This isn't necessary to buy protein powder man! For bodybuilders, it's useful, because they need 2 grams of proteins/kg of their body. But the first thing you have to improve is your diet. A tennis player doesn't need to buy expensive supplements. Just concentrate on improving your diet, there are many meats that are full of proteins, like chicken (25g of protein/100g of chicken) which has a low rate of fat.
I believe most protein shakes contains artificial ingredients are not approved by government. Which this means, it mgiht be containing metal (Most of them does), you have to be careful about these... this will KILL you. get something that is government approved. I like Progressive nutrition company (Personal and government approved) but you can use what jeff has. it's organic. Just look at the customer report, you will be surpise how much metal contains in protein shakes.
@lakshaanR Also, if you are buying protein shakes somewhere else in the store. don't listen to what guys says. they are just trying to sell the product. they get money for doin' that. On the internet the number 1 protein shakes (such as Optimum) contains metal too, it's not good for you for LONG term. Don't fall in the MARKETING strategy. search for 10 mins on internet and you will figure out what's good :)
Jeff: Great Video and couldn't agree with you more. What is your take on what kids/teens should do when they've just complete a 2hr. match and they are given 1hr. to start their next in junior tournaments. What is the best recovery for them? Thanks in advance!
What I Normally Do is Carry a Banana, a Banana If your Used to Mostly a All Fruit Based Diet, Like I'm. It will Quickly Go into you in 1-2 Minutes Giving you instant Energy. I Don't Drink Protien Shakes or Any of that. a Good Way I Get my Protien Being a Vegatarian, Is Normally Spirulina. Which Carries Many Different Vitamin Off Balances. Which is Great for the Body, and Can Be Liqufied. To go on the Go
That's good for you being vegetarian. but not for everybody. It's personal choice. Banana is awesome, full of fiber, fructose, slow digesting and other benefits. But one banana is around 100 cal. if banana calories fits in your rest of calories, take it. Protein shakes are made for convenience. After workout / tennis training, if you can't eat a healthy meal, take protein shake.
i loved this video because it gave me the motivation to keep on drinking protein shakes after matches and even practice and it showed me how important it really is thanks jeff!
Good advice! Thanks! I play pretty hard so you're right, muscles do get inflamed. Got to buy some protien powder!

Jeff,
What if you had it just before you played tennis, would that work as well. I have blue berry, yogurt and protein shake before I play as my breakfast.

I guess my thought of having a icy cold, gin martini as my motivation for finishing a tough third set is not a good idea?
