There are many instances of healings in the history of Christianity. As for drinking poison/Draino, what if some fundamentalist took you up on it and died? I suggest you do some field research in Appalachia if you're that interested in snake handling.
@WinteRest49 yes I'm quite aware of the stupids in some places in the country that get hurt in various ways due to misplaced faith in an old book. In my reply video I clarify what shouldn't need to stated-- that nobody should actually try to drink poison. Also note that I'm not the one that wrote the bible and made the absurd claims people are getting hurt over--so put responsibility where it belongs.
@MystryBox I'm going to drink Mezcal on New Year's Eve. Does this qualify as poison? Secondly, I hold you personally responsible for the contents of Mark 16. Seriously, I read along time ago in footnotes that the passage was a later addition to the gospel. Even so, "later" is still first century and Mark is canon. The intention of the passage becomes interesting.
@MystryBox I was joking about the Mezcal and you being personally responsible for Mark 16. I was serious about looking further into the passage. I am a believer and 'am nuts, but that's beside the point.
The testimony of "them that heard him" was accompanied by Divine witness Heb 2:1-4. It was quite a specific phenomenon granted to a few who "waited" Luk 24:49 Act 1:4 and to some Gentiles during that time.
Paul had declared that these things would cease 1Co 13:7-9, and the power of the kingdom won't be seen again until Rev 12:10, "when that which is perfect is come".
@PrinceWalter Reading 1Cor it isn't obvious to me that Paul is saying those signs would cease. And it's not me you need to convince anyway as I don't believe Paul (who never even met Jesus but just claimed a vision) or any of the rest of the NT authors (most of whom nobody even knows for sure who they were!). You need to convince the Christians out there rolling around the floor babbling incoherently and otherwise acting like such things haven't ceased.
We do not do that the same reason Jesus did not jump off the highest point of the temple when Satan tempted him to (much like you are doing) Satan reminded Jesus that scripture affirms the angels will save him if he is the Son of God, and he shall not touch the ground. Jesus countered with Matthew 4: "Do not test your Lord God" Translation: DON'T CHALLENGE GOD. We shall not yield ourselves to death merely to "test drive" God's word.
@sora364 I didn't write the bible, I'm only quoting it. If you think another part of the bible contradicts what this part of the bible says, well it wouldn't surprise me as the bible is full of such inconsistencies.
you put your self at risk, sorry buddy but it sounds like you have nothing to lose cause you havnt gained anything, unless im mistaken that your a christian?
There is one interesting website that i just found you might want to take a look at, but there are a great well many of documented supernatural events...
how about ghosts? miracles? near death experiences? or exorcisms? the supernatural happens every day and is witnessed by a great many people.
@Gaaminator do them on command as the bible says you should be able to do. If you can you can collect a million dollars from Randi dot org. Of course you can't, because the bible is wrong.
The practice of snake handling is remarkably similar to Satan’s second temptation to Christ on the pinnacle of the temple: “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone’” (Matthew 4:6). In other words, “Go ahead, do something dangerous. Throw yourself off the temple. Or pass around some deadly snakes. The Bible says that God must protect you!”
@CaribbeanSkies Fortunately, Jesus took the devil’s words and put them back in the context of the rest of the Bible: “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God’” (verse 7). In other words, true Christians do not throw themselves off of high buildings or handle deadly snakes on purpose. There is a dramatic difference between faith and presumption!
"Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." Although we do believe that very holy people have been able to do great things, these are great miracles reserved for only the holiest of people (like Jesus). Then as to your blasphemy, yes, if you were religious beforehand and understood the reasonableness of faith and chose to deny God, that seems to me to be an unforgivable sin. But only so because the person that commits it does not want it to be forgiven (forgiveness is impossible without belief).
What a bunch of unsupported bombastic claptrap. Please spare me. You might be a mind-slave to fanciful notions from ancient fishermen, but I'm not. I'm a responsible adult and try to have good reasons for the things I believe.
I was trying to answer your specific question, and you seem rather close minded (and it boggles me) that you would put up a video specifically saying "challenge for believers", and yet when a believer does come up you immediately scoff them away because you say your system is better. That I do not understand.
You didn't respond to the challenge. The challenge is for you to heal the sick or drink something deadly and have it not harm you to show the signs that follow true believers. You gave some excuse rather than do what the bible says you should be able to do, and then on top of that you start lecturing. So don't act surprised when I show little respect or patience for you.
By posting a video titled "challenge for believers" I would have imagine that you wanted dialogue between theists and non-theists. In other words, I did not expect that you would "show little respect or patience." This is no such dialogue- just a forum for atheists. Goodbye.
It should be obvious from this video there is no real dialog expected. You cannot heal the sick as the bible says you can nor can you drink any deadly thing and have it not harm you. You know it and I know it. The bible is wrong. So no, I didn't expect any real dialog from theists on this video.
@brandisify It's good to know that all you christians presume to speak for the creator of the universe, it makes you look bigoted and very arrogant. Don't judge a book by its cover or "Thou shalt not judge". ;)
@MystryBox bro... keep going! lol I don't know what your religious preference is (I presume atheist but correct me if I'm wrong) but you have your shit down. I've been reading these comments and i gots to say, @orion7763 you sir need to be saved FROM the bible cause at this rate... you're drowning, or another words, brainwashed.
I've taken a lot more flack across my other videos too. I read the responses I made here over a year ago and I was a more patient and friendly. I guess months and months of being attacked can wear you down.
Edward Current made a video where he drank poison while making a YouTube video and he died. Very sad. Did he die because of your video? Here is his video:
Although the guy in the video was kidding Christians do die from exactly that sort of stupidity coupled with the verses in Mark. Though they were dieing from such stupidity long before I made this video.
you havnt risked anything, The Blasphemy challenge is farcical, due the research. the verse you are talking about is in the greek "CONTINUAL TENSE". which means if you continue in blaspheming then you cant go to heaven.
I have seen a 6 year old girl pray for a homeless man to be healed, the guy came back 2 days later healed of diabetes. interesting timing.
as for the poisons, my faith is not at a place where i can do that
1. it doesnt destine you that making a simple statement automatically denies you from heaven.
2. NO ONE can predict the future. you can make reasonable assesments but no one can for certain. which would make it so taht one day you might change your mind on what you believe. if that day comes a person making this statement becomes irrelevent and can actually be forgiven
Yes I can make reasonable assessments. That's why I stopped being a Christian in the first place. The stories in the bible are most reasonably myth and lengend, not actual occurrences. That's the simple truth.
Really? You don't think it's one of the more critical issues of discussion going on both now and all through history? What do you think is more important?
You might not think it is so childish once the fundamentalist christians have a majority, and then demand that every citizen carry around money that has a message from the christian church PLUS law that make non-christian children pledge "allegiance" to not just America, but "god" five times a week in the taxpayer funded schools. What's at stake today for America's 48 million non-christians is FREEDOM ITSELF. These "christians" will HAPPILY place their FAITH before your FREEDOM if you let them.
This is a weak challenge. Years ago there was a church somewhere in the midwest that had tons of media coverage because it was based on the scripture you're talking about. They drank poison & carried poisonous snakes throughout the whole sermon. This was documented & proven to be legit. So challenge complete, you lose.
Yes, I'm fully aware of these churches. Somebody dies in them occasionally and it hits the news. A woman in KY died just last year. You can read about them on wikipedia by looking under snake handling. However I'm not impressed by a bit of snake handling or tiny sips of poison. I drank something deadly myself in the response video. I want to see an amputee healed. Are you game?
