  • wow thank you so much for posting these videos! its really quite amazing. i have a random question tho and have had little success coming up with an answer. the horse i ride always tries to grab the [ight side of the]shank on the headstall i use. my instructor said i shouldnt tighten it any more tho because it will make her too 'smiley'. any hints? thanks!

  • A horse can spin with its nose several directions. Some spin better with there nose tipped in this is usually the direction they lean there shoulder. some with there head straight and others with a counter bend. Anything is like salt. A little on a steak is good but too much and its unedible. But this is the real system taken and sold by Clinton Anderson.

  • Hello Doug, my name is Dianne Sommerfeld and I am a NRHA pro here in Santa Rosa, Ca. I have checked out your videos on You Tube. It is clear that you are very talented. You will be misunderstood by people that aren't at your level. Some of the negative comments I have read about you border on the ridiculous. You were generous in giving these videos free of charge to people that could learn alot from you. Do not be discouraged, there are many of us that can clearly see just how talented you are!

  • I use clinton andersons methods and they work nicely. I like what I see in doug's, want to give them a try. I have trained about 11 horses using CA. He is good a trainer not God and I like to try different things from different trainers. If it works use it!

  • I love CLinton Anderson methods too! You dont have the "lets jump our horse over a picnic table and then let me tell you a story about my old friends friend and then lets throw a party in the arena" Parelli type deal. I have respect, again for both of these trainers. For Clinton and Doug. I know so many different methods available, and from what i have learned and experimented with. Why cant people just be more like us folks?. lol

  • here we can see again that clinton anderson fans write shit about doug´s way of training. in all videos he is very nice to the horses, they´re a not stressed. they´re show horses and have to do they´re every day training like human athletics, too. but these horses lokk all satisfied and as if they´ve fun with they´re work

  • Jerk...Jab..Jerk...Jab. Sheesh..give the freakin horse a break. And can you keep your butt in the saddle? You are practicially falling over the front of the horse. Can you say BEHIND the bit? This is just UGLY!

  • look at this idiot close to falling off the horse ...... he has no feeling and is far away from beeing a horsetrainer...... clinton kicks his ass

  • how is he almost falling off the horse. if you ask me he is doing a pretty nice job of training that horse.

  • I do not see anyone falling off a horse here. What video were you watching? Clinton is a very good trainer. I have respect for him and Doug. Any "style" of horse training, that is effective and is not abusive mentally or physically, and that makes perfect sense, is great information. So as far as im concerned, in this video, their is some great information that you should be able to enjoy.

  • clinten anderson will never compare to Doug Phipps

  • The little circle comes from showing horses. Then the horse learns it comes into the middle for work and stays on the rail for showing. Anyone who has ever shown knows the horses always try to get done with the class early and line up. The claping for praise is amazing as the horse learns the more the audience clapps the better it is. Soon they slide and smile as they recognise the praise from the audience..

  • i do notice sometimes you turn his nose to the outside when asking him to move over. when you do that he falls onto his inside shoulder which is what you dont want. why do you do that?

  • nice work! it is obvious that your horse is really trying for you. however, i wish you and others would rub or scratch your horses' necks instead of patting, or sometimes even slalpping them. they LOVE have their necks rubbed or scratched and it is much more rewarding for them.

  • i think hes a great trainer ;) i train ropin horses and im good at what i do and i appreciate a good horseman and he definitly knows what he's doin. horses are simple minded creatures and connecting with them is key. it takes consistancy, patience, and respect on both sides of the relationship and i think he nails it!! thanks

  • I can see you learned alot about bending and suppling from dressage basics In Europe.. So what is so original or profound about that? It's just good sound basic horsemanship that was established by the ancient Greeks thousands of years ago. I have no idea who this Clinton person is. Why do you refer to yourself in the third person? I think that's rather odd.

  • Clinton Anderson is a fairly new "famous" horse trainer (in the US - and your in Japan? im surprised that you havent at least heard a word about him. He is Australian trainer). Anyways, I respect CA as a horse trainer as he doesnt have to be as showy as Parelli does. I have also found his methods to be quite effective. But you know what is quite effective also? Learning from your own experience and what works for you.

  • i know i did not explain that completely BUT it is the point. patriotreiner, do not let stupid/jealous people get you down. remember that when people start to become jealous or putting you down for your methods, then you know that you are doing something right.

  • he thinks he is clinton anderson? what about pat parelli, monty roberts, craig cameron, and so on. why do people have to only choose one person and say they are the only right way to train a horse. their are many techniques out there that work for different horses/riders. don't try and label someone as clinton anderson or so on. patriotreiner trains under what he has found that works for him and his horses. dude, get to the year 2008 and drop your stupid self at the door.

  • ok first of all this is called reining... second DO ANY OF YOU TRAIN HORSES? we all have a different style of training and he is just trying to be helpful.

before you critisize remeber that he is making money doing this and you are not.

why cant people be more positive about things rather than pick things apart??

  • Hey, fellow American horsetrainer,I hate to burst your bubble, but you're schooling that horse in an ancient haute ecole dressage movement called the pirouette; a battle inspired riding action that's been utilized in Europe since the 13th Century. Cowboys started using this in the 19th Century,,,Duhhh

  • for your information, a turnaround and a pirouette are 2 TOTALLY different maneuvers and are trained for differently. a pirouette is in the canter (a true canter) and while cantering moving in a tight circle (to the point they are almost pivoting). a turnaround is the horse holding his right-hind leg in one spot and moving his entire body around that leg. the leg is not supposed to move, if it does it is to placed back down in the same area where the turnaround started.

  • not to continue to act as if i am picking on you, i just needed more reply space from my previous reply to you. they only give you so many words. :) I probably know about 20 different variations to training the turnaround. And their is only about 3 or 4 that actually work and get better results. I would have to add this "training tip" from Doug, as one of the top.. Yes i have seen your methods of training. And it works. Thank you for letting me learn something from you.

  • thank you for posting a very informational horse training video fo rthe spin (turnaround). Not a lot of people are able to be very informational and be able to show what/how to train for a maneuver.

    Thank you and God bless!
