its not difficult what autechre do. if you got reaktor 5 you can do the same beats. melodies are easy to do with absynth. the editing you can do with cool edit 95 demo version. no need to call these guys from autechre a legend. everyone can sound like this.
@Lesjamify But, let's be honest. A HUGE part of the reason the software evolved the way it did was because people heard pioneers like Autechre, The Orb, Orbital, The Prodigy, Brian Eno, because lay people loved their sound and people marketing the software knew that if the tools worked in such a way to make the creation of those sounds possible, they'd be able to sell the software. Further to that, most of the greats have been hands on making or mastering and teaching this software.
thank you for calling me a legend. well. it may be true. i already made songs with technomaker 2. they put some cool rave beats to it so i made more bass to it with something called IQ or EQ not sure what it was but anyway I am the legend.. right.. autechre? who are they? i´m the genius everyone wants ha!
If you can't see heaven clearly after listening to this there's trouble.
Sorry but your home made video destroys the essence of this video. This is about passing from one life to another, from sunrise to sundown, from lover to sleeper.
The music is very beautiful, one of the most intriguing works of Ae imho, but I don't think the music and the traffic sounds of this video work well together. The city noise just distracts too much from the subtle intertwining soundscapes. Besides that, the cuts in the video have absolutely no relation to the changes in the music.
God I love this. I keep coming back to it. I've had very emotional experiences to the track before, whilst driving. But this particular take just offsets it beautifully. So simple. Well done.
I used to listen to this driving through the wilds of Scotland on my way to work...if you're in a city it's the Apocalypse...if you're in the country it's just nature...
for me it depicts utter desperation and utmost lack of hope of a guy who, in a minute, will commit suicide.. or genocide.
lack of beat makes it even deeper. it tells you more than experimental breakcore. there is some nasty hectic shit beyond that "peaceful" layer. i'm scared and i mean that...
it is by no means good to listen to it when you're seriously depressed.
"Utter desperation"? "Lack of hope"? What!? Why?! Because it lacks beats? Man, a little introversion, and contemplation won't hurt anyone... far from being depressing, just beautiful...
cool, I was originally listening without looking at the video and I thought that the traffic sounds cut really well with the music, as cerareo12 said, it turns this into more of a single work rather than a track and a fan video... you should try taking this further.
For anyone who has not heard it, Plaid did a much faster and percussion-fused remix on Vltermx. It can be found only on the Warp 10+3 Remixes compilation. The original repetitive bass notes are well hidden in Plaid's remix but after enough listens they start to emerge. Quite brilliant.
vletrmx is the kind of track that could only be used for the most dramatic and perfectly flawless deep scene in a movie, ever. infact, with todays technology and our current capabilities to write stories, we still couldn't put vletrmx to use, it's too good for anything. maybe in 50 years we could make a movie just barely worthy enough of this glorious track.
People say that it is VERY HARD to understand the meaning of AUTECHRE's vidoes...I think it's true...but still, these videos are simply THE BEST!!!Thanks for adding, setanor!!