whether you're impressed or not, it happened. if it's a sip or a gallon, poison is poison. you didn't drink anything deadly in the video, you don't believe in God right? So your soul is not in danger because you're denying a Spirit you never believed in. As far as the amputee thing, I haven't seen it with my own eyes, but yes I'm game. I'll try to find something tangible as long as you're open to receiving. oh & I believe because of personal experience, not because of my parents.
What I drink in that video is poison. Over 1000 people die of alcohol poisoning every year. Of course in smaller quantities it isn't deadly, and that's exactly what those pentacostals do... they just drink such a small amount of poison it isn't deadly. Drink a DEADLY amount of poison or heal an amputee or someone with AIDS if you want anyone to think there's something special going on.
Oh brother, here we go again. the open minded rational thinker is being close minded as usual. How do you know it isn't deadly? how do you know how much they drink? how do you know they're pentacostal? If wikipedia is your source, then I can see why you have so many trouble believing. church is not about giving you a show, it's about bringing you to a personal relationship with God. We don't need to make you think something special is going on.
Also I'm not looking for things you can find. Heck I can google and find all sorts of claims of supposed miracles from every religion. I want YOU to do what the bible says you can do. I put my soul on the line for what I believed. Can YOU heal an amputee? If not, why not?
If I can't heal an amputee, it's because of the lack of faith in me or the person who needs to be healed. The Bible clearly states that Jesus couldn't do miracles in his own homeland because of the lack of faith there. you didn't put your soul on any line. All you did was say words in your declaration. A muslim terrorist can say the pledge of allegiance, does that make him an american ally in his heart?
and why do you want ME to do what the bible says I can do? the bible says that I'm responsible for my own soul, not to do magic tricks so that people can believe. miracles are possible, not imparative, especially not to make someone believe. If that's the case, then I would be God because you see me doing the miracle, not Him.
Mark 16 says certain signs will follow those that believe. I think it's bogus. I don't believe people can heal amputees on faith. If I'm wrong I want someone to show me, not make excuses or empty claims about what they heard someone else do. So far no one has. You're here and seem to believe it, so do it if you can. I don't think you can. I don't think anyone can. I think the bible is wrong. But I'm willing to be shown wrong. But I want evidence, not excuses.
You're absolutely right, PEOPLE don't heal thru faith, God heals thru people with faith. Now I can't do what you're asking because I would have to be right in front of you in order for you to believe it (which in your mind is an excuse), so all I can say is that I will keep praying that God will one day show exactly what you're asking. Until then, keep the non-faith my friend.
The lesson here is for believers like you, not skeptics like me. I never expected you to do the challenge because I'm quite sure you can't. This is because it's a fantasy. By challenging you I try to get you to face the fiction that you believe, if only a little. You know if you're lying to yourself or not.
It doesn't make sense to have faith in something that there's no reason to believe is there. The only reason people believe in God is the stories in the bible. There are hundreds of versions of the bible, how can people think that only theirs is right?
People believe because they were taught to believe by their parents and culture. The bible has little to do with it... most don't even read the bible. Other cultures believe something different again because that's what they were taught. Religion follows culture--this shows it is not objective or True, instead it is like fashion.
These signs were promised to the apostolic community (see Matt 10:1 & 2 Cor 12:12) and not all believers in all ages (see 1 Cor 12:29,30).
Study God's Word and you'll find out that these were a sign that would be done away. With the Gospel spreading there was no need for apostolic confirmation thru signs & miracles.
Unfortunately for you Mark says the signs of healing, drinking poison and not being hurt, etc. are signs that will follow those that believe. So if you disagree you should take it up with Mark instead of me.
I don't disagree w/ scripture. You're the one that posted the challenge and I gave texts that support it and yet you don't believe! The issue is not between you and I, its between you and God!
This shows you are not willing to accept any answer, be it true or false since it does not meet your presuppositions. Stop wasting time w/ challenges than.
Mark says signs will follow believers. You pointed out a scripture that says something else. I don't really care if that's a biblical contradiction or other information. I just want to see the signs that mark clearly says follow those that believe. If you can't do it, that doesn't surprise me because I think it's all bull.
True, many don't read their bibles, one can tell from the responses you've received. It also explains your ignorance if you once were a self-professing "christian". But truth outweighs your presupposition of the non-existence of God.
You need more faith to believe in the theory of evolution - which is not operational science.
To believe is necessary in life, as one cannot function from not believing in what one is doing..... BUT to come from Beliefs...is the danger,... as one gets anchored to the belief... which dose not let one to move beyond its anchored point. And Faith could prove even more dangerous when it turns to Blind Faith.
Logic is the tool of the seeker of truth.... And logic alone. can unfold ...normally unseen realties... ... not any particular individual.
i am talking against all... believers ,Fetishists and Atheists .... They r all the same , when one strongly talks of something... that it self is a BELIF....what one requires for the progress of human thinking is OPEN analytical ,logical Mind.
What I mean to say here is .. neither Jesus or Mohammad , the chosen ones can take any body any where ... Nothing is more true than the SELF.. and this self alone can lead u to TRUTH
Here here. Have faith? Faith in some thing you don't see, feel, taste, hear or touch? It's like having an imaginary friend. I think what the son of nip tuck said is all too true. jesus is santa claus for adults. And i have to go too chuch twice a week for school.
Everyone is a skeptic about religions they don't believe. However the atheist is consistent and skeptical about all religions while the believer gives their own religion a free pass. See my video "The Best Argument for Atheism" for a bit more on this.
just a side point,I see a Christmas tree, which leads me to believe that you celebrate Christmas [celebration of Christs birth Dec 25, not his birthday by the way, more like in October],if you don't believe in God, then surely there is no Gods son - Christ. So why celebrate? I find your vids interesting by the way.Despite my vids and Favorites,i watch a lot of your type of videos.
There is a Christmas tree in the video because I made the video on Dec 23 and my tree made an interesting and ironic backdrop. I'm not Christian but I do celebrate Christmas (and other holidays that might have a religious basis like Halloween and Easter) because it's traditional and fun. I don't believe in any gods, but I do believe in tradition and fun :)
haha, i love this vid - great post btw - i love the typical response to these questions, which is always "you can never 'test' god".
- now just a thought here, you say that jesus can not appear to anyone on command but thomas doubts that jesus came back from the dead and he suddenly appears... im still waiting
PS: I don't find your videos an attack. Its the responses which are aimed in a way to make me look stupid and you superior... Its not a pissing contest though I feel I have held my own. You seem interested in the topic enough to make 26 videos on it. Debate intelligently, if you feel so strongly. Thats all... No disrespect.
Thats not my intent at all... I have a healthy respect for your videos. I found you through the analysis of Derren Browns videos. Masterful... It was a great thing. Clicked found the stuff, couldnt help myself, and listened... And disagreed. So someone intelligent and thought you a worthy opponent for a debate. Its not my intent to play the role of a victim. Simply asking that we keep insults out and allow for an interesting and intellectual debate if you will...
This video isn't good for discussion/debate. Nothing supernatural (including the signs in Mark) has ever been documented and I doubt that will change. The video is here, but I'm quite certain there will be no replies (perhaps a faked video, but not an honest one). I'm open to seeing evidence of the supernatural but I won't hold my breath waiting. In the mean time I'm not really interested in discussing supposed reasons for why no one can prove the supernatural under test conditions.
