I've been a fan for 30 years and I thought it was a very good album, in fact one of their best albums. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If their creative decisions are based on their record sales, then maybe the folks that don't like it will get the album they truly want next time. Although an album based on what somebody else wants and goes against your own creative vision rarely succeeds.
I'd say this is good for what it is, a sub-par rock song. I don't enjoy it half as much as classic Queensryche and definitely will not be purchasing this album.

Oh I never said it was a great album , to the contrary, Im not thrilled with it either. But Im not gonna jump off the Queensryche bandwagon yet and put a fork in them and say they are done. I have huge amounts of respect for them being a 30 year veteran and them putting out American Soldier in honor of our troops! All bands eventually come to the end of their careers but I dont think they're finished yet.

Ive been in a few bands over the years and I know that when people like what your doing you become successful, if you stop doing that then the money quickly disappears......your an artist but your also creating a product that people either want to buy or they dont. @Piscesryche ....proper constructive feedback on what your doing. Having the wife of one of the members of the band be the bands manager may save them some money but it doesnt give them a keen eye on how good the band is at any point. The band have lost their way, and wont regain that without stopping, taking stock and listening to what people are telling them. Without the key songwriter who helped craft their songs they wont ever be as good as they used to be anyway.

Things change. I'm an artist as well and sometimes its great and not so great. We will never know exactly went on between De Garmo and Geoff. Yeah he was awesome. I do not think the band went down because he left. That's your opinion. Let them do what they like, if you don't like it don't buy it,but don't go on

Again we don't know everything that has gone on between all the members and shouldn't be ignorant. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, but move on..they did, maybe not like you wanted but they seem to be doing fine. Back in the 60's n 70's bands were w/their families. @rokstar48 I forgot to mention, shame on me, their tour for the American Soldier. They put their hearts and souls into that and I'm so grateful that a band would do this. I'm not surprised at all that its them that did it. I lost family in some of these wars and my brother is still waiting to come home. I accept their ups and downs. maybe they don't think this is down for them. Not my fav for sure but I will never stop supporting them, unless they sold out. This is their life and their family's

Empire was a huge commercial success because of major radio support. Doesnt necessarily mean it was their best album just the most commercially successful
@theweaponsystem if the new album had loads of radio and advertising support it still wouldnt sell as its not very good!.............the whole point that 95% of the long time fans are trying to say is its not about sound or style its about QUALITY. A quality product what ever it is will always sell as people wanna buy it. There are some de garmo haters out there but when he left the chemistry left and the songs have suffered since that day.
So as long as they put out what Mr Zillaman approves of all in the world is ok?? No fan of any band is going to like every product that is put out. All bands have their ups and downs. But if a band puts out what makes them money then fans start crying OMG they sold out!! Perfect example Nirvana. I like the song. One of the good ones on the current album which is still a disappointment, but some of the songs on there have grown on me. This video though looks very low budget, nothing wrong with that, just odd.
restore your faith in music...for those that haven't discovered the greatness of Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree...check them out....their stuff is always amazing. Makes most bands sound ordinary....
I like bands who evolve, a lot of my favourite bands have evolved in music, like Iron Maiden, they're making some brilliant progressive music now. Queensryche however hasn't evolved, they're just making bad music. It's amazing when you think that this is the same band who made Operation Mindcrime.
This album is great and just because its not mindcrime or empire like doesnt mean its awful that is what everyone keeps complaining about in my opinion promised land is better than empire and hear in the now frontier pumps me up and the q2k is nice smooth jazzy album, tribe has its ups and downs but is still good queensryche to me is still up and running so everyone complaining about there new material then stop bitching and go listen to something else

Picked up the "special edition" of the album today, and it's all really underwhelming. Too bad, because I thought they were getting back on track with American Soldier. I hope it'll grow on me, but in particular, most of the lyrics seem really trite. Oh, well.
I mean, for fuck's sake - Geoff Tate says "rock is dead" and passé and whatever, and yet this song is about as dumb, plain and formulaic as a rock song can get. And on top of that he has the gall of badmouthing AC/DC, who aren't the sharpest knifes in the drawer, but at least have balls to spare. Just quit, you guys.

I LOVE this video! It is a great song that makes me want to get up and move! The vocals and every instrument are all just full of energy! I love listening to the song, and I love seeing the guys enjoying their work. (Well, I'm not sure enjoying is the right word for that shot of Kelly ;op, but the rest of the guys look like they are having fun.) Can't wait till you guys get back to the states!
@whplague ABSOLUTELY! I actually woke up with it in my head this morning. It helps me get the blood pumping. Guys just don't get stuff you can dance to. Women love stuff you can dance to. But I hate the fluffy pop crap. I'd much rather find high energy rock that I can dance to. This is definitely high energy! BTW, you CAN dance to AC/DC too. This is garbage. Did a high school student write the lyrics to this song? It is too bad that Queensryche has been relatively prolific in the last 10 years, but the only album I've liked is Mindcrime 2. And no, that isn't because all I want is Mindcrime over and over, it just was a way more inspired, hooky album. I loved Tate's solo album, his output with QR has been poopy-kaka.

