Its loud because the primary is not hooked up... i have a similar set up and when you connect the primary for the TC it makes the gap fire more quietly.... its a cool experiment but shorting your caps out like that shortens the lifespan by a lot.... not saying it wont still work for quite awhile i have messed with these types and larger capacitors... those multicap designs are BS in my opinion... too much garbage to mess around with.... you should read teslas patent for a condensor...
just bought 6 of these for my tesla coil, how will hooking multible caps help thecoil, and do you think i should hook them up in series or parrelell.... my nst is 60ma 15000v on the sec, the pcb caps are 15,000v .01.... man i cant wait till they get here... im hopeing for them white streaks from the sec of the tesla coil. maybe more capacitence will buld up more charge, for better streamers. what you think?
I reasently bought a 15kV 30mA N.S.T but when i try using it on my tesla coil it wont charge my capacitors!? eaven if it is 50Hz it only makes a buzzing noise and no spark in the spark gap. i´ve tried 3 different high voltage caps but none of them will charge. why is it so??
You have to calculate the correct Capacitance and then double the voltage of the supply so the caps can handle it safely and get one of those, or make a Capacitor bank....
Try it as a Jacob's ladder first to see if the transformers working, but stay safe!
I have those same caps, and am having trouble tuning my coil. I am using a 12kv 30ma transformer, and my secondary is 16inch height with a 2.8 inch diameter. I am worried I might have a bad cap/transformer match. I have 2 in series for 0.01mF and I get no sparks at all and any turn of the primary. Maybe spark gap is too far apart. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated. I have to present this to my physics class in 2 days.
Haha that is great. I'm going to build one of those coils too at some point, I need to learn a little bit more about high voltage first so I don't kill myself in the process.
Beautiful... Videos like this are the reason I have turned my back on the television. Dont know what it is about seeing a plasma discharge, (and hearing it) but I cant stop smiling!! Nice work, and I do look forward to your next video.
You can just put the capacitor on the direct AC output? Don't you need to rectify it?

how are you conecting the capacitor?!
can you please send me a diagram?! D:
please, im having a bad time with my coil T_T

LOOKS GREAT!
Is your capacitor marked as 15000VDC?
I found the 0.02uf 15000VDC, but I thought I may need 15000VAC instead.
Thanks!

The first time i did this with a pulse cap with my 15000v NST, i think i mightve shit my pants.

If you put those coils on a satellite dish you probably can aim and take down planes with it by effing up their electronics...

you have put the spark gap and tesla coil in serie?

WOW. that was most impressive. I really wasn't expecting THAT MUCH of a difference. I bet you messed with every TV and radio in .5 mile!
Great video.