Right, I cannot "on command". Its not my place to dabble with it. This is my belief. But let the Spirit give me the go ahead, something you may call a gut feeling, and I would be happy too... Unfortunately I don't document my life on camera 24/7. PS: I was raised that way (catholic) as well, became an atheist and after years of drug addiction, was instantly, overnight freed from my addiction just by accepting Him. Im curious were you raised Catholic? I have a problem with their teachings...
and finally, I also believe in hypnosis, ghosts or spirits, demons, nlp, evolution though through intelligent design and adaptation, survival of the fittest, etc; I don't knock you for your beliefs at all. When we take our last breath theres only one way to truly know, and its then. I don't appreciate an attack and I argue based on fact, believe it or not...
If you find my videos an attack, then don't watch them. If you don't want to discuss such things, then don't post on my videos either. But don't do both and then play the victim like some child when I respond.
in closing, I KNOW, I personally have been healed, been saved, seen others be saved, spoken in tongues, cast out demonic entities, been baptized by the Spirit and done all of these things through the power of the one true God, Jesus Christ! Say what you will, believe what you will...
and as for the science? No, you aren't going to find controlled experiments on snakebite or drinking poison because to do so would be completely retarded and gross misappropriation of funding for any respectable lab. However, you still can't even admit that yes! there are those odd times when, hypothetically a baby drinks some drano and for whatever reason, doesnt die? You going to say that similar events have NEVER happened before? That is astronomically retarded!
Generally speaking I would guess though you use the Bible to support your Atheist theory you don't spend much time in a church... If you truly want to witness such events take place, it might be a good place to hang out. If you don't believe in the gifts of the spirit, hang out in a spirit filled church! If you want to see, then go and with an open mind, see! Don't post garbage on youtube telling the world how close-minded you are and not do anything to further expand your mind...
I spent the first half of my life in church and given my background and rather extensive formal schooling in Christianity (before I became an atheist) I'm as informed on the subject as you, and I suspect even more so. Yet the real point remains that people seem unable to do the signs in Mark on demand. If you disagree, let's see it. Let's get an amputee healed on video for everyone to see the signs. You're a believer right? So do it. Or better yet admit the simple truth that you cannot.
Sorry, you're not going to find any support from science for drinking deadly things and having them not harm you... nor laying hands on sick people and having them recover. Such things are supernatural clap-trap and have never been observed under controlled scientific conditions.
BTW, i have noticed in debates with atheists, you seem to prefer to attack your adversaries rather than back what you say with fact, or even attempt to make a rebuttal based on fact. (Scientific or other) It seems logic takes a vacation in order to make way for the whole condescending-im-better-than-you crap. Come on, show some dignity by at least backing your claims with EVEN A PHILOSOPHY, maybe!? No, on second thought continue the whole "So are you going to heal an amputee or what?" stick...
It's not my claims that need backing. I'm not really making any claims, I'm asking theists to support their claims (and pointing out that they don't). This video is a good example... you're full of excuses rather than showing the supposed signs in Mark. Why don't you just admit it's old mythology and nobody can actually do such things instead of making excuses? If such things can be done, well let's see it already.
Oh yeah, btw, I have noticed a common link between atheists upon having someone reach out to them. It seems atheists though i will use your previous comment as a shining example tend to attack their adversaries and deny ignorantly the claims being made. You seem to lose the context and dare i say the TRUTH (scientific or other) in what is being said. Logic takes a vacation and condescending I'm better than you attitudes take its place...
That part of Mark is not seen as a challenge to a believer. People put too much emphasis on the things that don't suit their program. The Spirit opens the eyes of believers. You have your beliefs and I have mine, but my opinion? If you wanna get bit by cobras, your a moron and should know thats not what God was saying. Christians need to realize that God also gave us common sense for a reason.
None of your excuses change the fact that those signs are listed in Mark yet nobody can do them. If Mark wasn't dead you could take it up with him... give him your excuses, and maybe ask why that stuff is in there if its not to be done. Maybe he just likes writing things as a joke?
I'm not sure if you are familiar with The Crabb Family, they came from a small town in Kentucky, the pastor of the church that they had belonged to was indeed healed of HIV!!! Check it out!!! Then tell me that signs and wonders are a crock!!!
Haven´t you ever watched Benny Hinn and other ehibitionists on TV?...You may say: "Oh! but that´s a fake" or "Oh! any mind freak can perform that," or "Oh! science can explain that! But, to quote Mark while you´re at it, "...no sign shall be given (to unbelievers)" So, you´re wasting your time.
Um yeah I can upload a video of a trick. If you can upload a video of an actual amputee being healed go for it as that's what we're looking for. Thanks.
How would you tell it´s not a fake? But to get to your point...anyone with common sense will, instead of uploading it, first take the case (vid & amputee) to the scientific community for careful and honest appraisal and study. If convenient, they will upload it, not for entertainment, but for mankind´s benefit. As to blasfemy, what will you do in hell? We need you here, man. You´re doing a damn good job. Take care and thanks for you replies. (do you have other vids?)
And here you are with the very symbol of a tree behind you which refers in the bible symbolic to the Fir of Lebanon. Can you not say something with counter references why use a bible you don't accept. then espouse your so called wisdom. Are you so threatened by the posibility you may be wrong
We walk by faith not by sight. Look it up. Peace man.
You'll be pleased and releaved to know taht you DIDN'T blaspheme the Holy Sprit with that staement. As I've said, your understanding of Mark 16 is seriously lacking. Its an adnomition text, not an instruction or commandment.
If Christians could actually decide what blasphemy of the holy spirit actually was then atheists might do it. Until then one interpretation is as good as any other.
If we are all decended from Adam and Eve, does that mean we're all a bunch of inbreds? And that second generation... that would be brothers and sisters getting it on together. Yuch! I don't even want to think about it. Also, where'd Adam get all those other wives? Was he hookin' up with his daughters or something? Man, that Old Testament is a sicko piece of work!
Nice work, MystryBox. Not so much the video, because it's pretty easy to find something silly in the Bible to criticize, but your comments here show you to be a tolerant and considerate person.
That was cool man. The problem with those who have beliefs is that they don't really act like they do have strong belief. Usually the most they will do to show off how strong their beliefs are, is attack your beliefs. I think most of the time they're just trying to convince "themselves".
Gnatural quit it already - you are about to quote wayofthemaster - have an original thought for once. let me guess you're about to ask about have you broken any of the ten commandments...
my friend, wayofthemaster, takes the Biblical approach, they simply modified it to fit the times. the law of God has always been used in evangelism many times in the Bible.
No they try to set society back 1000 years with their noton that society should adhere to the old testament. They would seek to end scientific inquiry and free thought.
No I do having read the bible and my father is a minister (Anglican) and I understood the stories and know them well even as I do not believe in their divinity. Your laughable ideas about the age of the earth and support for kirk and ray (aka bananas & nightmares) is sad. Try a real church at least they won't take too much of your money.
if you truly understood and read the scripture, you would know that God is angry with sinnners everyday, and that everyday in which you do not repent you store up wrath for yourself on the day of judgement. why are you taking a chance with your soul?!
I have already stated to you that I am an atheist. I do not have a soul so your fears are not my fears. There is no evidence for a god of any kind so there is no reason to live a life of fear and dread for the big finality. Try fornication it may help you relax.
again it does not matter what you believe, you will stand before God on judgement day, if you stand in front of a freeway and see that you dont believe in trucks, is that going to change anything? of course not. your beginning to sound like a post-modernist.
