what the hell did you do to that xp install, it took like 5 years to load lol. even on a pentium III 850 with 10gb 4200rpm hdd, it does not take that long to load. oyu must have like 20938092384098234 things installed or some crap slowing it down. disk cleanup and defrag ftw

I found a few flaws in this biased head to head test. First off all the laptop on the left had a BIOS password, plus dualboot menu. Also, he entered his logon password for the linux machine much faster. Additionally, the Linux install is a clean install while the Windows computer is his daily machine, which undoubtedly has a shit ton of apps installed on it.
in all honesty, winxp was not made for laptops, it's best on a comp that atleast has pentium4 and 512 mbs of ram and i mean in the most limited detail, in the end it isn't what machine boots up faster but which one works for the user, but i enjoyed the video regardless :)

therein lies the problem. the idea that you have to optimize xp's boot and startup is an indication that a quick boot is a tweak rather than how the os comes. dont get me wrong, i dual boot and love both os's but linux does have a quicker boot time.
Corporate image is the operative word. Most corporate images have more startup scripts than normal. I have a Dell 667mhz p3 256 mb ram and Xp takes a total of 25 seconds to boot.
the other pc may have more Ram and processing power. we cannot see that. but i'm a windows guy. i'm thinkin of going to linux since their FREE. except for Xandros first linux OS i ever used. i'm going to get a pc with this gOS on it i'm gonna give it a try for long time. see if i can get used to it and see if i like it better than windows. if i do i'll give up on Windows and go to Linux. i gotta get use to since my ps3 is gonna have the yellod dog or fedora core 5 Operating system.
oh yes he's got XP properly configured...but let's face it .. no windows version can ever match the performance of LINUX. and yes , i do use vista ultimate on my desktop and ubuntu 7.10 on my laptop and i don't hate windows... but LINUX is just faster and more stable then any windows OS,but the downfall is ... u can't use office 2007, photoshop cs3 or dreamweaver cs3, YET :P
Not to defend windows but this test is a bit unfair for a start I can see a secondary boot loader and he should have enabled auto-login on the laptops, I found that if you configure XP e.g. disable services etc.
It is on par with Ubuntu boot times I know you shouldn't have to configure an OS like that and it should be default but that's windows.
