  • The guitar Dave Matthews uses is called a Veillette Gryphon. Phonetically it is pronounced "Vay-lett Griffin." It is a short scale 12-sting tuned to High D with the strings being tuned in unison unlike a conventional 12-string. In case you were wondering it will set you back between $2000 and $2500.

  • @AnonymousEndUser yeah as you can see this video is pretty old and was done pretty much a week or two after the song was "released". I contacted that guitar maker about getting one but the price is much to high for me. Maybe some day who know :)

  • It's sounds great! Thanks for this, and what kind of guitar is that?

  • @asuspended77 it's a line 6 variax acoustic

  • you play really well

  • im trying to learn guitar haha..

  • thanks man, you rock, I think I will use som of it covering this song :) please check some of my dave covers :) thanks..

  • this is great. thanks for this.

  • Right on man, nice dissection.

  • god damn dave matthews is some tricky shit

  • the over 42,000 views says otherwise.

  • Can you please do an instructional video on "Good Good Time", Pleeeease. I know you are the only one that can pull it off accurately! Nice work on this one!!! Thank you. Take care.

  • Simply put...awesome. Im going to see Dave at Fenway this Sat and I will try to learn this by then. You ARE a great teacher, please continue...

  • cant stop

  • can you show us how to play recently? you are a very good teacher man!

  • can you do a video on how to play break free by dave matthews?? that would rock

  • I did a long time ago.... search Break Free and you'll find my video :-)

  • i got to get a cut away!

  • Yeah good point.. I tried it with my version again and it didn't sound quite right, your version sounds as close as you can get on a standard 6 string.. (though an extra 6 strings would make it sound REAL nice!) Thanks for the lil tutorial though!

  • wooww awesome job ! and this is one of Dave's best songss ! the guy is god and props to you man!

  • I capo it on the 5th.. it's hard to explain, but instead of hitting a "C" shape at the end of your Dmi riff, I hit some sort of open "F"and it rings beautifully.. eh, too hard to explain, I'll have to post a video to demonstrate.

  • to play this song EXACTLY like dave you either have to have the guitar he's using or Capo at 10th frett :-)

  • thanks man =]

  • awesome!!! Thanks so much for posting this!!! This is such a beautiful song!!

  • Well done.

  • Thanks for posting this! It's really helpful and well done. Keep it up.

  • Hey bro...I've played guitar all my life, and I must say this is one of the most excellent guitar lessons I've seen posted on YouTube. You sound great, and thanks for your dedication to music, one of the Lord's greatest gifts to man!

  • one sweet video. any idea where I could get the violin part? I'm trying to figure this out on my violin but need help!

  • Awesome job man. Loved the video. There are a couple parts that i couldnt follow only on my own part. But overall awesome!! Great work.

  • Thank you 8D

  • This video is absolutely amazing.. very good, pretty easy to follow as well, however I only wish I could play like that.. This song has to be one of if not my favorite work by DMB, and you did a fantastic job of making it possible without the 12-string. again, excellent job

  • how do yu do dat man

  • you are my hero. thanks sooooooooo much man. that chorus is rediculously innovative.

  • Excellent job! Really shows appreciation for Dave's playing, and chord structure.

  • Spectacular work! Thanks so much. I always attempt to interpret what the entire band is doing in my covers, often being forced to change the chords to include key notes of the horns melody and what not. Once I learn your version I will post my own and I would be curious as to your thoughts...

  • Very fine work dude...

  • Awesome mate, very awesome.

    Love this song

  • I love this song!!!

  • Add more videos! I'm learning to play guitar and your videos are helping me so much. Keep it up! :-)

  • pretty good man... keep it up

  • It's also called a 'Papoose' guitar. It's a bluegrass instrument generally.

  • cool thanks.... but doesn't a Papoose only have 6 strings? Daves guitar has 12 ;-)

  • It's of papoose origin me thinkest. . .

  • oh and the Papoose is tuned to "A"... Daves guitar is tuned to "D". :-)

  • you're awesome dude! is there a chance you can demo 'you never know'... it's a pretty great song too!

  • This video is great. Just wondering if there's a tab that goes along with it?

  • sorry no tab :-( But maybe in the future.

  • this is wicked!

  • Thanks gang :-) A friend froma guitar forum I frequent corrected me on the name of the guitar. It's a "Vay-let Gri-fon". Thanks my friend... mucho props!

  • AMAZING JOB!!!

  • Great Lesson, very well done
