There seems to be a high level of bad feeling between parties on this thread. I think it fair to point out that the Royal Navy were doing a job given to us by our government and in exactly the same way, the Icelandic lads were at sea doing their duty to the Icelandic government. I cannot recall there ever being malice toward the crews of Tyr, Ver, Aegir and Baldur, but a certain admiration for their professionalism at sea. We were all just doing our duty and trying very hard not to kill anyone..

Basically, Iceland claimed a right to exclude foreign fishing vessels from nearby international waters.

Icelandic gun boats fired on civilian British trawlers on several occasions. In one occurrence it had fired several shots and closed on the trawler about to fire from close range when a British warship appeared. The gunboat was informed that if it fired again it would be sunk. It departed quickly.

nice vid :) I don't know Icelandic, just a bit of Swedish so couldn't understand at all but I think they announced the capitulation of the English :)