Why did you not answer my question about Enoch? No answer about the village built by Cain after he was sent away? Who were the villagers and who was his wife? All these people just appeared as incestuous relations wouldn't explain all these others.
of course they would, adam and eves children had to marry eachother. but later, God would outlaw incest because of the curse of sin and its effect on genetics. Adam is clearly the first man (1 Corinthians 15:45) there were no other people on the planet aside from adam and eve.
Thats not a good answer as Cain is Adams only son at this point after killing Able, so again why is a village needed far where he was banished? Even had Adam had more children why would they be in Nod? It was Cains first wife and son as well according to the bible. It clearly shows other people lived on earth at this time.
You do not understand the bible. Here's one for you, why was Cain building a town called Enoch, which he named after his first son? He was driven from the LORD for killing Able and was in Nod, why the need for a town for himself, his wife (who was she?) and his son?
Don't flatter yourself gnatural. I am simply amazed at the level of crap you beleive and the crap you simply regurgitate in support of your version of christianity. Do you ever have an orignal thought and can you answer my biblical question as you purport to understand the bible?
It's just not in my field. The same thing applies to others about this passage. So when it's agreed by professionals that the author only gave the disciples powers, which wouldn't be the first time this happened, you should accept it. To get some perspective, it would be easier (or about as easy) to argue creationism than the interpretation that this passage applies today.
And which "experts" are these? And why would I believe them over what I can read with my own eyes? If you think so much of religious experts why don't just believe the Islamic "experts"? Or the Hindu "experts"? I think that you don't really believe "experts" any more than I do, except when they support what you already believe.
I don't believe in the bible for personal reasons. But I do agree with even the other non Christians who interpret the author this way. I also agree with most Islamic experts. We can study Homer and interpret his meanings on a fictional story. The same with the Bible. That book doesn't support what I already believe. It does support what I believe of the Jewish and Greek authors at that time which comes from other manuscripst. Let's just end this arguement, have the last word if you want to...
I'm sorry but as far as I can see you haven't demonstrated that you even have the least clue what you're talking about. You talk about experts but give no specifics. Heck, people tell me all the time the "experts" say the end of Mark was added later. Why don't you Christians get your story straight first, then bring it to the non-believers.
It doesn't seem like you're willing to change your stance, so i wont bother. But to any others who read this, just recognize this. In life, it's impossible to research or deeply study everything, so we have to rely for the most part on experts. I don't know much about evolution, and it doesn't seem like it's a sure thing, but i still accept it because I don't have enough evidence to show otherwise.
Why do you think I'm not willing to change my stance. I've changed my stance before, quite drastically--throwing out my entire world view to go with where I saw the evidence. And I could do it again if I thought it was the correct thing to do. Maybe it's YOU who isn't open to change, hmm?
The miracles to which you speak, were abilities given to the disciples. When Christianity was new, Jesus performed many miracles. The disciples were able to do many miracles in order to show people that God is real. Those abilities are not given to man today. Great question ! Open your heart. God will reveal himself to you.
It does not say in the bible that thee signs would end or were restricted to some time frame. It simply says believers will show certain signs. If you think it ended you have no biblical basis for that belief that I can see.
oh yeah, and if any christian say he can do this challege, laugh at him. It goes against everything he's hopefully learned in school and against his faith.
Not that the bible's true, but having graduated with a history major, I'll say how I interpreted this passage for when it was written. It sounds to me(and others will back me up on this)that that command was only geared towards early christians, probably until Paul came to the scene (there are records of this). This way Paul would have something to work with. This is how many early Christians came to their faith. Also, Matt 4:7 tells why those christians can't do this. Remember to the context.
You're not the first to say this. However you might want to explain how such a passage is limited to "until Paul came onto the scene"? Just saying it's so and mentioning a history major isn't very convincing. It sounds to my non-history-major ears that you're adding something to the bible that isn't there.
WOW! awesome "text proofing" (google it). The context of the passage in Mark is not a script for a magic show, Pop.
In modern english: "As you are doing what I have asked you to do (concerning telling people about me) those who believe will experience supernatural attestation to their new-found faith.
You did not blaspheme the Spirit. You denied the Spirit, who you never knew in the first place. Also, there are Snakehandling Pentecostal churches who meet every Sunday who rarely experience snakebites, and a few drink poison and live. I don't believe in tempting God like that, but I will say that FAITH has a lot to do with the poison thing you harped on.
Christians can't agree what blaspheme of the holy spirit is, so the Blaspheme Challenge picked one possible way. But it doesn't matter. If Christians could agree, atheists would do whatever they agreed on with no fear also. The point is the lack of fear, not the blaspheme.
You said "The point is the lack of fear, not the blaspheme(y)." The Bible says "Perfect love casts out all fear." That perfect love comes through the Holy Spirit. I ask you again, how can you blaspheme something or someone you never encountered? That'd be like me saying "I hate Spider-Man 3 and I renounce it from my life" when I've never seen it.
creton4, if it makes you feel better you can believe I didn't blaspheme the holy spirit correctly. I was Christian for most of my life though and I thought I had a handle on the HS. Now of course I think there is no HS, so you're right it's sort of silly to renounce what you think doesn't exist.
Wow I am amazed that you can say you were once a Christian and now don't beleive. I can only guess that you wern't really a Christian at all for you to be able to say that. For many years I thought I was a Christian and then let it go. I then encountered God for real and could never not beleieve ever again.
Christians can't agree what blaspheme of the holy spirit is, so the Blaspheme Challenge picked one possible way. But it doesn't matter. If Christians could agree, atheists would do whatever they agreed on with no fear also. The point is the lack of fear, not the blaspheme.
bottoms up...hey mystry im not sure if it will taste to pleasant but i think its time to drink some deadly poison :) well its almost time i gotta do something first :)
There are many instances of healings in the history of Christianity. As for drinking poison/Draino, what if some fundamentalist took you up on it and died? I suggest you do some field research in Appalachia if you're that interested in snake handling.
WinteRest49 1 month ago
@WinteRest49 yes I'm quite aware of the stupids in some places in the country that get hurt in various ways due to misplaced faith in an old book. In my reply video I clarify what shouldn't need to stated-- that nobody should actually try to drink poison. Also note that I'm not the one that wrote the bible and made the absurd claims people are getting hurt over--so put responsibility where it belongs.
MystryBox 1 month ago
@MystryBox I'm going to drink Mezcal on New Year's Eve. Does this qualify as poison? Secondly, I hold you personally responsible for the contents of Mark 16. Seriously, I read along time ago in footnotes that the passage was a later addition to the gospel. Even so, "later" is still first century and Mark is canon. The intention of the passage becomes interesting.
WinteRest49 1 month ago
@WinteRest49 I can't tell if you're serious or not. I assume not but believers can be nuts so it's difficult to tell sometimes.
MystryBox 1 month ago
@MystryBox I was joking about the Mezcal and you being personally responsible for Mark 16. I was serious about looking further into the passage. I am a believer and 'am nuts, but that's beside the point.
WinteRest49 1 month ago
Well, of course don't drink poison.
PrinceWalter 1 month ago
@PrinceWalter Reading 1Cor it isn't obvious to me that Paul is saying those signs would cease. And it's not me you need to convince anyway as I don't believe Paul (who never even met Jesus but just claimed a vision) or any of the rest of the NT authors (most of whom nobody even knows for sure who they were!). You need to convince the Christians out there rolling around the floor babbling incoherently and otherwise acting like such things haven't ceased.

