It would be insurance they would own and it stay with them as their situation hopefully improves. It would give them more choices and more power to shoose what works for them versus Medicaid which many doctors do not accept.

My point was so you are going to pay another agency to handle the money at a % cost that will then go hire another company to administrate your healthcare for another %. Government costs in inefficiency would give anyone 50-75% of the value in insurance they would get by going private.
Thats not how it works. in Canada I pay $50 per month, to the government for full coverage. That means FULL coverage. Everything. no matter what ails me it gets fixed at no extra cost. The only down side is waiting lists for NON emergency surgery.
First of all cancer survival is slightly better here than canada. That in itself says that treatment of cancer patients is better under our sytstem. Govt. care by necessity turns into rationing as any monopoly would bear that out.
$400/month is typical if your employer does not carry insurance or if you are self employeed and have to pay out of pocket. especially if you have kids.

- over 10 million are illegal aliens
- 14 million are eligible for other gov't programs but do not sign up
- 18 million make over $50K/year
- 10 million of them make over $75K
There are about 10 million or so "working poor" that really need help and all Obama/Reid/Pelosi are doing for them is expanding Medicaid. Sounds like a great plan. Are you signing up? Better yet let's put members of Congress on Medicaid.

You'd rather sign up for Medicaid? Good luck with that. I'd rather see people get vouchers with which they can purchase their own insurance (not through a government exchange either). It would be insurance they would own and it stay with them as their situation hopefully improves. It would give them more choices and more power to shoose what works for them versus Medicaid which many doctors do not accept.

People complain of taxes, but spending money that does not have real backing inflicts a tax that is felt by literally everyone, poor and rich: inflation.

Someone Posted earlier that they would rather pay $400.00 per month in taxes to the government than pay insurance $400.00 per month for healthcare insurance. My point was so you are going to pay another agency to handle the money at a % cost that will then go hire another company to administrate your healthcare for another %. Government costs in inefficiency would give anyone 50-75% of the value in insurance they would get by going private.

Thats not how it works. in Canada I pay $50 per month, to the government for full coverage. That means FULL coverage. Everything. no matter what ails me it gets fixed at no extra cost. The only down side is waiting lists for NON emergency surgery.

In fact it was promised to be passed within the 1st week it was introduced. That was then changed to the end of July. That was then changed to the end of the session in August... the point was NO one should RUSH this without really thinking and talking and arguing points.. which is whats happening now.

It fell apart due to a failing economy that couldn't maintain the global presence it had, i.e Afghanistan and eventually led to a failing of the system and a loss of military support to many of the USSR's leaders. Eventually the whole system collapsed. Public opinion had absolutely nothing to do with it. Maybe you're thinking of Vietnam?

honestly!? here's the deal... Pay more money in taxes and help your neighbors? Or pay less in taxes, but more in insurance to help your damn selfish self? We're the only industrialized country that has yet to get universal healthcare... Do you really think one step towards socialism is going to declare as a socialist society? I think not.

Not much, they take a chunk of the payroll, then when the employee develops a medical condition, the insurance companies say it's not covered and the employee isn't getting a refund.

Obama needs to go to the UK and see how bad the health care is over there.
What he is trying to do will make us have the same thing the UK has here in the US.
It won't help anyone in the long run...at the very least it will cause another economic breakdown. Doctors have already started quitting their jobs because if it is mandatory and they can only make so much money they will be working even more hours with the same or lower pay. And medicine is not the only thing effected.

So, the public plan is going to drive out existing insurance companies by costing more? It doesn't make any sense that you argue this OPTIONAL government plan is going to ruin the industry when private providers will still exist and by your logic out-perform the public OPTION.
Let's also talk about insurance providers denying claims ex-post for mistakes made ex-ante. The companies should be obligated to pay once you are on their plan, instead of taking your money then dropping you.

The GOP is not going to provide health care reform. Health care is payed for by health care corporations that pay into GOP coffers. Why would they care about people that cannot afford healthcare? The GOP does not want reform, they want status quo. Rich get care, poor simply don't. This is their method of caste creation. GOP, you need to work on a solution you can live with, because this health care issue will not disappear.
