Masterguard's smoke detectors are actually made by Gentex which is headquartered in western Michigan. After a little shopping online, I found the same alarm shown in the video for anywhere between $30 and $50. The only difference is the name on the cover.
In a house with 8 total alarms, you could spend $250 (shipping included) for the Gentex alarms or you could spend $3,000 for Masterguard.
BTW, you accidentally left out a couple quotes in Masterguard's reply, so to be of assistance, here they are:
...it is difficult to see how you could seriously believe that an unscientific one-time staged demonstration of several new alarms contains any validity at all, scientific or otherwise. Indeed, it has none. To have any validity, you need a research design...
...fire safety experts and organizations agree that homeowners need better and more fire protection and education...

Your stupid unscientific method got pwnzed by a 5th grader who actually did things without a biased agenda. So here's something to report if you actually want to be "fair" and not just providing slanderous remarks based on the opinions of unqualified individuals and unfair unscientific tests.

Why did I spend hundreds of dollars? Because I actually care about my family and don't even try to justify how my family isn't worth that much money.
Mr. reporter sir, WHY is there a difference between commercial alarms and residential alarms? WHY would we force commercial companies to buy systems for 200times more cost with Simplex, Fire Systems, or Rehau, that work allegedly SLOWER for a code that is more STRICT?
It only takes half a brain to know you're being unfair, and perhaps that's why you needed to do an UNSCIENTIFIC test to actually fulfill your agenda. Unbiased news at its finest.
that one alarm probaly wold not even sound off if IT was on fire