I don't need to convince ANYBODY really.
But Mat 12:30 provides the Exclusive Disjunction.
If Christ is not casting out devils by the spirit of God and heralding a kingdom to Israel, I HAVE NO AUTHORITY to do so.
Mat 12:28 But IF I cast out devils by the Spirit of God (P), THEN the kingdom of God is come unto you. (Q)
Mat 21:43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you (~Q)
THEREFORE, Christ is NOT out devils by the Spirit of God (~P)

We do not do that the same reason Jesus did not jump off the highest point of the temple when Satan tempted him to (much like you are doing) Satan reminded Jesus that scripture affirms the angels will save him if he is the Son of God, and he shall not touch the ground. Jesus countered with Matthew 4: "Do not test your Lord God" Translation: DON'T CHALLENGE GOD. We shall not yield ourselves to death merely to "test drive" God's word.

how about ghosts? miracles? near death experiences? or exorcisms? the supernatural happens every day and is witnessed by a great many people.

CaribbeanSkies 1 year ago
@CaribbeanSkies Fortunately, Jesus took the devil’s words and put them back in the context of the rest of the Bible: “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God’” (verse 7). In other words, true Christians do not throw themselves off of high buildings or handle deadly snakes on purpose. There is a dramatic difference between faith and presumption!
CaribbeanSkies 1 year ago
"Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." Although we do believe that very holy people have been able to do great things, these are great miracles reserved for only the holiest of people (like Jesus). Then as to your blasphemy, yes, if you were religious beforehand and understood the reasonableness of faith and chose to deny God, that seems to me to be an unforgivable sin. But only so because the person that commits it does not want it to be forgiven (forgiveness is impossible without belief).
orion7763 2 years ago
What a bunch of unsupported bombastic claptrap. Please spare me. You might be a mind-slave to fanciful notions from ancient fishermen, but I'm not. I'm a responsible adult and try to have good reasons for the things I believe.
MystryBox 2 years ago
Good for you. So do I, but I want to get to heaven.
orion7763 2 years ago
I was trying to answer your specific question, and you seem rather close minded (and it boggles me) that you would put up a video specifically saying "challenge for believers", and yet when a believer does come up you immediately scoff them away because you say your system is better. That I do not understand.
orion7763 2 years ago
You didn't respond to the challenge. The challenge is for you to heal the sick or drink something deadly and have it not harm you to show the signs that follow true believers. You gave some excuse rather than do what the bible says you should be able to do, and then on top of that you start lecturing. So don't act surprised when I show little respect or patience for you.
MystryBox 2 years ago
By posting a video titled "challenge for believers" I would have imagine that you wanted dialogue between theists and non-theists. In other words, I did not expect that you would "show little respect or patience." This is no such dialogue- just a forum for atheists. Goodbye.
orion7763 2 years ago
It should be obvious from this video there is no real dialog expected. You cannot heal the sick as the bible says you can nor can you drink any deadly thing and have it not harm you. You know it and I know it. The bible is wrong. So no, I didn't expect any real dialog from theists on this video.

as for the poisons, my faith is not at a place where i can do that

1. it doesnt destine you that making a simple statement automatically denies you from heaven.
2. NO ONE can predict the future. you can make reasonable assesments but no one can for certain. which would make it so taht one day you might change your mind on what you believe. if that day comes a person making this statement becomes irrelevent and can actually be forgiven

