Hey Zander I just posted a cover of this version on YouTube, check it out. Yours is far better, but I am glad I could play something to sound like it. One of my top favorites from you since day one. Thank you.
I am amazed at how perfect and quickly you hit those chords using all four fingers ecspecially your middle. How the heck do you do it? Wow!!!! Got my work cut out for me, and I didn't even get to the triplet part yet, lol. I don't know if I can trim my middle fingers nail any shorter to really nail those chords, lol. You are an amazing musician Zander.
This is one of the nicest pieces I've heard played on a bass, loving that effect too. Nice one! Also, your double notes at the end was ridiculously good, very impressive. :P
You made my day, thank you. Musically, that was a wonder. Technically, that was clever and audacious : your tapping, at some points, just sound like Tommy Emmanuel's waterfall harmonics, and your flamenco/gypsy style finish made me falling off my chair.
man this is the 3rd video i seen of yours that is so cool and i like the complete apposite of you i am a mexican american full of tattoos like completely different but am considering buying a bass guitar maybe in a 100 yrs ill sound THAT GOOD THATS THE SHITTTTTTT - PHOENIX
Is it just me, or is there anyone else who feels that he have different haircuts in all his videos.... oh btw i love your videos so damnnnn muchh !!! :D
no, i'm not. victor wooten's technique is: thumb down, thumb up, first finger pop, second finger pop. the technique i'm using is more similar to matthew garrison's four finger technique, which is all plucks: thumb, first, second, third - and the pattern continues. i'm also using my thumb to play arpeggios on the lower strings. :)
As a Cellist, I must say that the true potential of the bass is really shown here. Superb work here. Just beyond words. This will be one of the only few Cd's in my collection that feature only a solo bass. Thank you for your excellent musicality and talent.
Till now if something was liked generally always I wanted to learn it but this so much good to keep silent totally turns off my brain and I do not look at it how you play it, but that this some unconscious beautiful one congratulations your knowledge you are a treasure. Was worthy already because of this to look up youtube. This is simple fucking awesome. I do not learn to play a probable level like this on a bass guitar if you are not a teacher only :D Beautiful thank you that you put it up. :)
Es maravillo poder ser testigo, aunque sea virtualmente, del avance de la tecnología y su uso mezclado con la belleza de la música, felicidades al interprete.
Very good! And, not at all what I was expecting. I'd just seen your arrangement of "She Danced," and I was expecting to see you use your sequencer quite a lot for this Canon, as well, layering each voice up in turn. That you've accomplished such a wonderful interpretation of it without depending on the sequencer leaves me awestruck and pleasantly surprised. I'm going to have to order a CD soon, I think.
I think this is really really good, but I do have just one small complaint. I was hoping that since it was for bass guitar, it would sound like a bass. How did you get it to sound like that anyway? Don't get me wrong, I love it, I just was hoping it would've sounded like a bass.
@piff235 piccolo strings.....which i think (emphasis on the word think) are tuned an octave higher than standard....but im not sure i know the strings aren't as deep as standard strings
@cameronj279 Ok, that makes so much more sense! I thought it was a MIDI patch that was making it sound different. Suddenly I like this video a lot more.
Is it possible for you to let the strings continue to ring after you let go of the strings?(like a piano's sustain pedal) because it would sound better that way.
the only pedal he may be using is something for the reverb. hes using piccolo strings wich r an octave higher than normal bass strings, but not as thin as guitar strings. and with the headless bass, it creates amazing sustain, because the strings dont have to be wrapped around a post
amazing sound from a bass. initially, i didn't understand how u can get that tone until i read the comments.
can u tell me more details about your tone?? apart from altered tunings, what do u do?? i really really love that tone, i'm gonna watch all of your vids, i assume they will be very beautiful. ;)
Great performance, lovely piece - linked to through Donnaduckpoole's channel. The unusual tone is, as far as I can see, because the bass is down tuned to C tuning - Low C, F, Bb, Eb, then the recording is transposed up an octave giving it that wirey ethereal tone - nearer guitar range, plus using bright spanking new strings and some reverb. Use that, or any other bass, in standard tuning and pitch, and you won't get that sound. It's not the bass itself, it's what he's done with it. Great though.
@steveTheBass1 The bass is not tuned down at all. It's in piccolo tuning with extremely light strings. The "G" string is actually plain, it's that light. D'Addario make the strings. I have them on 1 of my basses.
They say the musician makes the instrument... but there's no way any person could play something like this, with such accuracy, precision, harmony, and perfection as you have; without an amazing instrument as the one you own. I don't know how much time it will take me to do this, and i hardly think i'm ever gonna be as good as this guy, but i'm gonna own such an amazing bass one day... it is worth it.
simply beautiful. I wish you would teach me how to play bass like this... its simply the most magical sound that I have ever heard from an instrument.
Great job man. Bought your solo album and I love it!!. All the songs are an inspiration. I've been playing for a few years and I find it awesome what your doing. Hope you are doing well and take care!...
Truly superb music making! In this video, your playing transcends technique and really communicates feelings. Very hard to do on bass! Absolutely lovely!
I'm just an old thumper, but I do get to play with Clyde Stubblefield on drums, so that's not too bad, but your musicianship is really inspiring, especially for someone so young! Thanks for the beautiful music!
