I'm seeing a lot of debate on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Seeing vids like this, it's awful what the bomb can do. Hell, it brings tears to my eyes when I think about that August morning when the world first saw the weapon that would go on to change the way we conduct warfare. But then I think of the chances we gave Japan, and that several more lives would've been lost in the process of a full scale invasion of Japan. I hate myself for saying this, but we were justified in dropping the bomb.
@marvelmax03191 Justified in dropping the bomb???? What reason for?? I know that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor without any notice BUT THAT WAS IN 1941.American history lessons like to draw a direct connection between Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and they also like to claim that without the bombs, Japan wouldn't have surrendered and a million or more Americans would have died invading Japan.
@pumping2 It wasn't about Pearl Harbor, man. Look, we were planning a full scale invasion of Japan. The Japanese would not of given up without a fight that would've cost millions on both sides, and it's not a lie based on "lies and exaggerations". It's fact based on the fight they put up on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Those were just islands. Imagine them defending their turf! We needed to end the war. With the amount of death it had already caused, this was small in the big scheme of things.
@marvelmax03191 I stand by my opinions. It sucked, but sometimes you need to do bad things for the greater good. By the way, it's not my intention to start an argument.
@marvelmax03191 . But Japan was already considering surrender by the summer of 1945, had sent someone to Russia to talk to folks there about getting help brokering a surrender deal, and official military estimates of the number of American causalities in an invasion of Japan was actually more like 50,000 or so (which would still be tragic but seriously, building your arguments for something on lies and exaggerations really isn't a good idea).
@marvelmax03191 There was also an element of wanting to test the bombs and see exactly how much damage they would do (I'm not sure about Nagasaki, but prior to the atomic bombing Hiroshima had been left pretty much untouched, despite all the talk about how it was a legitimate military target). So basically, just like everything else in history, it's not such a simple situation to figure out.
Thats horrible, I can´t imagine the suffering the people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki had to endure. Imagine all the innocent babies and children being burned to death with no one to help them.
If it wasn't for the world "Yes", World War 2 would have never ended. Einstein even said himself that he regretted building the first nuclear warhead. The only country to have the balls to launch or detonate a nuke would be the ones who first built it. > The United States Of America
@VeldinJoe Let's face it, hundreds of millions would be dead from the inevitable WWIII that would've been launched some time between NATO and the Warsaw Pact had nuclear weapons not existed and created Mutually Assured Destruction. Nukes kept the peace.