So challenge complete, you lose.
jj1only 4 years ago
Yes, I'm fully aware of these churches. Somebody dies in them occasionally and it hits the news. A woman in KY died just last year. You can read about them on wikipedia by looking under snake handling. However I'm not impressed by a bit of snake handling or tiny sips of poison. I drank something deadly myself in the response video. I want to see an amputee healed. Are you game?
MystryBox 4 years ago
whether you're impressed or not, it happened. if it's a sip or a gallon, poison is poison. you didn't drink anything deadly in the video, you don't believe in God right? So your soul is not in danger because you're denying a Spirit you never believed in. As far as the amputee thing, I haven't seen it with my own eyes, but yes I'm game. I'll try to find something tangible as long as you're open to receiving. oh & I believe because of personal experience, not because of my parents.
jj1only 4 years ago
What I drink in that video is poison. Over 1000 people die of alcohol poisoning every year. Of course in smaller quantities it isn't deadly, and that's exactly what those pentacostals do... they just drink such a small amount of poison it isn't deadly. Drink a DEADLY amount of poison or heal an amputee or someone with AIDS if you want anyone to think there's something special going on.
MystryBox 4 years ago
Oh brother, here we go again. the open minded rational thinker is being close minded as usual. How do you know it isn't deadly? how do you know how much they drink? how do you know they're pentacostal? If wikipedia is your source, then I can see why you have so many trouble believing. church is not about giving you a show, it's about bringing you to a personal relationship with God. We don't need to make you think something special is going on.
jj1only 4 years ago
Also I'm not looking for things you can find. Heck I can google and find all sorts of claims of supposed miracles from every religion. I want YOU to do what the bible says you can do. I put my soul on the line for what I believed. Can YOU heal an amputee? If not, why not?
MystryBox 4 years ago
If I can't heal an amputee, it's because of the lack of faith in me or the person who needs to be healed. The Bible clearly states that Jesus couldn't do miracles in his own homeland because of the lack of faith there. you didn't put your soul on any line. All you did was say words in your declaration. A muslim terrorist can say the pledge of allegiance, does that make him an american ally in his heart?
jj1only 4 years ago
and why do you want ME to do what the bible says I can do? the bible says that I'm responsible for my own soul, not to do magic tricks so that people can believe. miracles are possible, not imparative, especially not to make someone believe. If that's the case, then I would be God because you see me doing the miracle, not Him.
jj1only 4 years ago
Mark 16 says certain signs will follow those that believe. I think it's bogus. I don't believe people can heal amputees on faith. If I'm wrong I want someone to show me, not make excuses or empty claims about what they heard someone else do. So far no one has. You're here and seem to believe it, so do it if you can. I don't think you can. I don't think anyone can. I think the bible is wrong. But I'm willing to be shown wrong. But I want evidence, not excuses.
MystryBox 4 years ago
You're absolutely right, PEOPLE don't heal thru faith, God heals thru people with faith. Now I can't do what you're asking because I would have to be right in front of you in order for you to believe it (which in your mind is an excuse), so all I can say is that I will keep praying that God will one day show exactly what you're asking. Until then, keep the non-faith my friend.
jj1only 4 years ago

The lesson here is for believers like you, not skeptics like me. I never expected you to do the challenge because I'm quite sure you can't. This is because it's a fantasy. By challenging you I try to get you to face the fiction that you believe, if only a little. You know if you're lying to yourself or not.
MystryBox 4 years ago
I think your bogus
princeton91r 4 years ago
I think you should learn the difference between your and you're.
MystryBox 4 years ago
It doesn't make sense to have faith in something that there's no reason to believe is there. The only reason people believe in God is the stories in the bible. There are hundreds of versions of the bible, how can people think that only theirs is right?
dca843 4 years ago
People believe because they were taught to believe by their parents and culture. The bible has little to do with it... most don't even read the bible. Other cultures believe something different again because that's what they were taught. Religion follows culture--this shows it is not objective or True, instead it is like fashion.
MystryBox 4 years ago
Weak challenge!
Try a real challenge and honestly seek the Truth.
In Christ
TruthWar 4 years ago
Unfortunately for you Mark says the signs of healing, drinking poison and not being hurt, etc. are signs that will follow those that believe. So if you disagree you should take it up with Mark instead of me.
MystryBox 4 years ago
I don't disagree w/ scripture. You're the one that posted the challenge and I gave texts that support it and yet you don't believe! The issue is not between you and I, its between you and God!
This shows you are not willing to accept any answer, be it true or false since it does not meet your presuppositions. Stop wasting time w/ challenges than.
TruthWar 4 years ago
Mark says signs will follow believers. You pointed out a scripture that says something else. I don't really care if that's a biblical contradiction or other information. I just want to see the signs that mark clearly says follow those that believe. If you can't do it, that doesn't surprise me because I think it's all bull.
MystryBox 4 years ago
If it were like fashion than it be just like the theory of evolution. Changes and evolves -that is the theory of course.
Christianity is actually a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Religion won't save you.
TruthWar 4 years ago
Yeah I have a lot to say.
True, many don't read their bibles, one can tell from the responses you've received. It also explains your ignorance if you once were a self-professing "christian". But truth outweighs your presupposition of the non-existence of God.
You need more faith to believe in the theory of evolution - which is not operational science.
Again I challenge you, do some real research.

And logic alone. can unfold ...normally unseen realties... ... not any particular individual.

just a side point,I see a Christmas tree, which leads me to believe that you celebrate Christmas [celebration of Christs birth Dec 25, not his birthday by the way, more like in October],if you don't believe in God, then surely there is no Gods son - Christ. There is a Christmas tree in the video because I made the video on Dec 23 and my tree made an interesting and ironic backdrop. oblivionchilde 4 years ago
Simply asking that we keep insults out and allow for an interesting and intellectual debate if you will...
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
This video isn't good for discussion/debate. Nothing supernatural (including the signs in Mark) has ever been documented and I doubt that will change. The video is here, but I'm quite certain there will be no replies (perhaps a faked video, but not an honest one). I'm open to seeing evidence of the supernatural but I won't hold my breath waiting. In the mean time I'm not really interested in discussing supposed reasons for why no one can prove the supernatural under test conditions.
MystryBox 4 years ago
Right, I cannot "on command". Its not my place to dabble with it. This is my belief. But let the Spirit give me the go ahead, something you may call a gut feeling, and I would be happy too... Unfortunately I don't document my life on camera 24/7. PS: I was raised that way (catholic) as well, became an atheist and after years of drug addiction, was instantly, overnight freed from my addiction just by accepting Him. Im curious were you raised Catholic? I have a problem with their teachings...
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
It seems to me it might take more "faith" to be an atheist... Ya'll are committed to the lie!
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
and finally, I also believe in hypnosis, ghosts or spirits, demons, nlp, evolution though through intelligent design and adaptation, survival of the fittest, etc; I don't knock you for your beliefs at all. When we take our last breath theres only one way to truly know, and its then. I don't appreciate an attack and I argue based on fact, believe it or not...
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
If you find my videos an attack, then don't watch them. If you don't want to discuss such things, then don't post on my videos either. But don't do both and then play the victim like some child when I respond.

