopped before something REALLY serious happens.

If a cop (school resource officer) asks a student a question, the student must answer. If it had been an intruder (which this ridiculous student's behaviour pointed towards), what if he was after someone? This could have been a lockdown situation, with an armed intruder. This officer should get an award for his conduct. And those students who stood around and took videos should be ashamed for not trying to get help.

In history we've had very poor neighbourhoods that were law-abiding, and in Canada's pioneer past crime rates were so low and murder so unusual that ANY murder made national news (and the murderer was tried and executed within 2 months). Now it's like, ho-hum, 100 murders this year in Toronto, most don't make the news in Kingston!

I am a grade 9 student at a high school close to Northern and I am 100% on the officers side, that student was completely non-compliant. Lets hope he is help completely responsible and accountable for this actions. As for the officer, he is doing his job.

Not exactly. I went to that school, and while it's defenitely not the best academic school out there, it most certainly is not your average school. It is defenitely below average. There are 2 other schools within 5 minutes that are pretty similar in makeup, but are far better at educating. Northern kids are only the future in terms of athletics, other than that, they won't be leaders.

How hard would it have been for the officer instead of repeating himself to just once say why he is required to handcuff the student? Every time I see a video of someone supposedly resisting arrest the officer never offers the person a reason. Perhaps that is what it would take for a cop to get the respect they demand.

while its on my mind, parents wonder why their kids are getting into so much shit too.
But if a teacher reprimands them, the parents try to get the teacher fired or disciplined. If you are too busy to do the parenting then let someone try to put your kid on the right track.

its cliche, but I don't care what anyone says, its the fuckin PARENTS. I'm a dad, and my kid will get a swift smack on the ass for getting out of line. Everyone wants to break from what happened to us when we were kids, but for the most part we probably deserved it. I can't stand watching these parents say "my kid would never do that" get a grip. Its reality folks, kids aren't going to be perfect, so we have to show them the way

Lets ask the question, why are there cops in schools in the first place? Isn't this supposed to be the land of the free. I would feel uncomfortable with any cop walking around my hallways suspecting that I've done something wrong at all hours of the school day.

Are you seriously comparing calling a cop 'bacon' to murder? There's freedom of speech and expression here in Canada. The cop needs to respect that, and be enough of a man to take it.
I agree that freedom needs limitations. First, limit the cop's self-given freedom to arbitrarily arrest a child who has not committed a crime.

thats exactly it. these niggars have no rules and disclipline in their homes so than when their asked to follow rules and respect authority outside it becomes a problem and they show this agressive attitude. im sure teachers and principals can atest to this as well.

There is obvious targeting of African Americans as usual, stemming Black male youth from even attending school without threat and at minimum unease. The US is truly a "discrimi - nation". Law enforcement is militant and one sided against people of color.
