this kind of gimnastic jump is only for exivitions ...! in the conpetitions she must not used ....jajajajaja Ito Midory i think you are so much jelose and you dont know what to sayd , and you can not say " i think Surya is realy great skater" wy japanese are so envid...
The music is a vocal variation performed by the french soprano Mado Robin. The music is: IL CARNEVALE DI VENEZIA (The Carnival of Venice) but It's very controversial who was the composer ... Anyway it's quite correct to say that the first to write it on paper was ERRICO PETRELLA (1813-1877).
I really wish they the IUS and the IOC would have allowed the backflip as a legal jump.. Surya would have set the bar for that move but then agian she is the only woman that preforms it.. and the only skater male or female to land it on one foot. Simply amazing. Love to se Yuka try and do that move...
yes i want to see Yuka try to do somthinks nere too.., and i just think the racism is too bad, and the conecctions for whos goin to win in japan is too big, also if you see the public some public don aplaud, you must to know how big envid have some japanese peaples when see some one whos have feeling like Surya, and Ito Midory, i think is nice if you shat up your mouth...!
@Carpentersfan2003 I dont think many skaters would even attempt a move like that knowing that they could land on their skulls and crush their spines, I think the ISU didnt make that a legal move because of the risks involved.
I think she had errors that warranted second place standing in her free skate but this exhibition piece is magnificent and really highlights what makes her skating unique and special.

I think it is the very ignorant to say surya bonaly was ahead of yuka sato. that is silly and no point to say. you must look at the quality of the skating, the ability to make it look effortless and smooth. yuka showed us. i think bonaly is great but she just lost to the better skater but i think bonaly was much better in this vivaldi's program in 1993 where she was the real winner. she was so fluid, soft elegant body and clean program with flow and order in 1993 worlds.
Fantastic. She was told, she cannot use the flip in olympic style competitions, because all jumps have to be landed on one foot and continuously. She learned to do so, but her move was not allowed anyway. Had she been allowed, she would have won gold, not silver in the Olympics. On this video her landing is not yet perfected, but in later videos she does an impecable job!!!!
In reality, the gap between Sato and Bonaly was very large. Sato was complete. Bonaly - she has a good presentation as well, but she needs to hit all her jumps in order for it to work well on the ice. I think the true injustice was Kerrigan, Stojko, Torvill/Dean (all '94) and then Sale/Pelletier ('02)being marked as second at their Olympics. Bonaly did improve her line, presentation and emotion after this though, and her later work is beautiful.
Bonaly also greatly improved her edges and softness as well. This exhibition program showed us of what was to come. I think at this point in her career, she skated with better quality in exhibitions maybe because it wasn't a competition and she was relaxed and enjoying.
I think you are very ignorant about figure skating. It was Yuka who was MILES behind Surya.
Aside from Surya's FAR superior jumps, Yuka had some of the worst spins in ladies figure skating (whereas Surya had some of the best in 1994) Surya was also quicker and glided on the ice.
Yuka contributed nothing to the sport besides winning worlds in her home country...a split decision... but one motivated by racism. Under the new code of points Yuka would have been destroyed.
most ppl cant accept tat this generation (the 90's) had tons of racism n ppl couldnt accept black ppl n who ever is in denial... man, u probaly think the holocaust didnt exist either!! fukin mess up ppl
Mio dio che pattinatrice!!! Anche oggi ce ne sono di fantastiche, ma come Surya non ne avevo mai viste!!! Che spettacolo.. sono rimasta senza parole..! :D
Bonaly was definitely robbed. Each time Sato jumped in the air: "Wooh! Yeah! More! More!: Each time Bonaly jumped in the air: some claps followed by silence. The judges and narrators were so critical with Bonaly when Sato also made similar mistakes. The competition was biased.
Then again, Sato was the hometown favoritie so it's expected for the crowd to cheer louder for one of their own. Plus, the type of outfit Bonaly wore made have affected the judging.
what an amazing performer - I think her style is so avant garde, that the judges apparently just never got it but this routine shows what makes her a great ARTIST - not just a jumper as commentators so often say
She's such a strong athlete. Midori and Tonya were also strong, but each seem to have a very different way of jumping. This program was awesome! Wish she woudl've gotten a real coach though.
she's fantastic no matter what placement got at worlds and olympics

Her posture I have to say is nicer than any other figure skater's I think. Didn't she used to be a gymnast? that could be the reason.