You're not into either Mondriaan or Philip Glass I presume? ;)
I used to dislike Mondriaan, but it's actually through the work of artists like Autechre and Philip glass that I came to appreciate paintings like 'Broadway Boogie-Woogie' and his compositions with Red, Yellow and Blue. His two lines composition is not a real composition in my eyes, but a kick in the nutsack of every artcritic around the planet, which makes it a worthwile painting ;)
I don't know if anyone has said that before but I believe what those guys make can be called as "deconstructive". I am an architect but I have to admit that I can't percieve space as well as they do.
This tune is so uplifting it always makes me want to cry out or something. Its got so much emotional atmosphere. It puts wonderfull atmospheric images in my head and the feelings i get are hard to describe. As with a lot of Autechre stuff... YUM
I don't like all of Autechre's music, but most of it is amazingly made. This is just single notes being played on a synthesizer. You could program a computer to generate tracks like this from a very simple frequency/time-function. Therefore I do not consider this music, but what music is, is not a discussion we should have on youtube. It's ok if you like it, but don't think it's pure genius or even pure minimalistic. It's pure simplicity, and maybe that's beautiful, but it doesn't turn me on.
Yes, I see what you mean, but I don't know if it's really true, I'm not an expert at what computers precisely can or can't do. Still, I believe it does not take much emotion or musical/artistic insight to create something like it. It's like the Mondrian 2-line painting worth a million euro's; It has a l'art pour l'art kind of meaning, but it's probably not meant to mean anything.
Just admit that you don't like electronica you dickhead! Just because it isn't done on a guitar or whatever doesn't mean it isn't music! Electronica is the future of music as we know it and Autechre are definately some of the most groundbreaking geniuses at how they utilize it. This piece is indeed a work of minimalistic genius! I am sick of people like you talking trash about it!
it does not take much emotion or musical/artistic insight to create something like it...Listen to the music. Just listen. It's great artistic insight and emotional. Just listen. Dont prejugde it but listen carefully! It's the kind of music like rock or pop whre you can listen with one ear.
It isn't just single notes anyway. There are other notes harmonizing below the high ones.
It is really simple, just the same sequence of notes over and over with what sounds to me like some volume and filter modulation. But really simple music can still be good and emotionally expressive. It only really takes a couple chords to set a mood anyway. :-P
Thank yóu for actually going into what I say. I must agree with you on the harmony, and am not saying it's bad, I can see how somebody can like this, but too me it's certainly a bridge too far to call it 'genius'. It doesn't sound original enough for that and I don't think they put a lot of effort into this compared to other electronic tracks out there.
Maybe you're right, and I AM on a mission. I enjoy my electronics like the next, but it's not everything Autechre makes is complete and utter genius. Just try listening to it as music, not as some superhuman endeavour, because it's not. And this is not an impressive track compared to other work of Autechre, everyone done this.
How sure can you be about it being arpeggiated chords thru a 'network' of delays and reverbs? I'm not deaf, but I don't hear any arpeggiation (single notes of a chord played in fast succession) and the suggestion of a 'network' is taking it a bit too far, it could essentially be 2 single units connected serialy for all you can tell by the track itself.
"Therefore I do not consider this music, but what music is, is not a discussion we should have on youtube."
Objectively speaking, music is nothing but sound.
Although, if you don't think it's great I can't really disagree, especially compared to other Autechre work. I see it as something that is meant to be simple and I respect the contrast this will cause with their other work. However, it's not the track I would be praising as highly as some others seem to be.
The slow wailing of the melody coupled with the low humming sound combined with the sense of desolation and tranquility it evokes has always reminded me of the sky growing dark then turning a kind of sickly green as the tornado sirens would blare. Interesting to hear it with city noises.
Have to disagree there. Keeping the audio adds to the atmosphere. If you took the original sound away it would just be visuals to the music but keeping the sound he's actually taken it one step further - the whole piece works together - the visuals, chaotic sound and the atmospheric music.
I love how the sounds are abrupt in places too. There's something scary, yet intriguing about the visuals and yet it's something you see everyday. Sorry I keep coming back to this video - it's really good :P
I think this video is great. Atmosphere...and real. Everyone is using the latest technology to make the most complex videos in the world, and this guy (and autechre as well) achieves to scare me putting in images just the thing i try to run away from when i listen that song. Fearful song, fearful video. Thanks
You should send this to the Autechre boys. I know they would love your interpritation. The city scape night time sounds serve only to add to an already powerful track. WeLL done . Any more on the way ?
sorry.. it's totally rubbbissshh! .. too small , non-emo sort of things to the too big sort of emo sound ... heh.. i think, gays from AE have good fun watchin this ..u've killed their song already with that.. haha.
Very cool. I had a similar idea, on a foggy after hours night I would have a friend drive me down some out of the way roads in New Jersey that go along the orange glowing industrial parks and lights from the parkway... the whole sky lights up bright orange on a foggy night. I drove these roads all the time, and Vletrmx21 is my favorite song, i was going to film this area and put the song over the video.
WTF ? NOT VIDEO, NOT MUSIC !!!

atmospheric and thoughtful. i like that you've let the found sound mix with the ae track - gives it a more tangible natural edge. good work fella.

I think this video is great. Atmosphere...and real. Everyone is using the latest technology to make the most complex videos in the world, and this guy (and autechre as well) achieves to scare me putting in images just the thing i try to run away from when i listen that song. Fearful song, fearful video. Thanks

The best videos are those that engage you and make you think about what you're seeing - this is one of them.
Very well done and good use of an awesome track!

Really excellent.
You should send this to the Autechre boys. I know they would love your interpritation. The city scape night time sounds serve only to add to an already powerful track. WeLL done . Any more on the way ?

Normally I hate fanVids but this one transcends the genre. Thoughtful.

i like it. i like being able to hear the city sounds and how they cut out abruptly. feels frantic or something.