The album sounds quite good. I like it. I really appreciate 80s bands (or any type of rock band today) that pushes to have new material, specially Queensryche that had both the bless and misery of excelent/groundbreaking albums that many fans would like to see repeated over and over.
Drums sound good, Geoff sounds good, bad song though....and this is one of the best songs on the album. That's the best I can say. They're much better with thematic and soaring material.

@catire98 It does. The main difference between this disc and the others is the guitar isn't out front. If you listen there is still some great guitar and some heavy riffs. This one just focuses on the rhythm section. Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield are very talented also. Michael Wilton is a great guitarist just a little subdued this time. No two QR disc have sounded the same. It is the type of band they are.

@Piscesryche most of the fans are saying the same sort of things my friend so only a fool would not heed the advice. Ive been in a few bands over the years and I know that when people like what your doing you become successful, if you stop doing that then the money quickly disappears......your an artist but your also creating a product that people either want to buy or they dont. The worst thing you can do is surround yourself with family and friends as they will never really give you...

@Piscesryche ....proper constructive feedback on what your doing. Having the wife of one of the members of the band be the bands manager may save them some money but it doesnt give them a keen eye on how good the band is at any point. The band have lost their way, and wont regain that without stopping, taking stock and listening to what people are telling them. Without the key songwriter who helped craft their songs they wont ever be as good as they used to be anyway.

Things change. I'm an artist as well and sometimes its great and not so great. We will never know exactly went on between De Garmo and Geoff. Yeah he was awesome. I do not think the band went down because he left. That's your opinion. Let them do what they like, if you don't like it don't buy it,but don't go on

This is by far not my fav QR release, rage for order is tops and warning omc II promisedland but OMCII is my favorite.That was a great album, show and having DIO is timeless.

Again we don't know everything that has gone on between all the members and shouldn't be ignorant. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, but move on..they did, maybe not like you wanted but they seem to be doing fine. Back in the 60's n 70's bands were w/their families. @rokstar48 I forgot to mention, shame on me, their tour for the American Soldier. They put their hearts and souls into that and I'm so grateful that a band would do this. I'm not surprised at all that its them that did it. I lost family in some of these wars and my brother is still waiting to come home. I accept their ups and downs. maybe they don't think this is down for them. Not my fav for sure but I will never stop supporting them, unless they sold out. This is their life and their family's

Oh I never said it was a great album , to the contrary, Im not thrilled with it either. But Im not gonna jump off the Queensryche bandwagon yet and put a fork in them and say they are done. I have huge amounts of respect for them being a 30 year veteran and them putting out American Soldier in honor of our troops!

Empire was a huge commercial success because of major radio support. Doesnt necessarily mean it was their best album just the most commercially successful

@theweaponsystem if the new album had loads of radio and advertising support it still wouldnt sell as its not very good!.............the whole point that 95% of the long time fans are trying to say is its not about sound or style its about QUALITY. A quality product what ever it is will always sell as people wanna buy it. There are some de garmo haters out there but when he left the chemistry left and the songs have suffered since that day.

I like bands who evolve, a lot of my favourite bands have evolved in music, like Iron Maiden, they're making some brilliant progressive music now. Queensryche however hasn't evolved, they're just making bad music. It's amazing when you think that this is the same band who made Operation Mindcrime.

This album is great and just because its not mindcrime or empire like doesnt mean its awful that is what everyone keeps complaining about in my opinion promised land is better than empire and hear in the now frontier pumps me up and the q2k is nice smooth jazzy album, tribe has its ups and downs but is still good queensryche to me is still up and running so everyone complaining about there new material then stop bitching and go listen to something else

Picked up the "special edition" of the album today, and it's all really underwhelming. Too bad, because I thought they were getting back on track with American Soldier. I hope it'll grow on me, but in particular, most of the lyrics seem really trite. Oh, well.

I LOVE this video! It is a great song that makes me want to get up and move! The vocals and every instrument are all just full of energy! I love listening to the song, and I love seeing the guys enjoying their work. (Well, I'm not sure enjoying is the right word for that shot of Kelly ;op, but the rest of the guys look like they are having fun.) Can't wait till you guys get back to the states!

But I hate the fluffy pop crap. I'd much rather find high energy rock that I can dance to. This is definitely high energy! BTW, you CAN dance to AC/DC too. It is too bad that Queensryche has been relatively prolific in the last 10 years, but the only album I've liked is Mindcrime 2. And no, that isn't because all I want is Mindcrime over and over, it just was a way more inspired, hooky album. I loved Tate's solo album, his output with QR has been poopy-kaka.

@catire98 It does. The main difference between this disc and the others is the guitar isn't out front. If you listen there is still some great guitar and some heavy riffs. This one just focuses on the rhythm section. Eddie Jackson and Scott Rockenfield are very talented also. Michael Wilton is a great guitarist just a little subdued this time. No two QR disc have sounded the same. It is the type of band they are.
