My 2008 Malibu just started doing the same thing. Did some research about recalls and called my mechanic at the dealership and he told me there is a recall about the steering motor sensor. Contact your dealership about a recall, even if you didn't buy the car from them, they should still fix your car if there is a recall on your problem. Good luck
@Orionreplay the comment below about the position sensor Is correct. The motor was shorting out, they had to replace it. The person at my dealer didn't believe me either. That's why I took this video. Thankfully it went crazy for him when I dropped it off. His manager didn't even believe HIM. After about a year and a half of having it fixed, I could start feeling it pulse again. It wasn't jumping, but I knew what was coming. Traded it in for a car with a mechanical steering system.
My '08 Malibu has begun doing this same exact thing as I rolled 27,000 miles. I have gotten used to this happening, but it freaked out a coworker riding with me the other morning. I contacted the dealer who claimed "this was impossible". I contacted bigger GM and they listened more than the local dealer. They asked it be taken in for diagnosis. That is happening today. Fingers crossed.
That is xactly what my 2008 Malibu does. I left it at the dealer and they said that there was no problem when they drove the car. Have you had any luck with getting it fixed? If so what did they say was wrong and what did they do to fix it?
Yea, and the Malibu is the same car as the pile of cow dung GM calls the Pontiac G6. I have a 2009 G6 and its been nothing but a problem. That's why I sued GM and won.
@camarodan32. How did you do that? I ask that, because my brother has a 2006 G6, and everytime it rains he back mat on the driver side is always like really, really damp. Then in my 2006 Grand Prix GXP when it rain, and when its winter time, my trunk is always full of water. I had to cut holes in those trunk things so it will drain on its own. The even worse problem is we haven't even had our cars for a year.
GM fails to officially make a recall on power steering issues with 2008 Malibu and other models, but instead mails a letter stating you may have this problem. Unfortunately the dealers are passing the problem off saying "they can't duplicate" the involuntary intermittent jerking of the steering wheel. Well thanks to the internet and YouTube, they can now see hundreds of videos with the same problem and apparently the problem has been around for at least 5 years.
My 2008 Malibu did this. It cost me $687.33. It was not covered by warranty. Customer service at GM got the dealer cover it however
Google and find and open "Chevy Help contact us"

The next day GM called me. Then the dealer, falling over himself apologizing. It took 17 days but I got paid. Thanks Bryan

That is an issue with the EPS system's steering wheel position sensor trying to locate the home position & failing. Off to the dealer with it.

HAHAH that's GM for you. All those junk Mexican parts. Probably a bad torque sensor or an issue with the power steering.

There is a quality automobile. Nissan FTW.

I had a nissan that did the same thing only worse.. caused by a faulty valve in the power steering rack.
Check out how bad the wheel is in this LExus...
