Art?
Has society gotten to the point where nihilistic conceptualism becomes a sort of beauty? This piece has no real point, no real emotion. Nothing. . Have we gotten to the point where art is not for the society, but for the critics? What ever happened to art for arts sake.
Conceptualism is not beautiful- not even meaningful today. Its an overdone genre filled with "artists" racing to unravel ideas that have yet to be exploited. Even blank canvases have been sold as art.
Ryan's work submerges familiar characters into an extreme poetic state where their creative potentials metastasize, but perhaps only on an illusory level. It is a project about presets and automation, subjects of fascination for Trecartin, about how these tools grease the wheels of contemporary work and play, allowing for increased productivity and easy harmonies, while also enabling pandemic monotony and deadly, blind collisions.
you make something, anything, you can make what ever you like, and see if you can make something as ineresting. and what ever it is that you make, remember, its open reign here, whatever that is, if its better, then you can biatch like this
@Tezazeral I like you. As an artist and filmmaker, this has no value for me. I understand that there is value in challenging the norm; however, this is a consummation of underdeveloped ideas. If you want to look at great art in the same vein is Tim and Eric's Awesome Show on Adult Swim. Not the first venue that comes to mind when discussing conceptual art, but their show uses absurd humor as a means for criticizing the stale state of media today.
what about art for the artist's sake? most people making art are doing it for themselves not for their audience. at least that's why most start. It might not be accessible but, 99% of art is misunderstood anyway.
the guy is just making shit he likes. sometimes it's as simple as that. His stuff made it into the Whitney Biennial and Ryan didn't even know what that was at the time(see sept 10 issue of W). That's about as unassuming as you can get.
@got2many I just really despise how "art" has transformed into this disgusting sort of "realistic" idea. everything has to be dirty, everything has to show the world and all of its imperfections.. I quite honestly don't give a crap about the world's faults. When I see art or go to a museum to see art, I want to see beauty.. This is not beautiful.. It's disturbing. but man, even the fashion world has gotten ugly. People wearing clothes that make them look homeless.. I don't get it at all.
wow, it terrified you in that way. i was more thinking i'm gonna have nightmares for the next two weeks. i found this video by accident in an article about videos that made people famous. this first video...I-BE AREA (Double Jamie, Ramada Omar, and Sally Man Pause).....actually disturbed me.
also i agree about the whole fashion world gotten ugly. the stuff they show in fashion shows are crazy.
why is there a debate about art under this amazing vid. just watch the video, if you love it as you should, then say so, if you dont like it or understand it just shut up and google search something else.
im just not one for youtube debates , especially page long rants about whether people think this kind of thing is "art" or if the movie star wars is art. its apples and oranges,, i think youtube debates are silly.
The "meanings" in this art film are obvious. How more blatant do you want your little messages? Your film school professors must drill you better on avant garde techniques, and these are lofi, not even that complex, yet you still cannot "understand" this film, and you also don't understand domination systems or your own lemming life. GREAT FILM.
Ew shut up. Your the type of people who make Art closed off to people who are curious about it. If you talk to people who are in the same field as you this way the fuck is anybody else gonna want to try and join in on the exp? Jeeze.
Since you don't understand art, Enzempiro, I want you to hate this film and all my work also. You must read Derrida, Artforum, and October magazine to be hip enough to share this elite aesthetic pleasure surge. LOL
Well to bad for your punk ass i dont have any idea what your talking about. Nor do i understand this video but it speaks to me. In some techno tripiin' language. I don't even know what i'm typing anymore but when i pick up those publications you were talking about i'll get back to you.
Ok. I've watched it enough times now to fully get everything. Basically, its totally right on. YES! fluid-identity-meta-matrix-simulation-simulation-sim. See U in April
I enjoyed this thoroughly and found it to be so well done! It reminds me of this awful film I saw by I think the guy's name is Mike Kelley only ... this Pasta person has really ... done what that guy was seemingly trying but failing miserably in all parameters to achieve. it is hard to imagine watching a feature length version of same but I'm sorry I missed my chance in LA and hope another comes along. It really is so furious an experience that I feel I love it but could be wrong but htink not!
This is how I feel like when I don't take aderall. I love it. An interesting variety of mumblecore and not lacking in cultural commentary either. Fun to watch in that it makes you feel like throwing up.
i watched the entirety of i-be area last night in a theater. i really didn't feel right afterward. not that it int one of the most fantastic things ever!
I've watched and thought about this possibly too much. I first saw it in a museum setting (in a run that ends this weekend) here in OH, and it probably goes without saying that it plays differently in that context. But on that larger scale, and this more intimate one, the video does things that I've never seen before. This is moment-defining shit in video art that is difficult (but rewarding) to ponder, and 100% impossible to describe. Hats off to the makers.