in closing, I KNOW, I personally have been healed, been saved, seen others be saved, spoken in tongues, cast out demonic entities, been baptized by the Spirit and done all of these things through the power of the one true God, Jesus Christ! Say what you will, believe what you will...
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
and as for the science? No, you aren't going to find controlled experiments on snakebite or drinking poison because to do so would be completely retarded and gross misappropriation of funding for any respectable lab. However, you still can't even admit that yes! there are those odd times when, hypothetically a baby drinks some drano and for whatever reason, doesnt die? You going to say that similar events have NEVER happened before? That is astronomically retarded!
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
Generally speaking I would guess though you use the Bible to support your Atheist theory you don't spend much time in a church... If you truly want to witness such events take place, it might be a good place to hang out. If you don't believe in the gifts of the spirit, hang out in a spirit filled church! If you want to see, then go and with an open mind, see! Don't post garbage on youtube telling the world how close-minded you are and not do anything to further expand your mind...
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
I spent the first half of my life in church and given my background and rather extensive formal schooling in Christianity (before I became an atheist) I'm as informed on the subject as you, and I suspect even more so. Yet the real point remains that people seem unable to do the signs in Mark on demand. If you disagree, let's see it. Let's get an amputee healed on video for everyone to see the signs. You're a believer right? So do it. Or better yet admit the simple truth that you cannot.
MystryBox 4 years ago
Maybe if I say it from two different perspectives, one might get through... Or shall we debate that too?
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
Sorry, you're not going to find any support from science for drinking deadly things and having them not harm you... nor laying hands on sick people and having them recover. Such things are supernatural clap-trap and have never been observed under controlled scientific conditions.
MystryBox 4 years ago

MystryBox 4 years ago
Oh yeah, btw, I have noticed a common link between atheists upon having someone reach out to them. It seems atheists though i will use your previous comment as a shining example tend to attack their adversaries and deny ignorantly the claims being made. You seem to lose the context and dare i say the TRUTH (scientific or other) in what is being said. Logic takes a vacation and condescending I'm better than you attitudes take its place...
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
That part of Mark is not seen as a challenge to a believer. People put too much emphasis on the things that don't suit their program. The Spirit opens the eyes of believers. You have your beliefs and I have mine, but my opinion? If you wanna get bit by cobras, your a moron and should know thats not what God was saying. Christians need to realize that God also gave us common sense for a reason.
oblivionchilde 4 years ago
None of your excuses change the fact that those signs are listed in Mark yet nobody can do them. If Mark wasn't dead you could take it up with him... give him your excuses, and maybe ask why that stuff is in there if its not to be done. Maybe he just likes writing things as a joke?
MystryBox 4 years ago
Actually, oblivionchilde is wrong.
That's exactly what Jesus meant. But it's true that it was for the apostolic age and not for this age.

I'm not sure if you are familiar with The Crabb Family, they came from a small town in Kentucky, the pastor of the church that they had belonged to was indeed healed of HIV!!! Check it out!!! Then tell me that signs and wonders are a crock!!!

Nice to hear there's at least one believer in the world. Have him heal and amputee and put the video up on here.
MystryBox 4 years ago
Haven´t you ever watched Benny Hinn and other ehibitionists on TV?...You may say: "Oh! but that´s a fake" or "Oh! any mind freak can perform that," or "Oh! science can explain that! But, to quote Mark while you´re at it, "...no sign shall be given (to unbelievers)" So, you´re wasting your time.
ruffomaldito 4 years ago
So are you going to heal an amputee or what?
MystryBox 4 years ago
Yeap! Not only that, I can cut a woman in half. Do you want me to upload a video? or, how about a man walking on water or through a wall?
ruffomaldito 4 years ago
Um yeah I can upload a video of a trick. If you can upload a video of an actual amputee being healed go for it as that's what we're looking for. Thanks.
MystryBox 4 years ago
How would you tell it´s not a fake? But to get to your point...anyone with common sense will, instead of uploading it, first take the case (vid & amputee) to the scientific community for careful and honest appraisal and study. If convenient, they will upload it, not for entertainment, but for mankind´s benefit. As to blasfemy, what will you do in hell? We need you here, man. You´re doing a damn good job. Take care and thanks for you replies. (do you have other vids?)
ruffomaldito 4 years ago
And here you are with the very symbol of a tree behind you which refers in the bible symbolic to the Fir of Lebanon. Can you not say something with counter references why use a bible you don't accept. then espouse your so called wisdom. Are you so threatened by the posibility you may be wrong
We walk by faith not by sight. Look it up. Peace man.

Great simple logic. No scientific or theological reasoning is necessary

You'll be pleased and releaved to know taht you DIDN'T blaspheme the Holy Sprit with that staement. As I've said, your understanding of Mark 16 is seriously lacking. Its an adnomition text, not an instruction or commandment.
dingle1 4 years ago
If Christians could actually decide what blasphemy of the holy spirit actually was then atheists might do it. Until then one interpretation is as good as any other.

If we are all decended from Adam and Eve, does that mean we're all a bunch of inbreds? And that second generation... that would be brothers and sisters getting it on together. Yuch! I don't even want to think about it. Also, where'd Adam get all those other wives? Was he hookin' up with his daughters or something? Man, that Old Testament is a sicko piece of work!
Chompchompyerded 4 years ago
Nice work, MystryBox. Not so much the video, because it's pretty easy to find something silly in the Bible to criticize, but your comments here show you to be a tolerant and considerate person.

Adam and eve had sons and daughters, nowhere in the Bible does it say the cain if the first.

