Sample taken from the 1987 Vietnam War era film "Full Metal Jacket" ... spoken by actor Lee Ermey character "Gunnery 'Gunny' Sergeant Hartman" during the U.S.M.C. Paris Island boot camp portion of the film.
Awesome! Thanks for uploading this vid. I always felt Manufacture was was one the best, yet terribly underexposed & neglected electronic/industrial bands of all time. So great seeing this video again!
love love love this song 20 years later! The "Terrorvision" album is an epic masterpiece of cyberpunk and e.b.m. A huge influence on my life. Stands out for me above so many other albums. It's up there as a true classic for me, with, say, Nitzer Ebb's "that total age". (This is of course much more intricate and interesting though ;-)
@EYEmusique to talk about cyberpunk, did you ever hear about an amazing band (a trio actually) from Australia called NO? their LP "Glory For The Shit For Brains" was recorded in 1987 and it's really good!
I do believe this project responds to cyberpunk standards, so please if any purist round here thinks I'm wrong then have mercy on me. Cheers!
@broilet - Hello, yes I loved NO and listened to that album lots! :-) Great album. NO were also a group called "Max Q" with Michael Hutchence (INXS) on vocals - they had few big chart hits here. Ollie Olsen, the man behind NO, has been involved with many other great projects; went on to focus on psytrance type stuff in 90s and later, record label called PsyHarmonica.
Terrorvision, Voice Of World Control, they were both great albums when they came out and they both stood the test of time. They still sounds pretty damn cool to my ears. The real rough on the edge industrial machinery funk of the 80's.
I believe this was the first American band to be signed to the Canadian label Nettwerk. I shudder to think how long we have known the intricacies of "foreign policy" but nothing changes. For the record, back in 1988 women were swooning over George Michael and people were subjecting themselves to the "Rick Roll" on purpose! Great track - a bit repetitive, but I think these guys caught onto a groove that was pretty fresh. As far as "Industrial" cred is concerned, their process was innovative.
I wish I knew more bands to track down like these. I love EBM even though I wasn't around for it back in the 80's lol. Now I can't find enough much less find cds of them have a few here and there just keep looking for more.
this guys were canadian & they were featured on an extensive article about industrial music that appeared on keyboard magazine on 1991, one of the curious things about them is that they featured a relatively unknown singer on their CD: Sarah Mc Lachlan
@DrRocky666 Brian always had an eye for a great model to shoot in a video. Those were great days . Both Perry and Brian were cool to hang out with at the clubs back then. The live shows were great and I wish more people got to see what I saw. Good times in 1988.
Cool, well either way it's better than that distorted 909 sound everyone's got going on these days. I know they're just experimenting with new technology but it just doesn't do it for me. Neither do the distorted vocals.
i agree, the "new wave" of EBM is garbage for the most part, it's all the same trance arps except with distortion. everything is saturated and nothing stands out, with exception to a couple groups i think, pneumatic detach, somatic responses, bipol, there's a couple more
what the hell is EBM, back in the day this was euro industerial pop. Not as exciting as say the cabs or Psychic tv just kinda thompson twins on steroids.
Unbelievable. I had this record. Recorded it to Sony MD. Lost my Record to one girl friend and lost my MD to a different one. Enjoyed listening. Thanks for the upload.
meh, or one could argue that ministry / revco and skinny puppy didn't know when to stop. neither of those bands' later output can match their early work, which is almost always the case
Manufacture def has elements of EBM, as well as Pop. They described it best as "Aggressive Dance Music". They're def one of the best Electronic bands around. Brian Bothwell is a killer video producer. Not many bands can cover all their own bases =o]
i don't call this EBM, mainly because it is not EBM. It was the beginning of what led to modern EBM, but this fell more into the "post industrial" category. Psychic TV, throbbing gristle, KLINIK, Cabaret Voltaire was true industrial, though i'm not much into the old stuff, and i despise modern EBM. i think bands such as this and skinny puppy have much credit to give to Cabaret Voltaire. This and other 80s industrial is all i care for.
I'm much more into modern EBM such as Icon of Coil, Imperative Reaction and SITD, but this is an impressive, kick-ass song from 20 years back. Still sounds great today.
This was THE first industrial video I had ever seen. Hot goth chicks, militaria, hackers and industrial complexes, this video had it freaking ALL! Thanks a ton for posting it. Anyone know where I can get a high res copy of this?
I bought the Terrorvision album when it first came out and I thoroughly enjoyed blaring it from my car while driving around the redneck hicksville I lived in. Brilliant original sound for the time - pity they didn't do more than just the two albums.
Did they have Sarah McLachlan as a band member? I'm sure she's in this vid

They show the Roland S-50 quite a bit, and I do believe I have a patch that sounds awfully close to that bass line...

Modern EBM needs to be restored to the greatness of Manufacture, F242, Armageddon dildos, Leaether strip, Nitzer Ebb etc...
not the generic nonsense were left to contend with nowadays!

Most likely an analogue keyboard. You don't hear it very often these days as EBM has gone a bit shit :(

Don't think so, sound like dx7 to me.

Sounds like a very digital dx7 to me. Then again, the dx7 is a very badass synth. Just not analog.