That was cool man. The problem with those who have beliefs is that they don't really act like they do have strong belief. Usually the most they will do to show off how strong their beliefs are, is attack your beliefs. I think most of the time they're just trying to convince "themselves".
bootstaple 4 years ago
and i bet you probably believe your a good person right?
gnatural 4 years ago
Gnatural quit it already - you are about to quote wayofthemaster - have an original thought for once. let me guess you're about to ask about have you broken any of the ten commandments...
ricko1111 4 years ago
my friend, wayofthemaster, takes the Biblical approach, they simply modified it to fit the times. the law of God has always been used in evangelism many times in the Bible.
gnatural 4 years ago
No they corrupt it and misuse to make money. Are you Kirk Cameron?
ricko1111 4 years ago
No they try to set society back 1000 years with their noton that society should adhere to the old testament. They would seek to end scientific inquiry and free thought.
ricko1111 4 years ago
you clearly have no understanding of scripture.
gnatural 4 years ago
No I do having read the bible and my father is a minister (Anglican) and I understood the stories and know them well even as I do not believe in their divinity. Your laughable ideas about the age of the earth and support for kirk and ray (aka bananas & nightmares) is sad. Try a real church at least they won't take too much of your money.
ricko1111 4 years ago
if you truly understood and read the scripture, you would know that God is angry with sinnners everyday, and that everyday in which you do not repent you store up wrath for yourself on the day of judgement. why are you taking a chance with your soul?!
gnatural 4 years ago
I have already stated to you that I am an atheist. I do not have a soul so your fears are not my fears. There is no evidence for a god of any kind so there is no reason to live a life of fear and dread for the big finality. Try fornication it may help you relax.
ricko1111 4 years ago
again it does not matter what you believe, you will stand before God on judgement day, if you stand in front of a freeway and see that you dont believe in trucks, is that going to change anything? of course not. your beginning to sound like a post-modernist.
gnatural 4 years ago
Why did you not answer my question about Enoch? No answer about the village built by Cain after he was sent away? Who were the villagers and who was his wife? All these people just appeared as incestuous relations wouldn't explain all these others.
ricko1111 4 years ago
of course they would, adam and eves children had to marry eachother. but later, God would outlaw incest because of the curse of sin and its effect on genetics. Adam is clearly the first man (1 Corinthians 15:45) there were no other people on the planet aside from adam and eve.
gnatural 4 years ago
Thats not a good answer as Cain is Adams only son at this point after killing Able, so again why is a village needed far where he was banished? Even had Adam had more children why would they be in Nod? It was Cains first wife and son as well according to the bible. It clearly shows other people lived on earth at this time.
ricko1111 4 years ago
where does it say that Cain is adams only son?
gnatural 4 years ago
well, if you understood the Bible, you would understand that you have not commited the unforgivable sin. thank goodness.
gnatural 4 years ago
You do not understand the bible. Here's one for you, why was Cain building a town called Enoch, which he named after his first son? He was driven from the LORD for killing Able and was in Nod, why the need for a town for himself, his wife (who was she?) and his son?
ricko1111 4 years ago
and why are you following me around?
gnatural 4 years ago
Don't flatter yourself gnatural. I am simply amazed at the level of crap you beleive and the crap you simply regurgitate in support of your version of christianity. Do you ever have an orignal thought and can you answer my biblical question as you purport to understand the bible?
ricko1111 4 years ago
Haha. You probably know this, but a clip of you saying "I deny" was on nightline in their peice about the rational response squad

It's just not in my field. The same thing applies to others about this passage. So when it's agreed by professionals that the author only gave the disciples powers, which wouldn't be the first time this happened, you should accept it. To get some perspective, it would be easier (or about as easy) to argue creationism than the interpretation that this passage applies today.
ralcaraz3 4 years ago
And which "experts" are these? And why would I believe them over what I can read with my own eyes? If you think so much of religious experts why don't just believe the Islamic "experts"? Or the Hindu "experts"? I think that you don't really believe "experts" any more than I do, except when they support what you already believe.
MystryBox 4 years ago
I don't believe in the bible for personal reasons. But I do agree with even the other non Christians who interpret the author this way. I also agree with most Islamic experts. We can study Homer and interpret his meanings on a fictional story. The same with the Bible. That book doesn't support what I already believe. It does support what I believe of the Jewish and Greek authors at that time which comes from other manuscripst. Let's just end this arguement, have the last word if you want to...
ralcaraz3 4 years ago
I'm sorry but as far as I can see you haven't demonstrated that you even have the least clue what you're talking about. You talk about experts but give no specifics. Heck, people tell me all the time the "experts" say the end of Mark was added later. Why don't you Christians get your story straight first, then bring it to the non-believers.
MystryBox 4 years ago
It doesn't seem like you're willing to change your stance, so i wont bother. But to any others who read this, just recognize this. In life, it's impossible to research or deeply study everything, so we have to rely for the most part on experts. I don't know much about evolution, and it doesn't seem like it's a sure thing, but i still accept it because I don't have enough evidence to show otherwise.
ralcaraz3 4 years ago
Why do you think I'm not willing to change my stance. I've changed my stance before, quite drastically--throwing out my entire world view to go with where I saw the evidence. And I could do it again if I thought it was the correct thing to do. Maybe it's YOU who isn't open to change, hmm?
MystryBox 4 years ago
The miracles to which you speak, were abilities given to the disciples. When Christianity was new, Jesus performed many miracles. The disciples were able to do many miracles in order to show people that God is real. Those abilities are not given to man today. Great question ! Open your heart. God will reveal himself to you.
bornagain001 4 years ago
It does not say in the bible that thee signs would end or were restricted to some time frame. It simply says believers will show certain signs. If you think it ended you have no biblical basis for that belief that I can see.
MystryBox 4 years ago
oh yeah, and if any christian say he can do this challege, laugh at him. It goes against everything he's hopefully learned in school and against his faith.
ralcaraz3 4 years ago
Not that the bible's true, but having graduated with a history major, I'll say how I interpreted this passage for when it was written. It sounds to me(and others will back me up on this)that that command was only geared towards early christians, probably until Paul came to the scene (there are records of this). This way Paul would have something to work with. This is how many early Christians came to their faith. Also, Matt 4:7 tells why those christians can't do this. Remember to the context.
ralcaraz3 4 years ago
You're not the first to say this. However you might want to explain how such a passage is limited to "until Paul came onto the scene"? Just saying it's so and mentioning a history major isn't very convincing. It sounds to my non-history-major ears that you're adding something to the bible that isn't there.
MystryBox 4 years ago
Heh, thanks for the comments. And I suspect four more months and there will still be no Christian responses :)
MystryBox 4 years ago
WOW! awesome "text proofing" (google it).

I don't believe in tempting God like that, but I will say that FAITH has a lot to do with the poison thing you harped on.
creton4 4 years ago
Christians can't agree what blaspheme of the holy spirit is, so the Blaspheme Challenge picked one possible way. But it doesn't matter. If Christians could agree, atheists would do whatever they agreed on with no fear also. The point is the lack of fear, not the blaspheme.
MystryBox 4 years ago
You said "The point is the lack of fear, not the blaspheme(y)." The Bible says "Perfect love casts out all fear." That perfect love comes through the Holy Spirit. I ask you again, how can you blaspheme something or someone you never encountered? That'd be like me saying "I hate Spider-Man 3 and I renounce it from my life" when I've never seen it.
creton4 4 years ago
creton4, if it makes you feel better you can believe I didn't blaspheme the holy spirit correctly. I was Christian for most of my life though and I thought I had a handle on the HS. Now of course I think there is no HS, so you're right it's sort of silly to renounce what you think doesn't exist.
MystryBox 4 years ago
Wow I am amazed that you can say you were once a Christian and now don't beleive. I can only guess that you wern't really a Christian at all for you to be able to say that. For many years I thought I was a Christian and then let it go. I then encountered God for real and could never not beleieve ever again.
brockton123 4 years ago
believe it.

Christians can't agree what blaspheme of the holy spirit is, so the Blaspheme Challenge picked one possible way. But it doesn't matter. If Christians could agree, atheists would do whatever they agreed on with no fear also. The point is the lack of fear, not the blaspheme.
