  • good sense of humor and playing!

  • Great playing! That fiddle sounds fantastic!

  • Loved it. This from another person who wished that they didn't quit when they were younger. Wife bought me a violin for Christmas and am enjoying it now more than ever. Keep it up!!!

  • I love this! Fantastic playing! I must learn it! =]]

  • Hot Damn!

  • Rock on! Good job man! Great fiddle.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed watching your hair flip around during the shuffle.

I always try to stop my head from flailing about during shuffles like that and end up fizzling miserably.

    You're great!

  • I want to learn how to play.

  • wow that is amazing and i play the violin and its my first time cus im playing it in school but i can never do that crazy!!! very nice!!

  • :))))

  • I cracked up the moment he slid the musicbook off the stand...that was me when I was a kid taking lessons, I didn't want to play that stuff, I wanted to jam some bluegrass tunes, not Mary had a little lamb! :)

  • @cowgurlhank LMAO!! I know I used to do the same thing, I started learning around a year ago, i'd piff mary had a little lamb and twinkle little start out my bed room window and pull out some epic tunes and practise on them, I'm much better off for doing that.

  • You look like seizure man trying to seduce someone.

  • Hey, do you think you could help a fellow violinist find this music? (for free preferably since I'm on the poor side right now) I wanna saw away too!

  • this tune is called rubber dolly for the people who wanted to know :)

  • You got it!

  • guys, can you help me where i can find these "old times" or bluegrass note sheets for violin? in my country there is noone nearby playing such songs, and i would like to try play it;P

  • what's the name of the song?:) I want to learn it to:3

  • very very good

  • you should consider challenging the devil someday....

  • i wonder how natural the head bobbin realy is... or did he just realy get into it?

  • Daaaaaaaaaaaang!!!

  • he's got the Conan O'brian hair thing down LawLzzz

  • I was trying to decide if I should get a violen (for fiddle mostly) because me and my band friends are all taking on new instruments, one is doing banjo and the other guitar and we all originally play wind instruments. I wanted to know if I wanted to try violen, and you convenced me!!! =D

  • What a compliment! Thank you, and great luck and fun on the fiddle

  • he's jerkin' his head like he on weed, lol.

  • Awesome . . . you really get into it.

  • I hope you like our music. If you want to hire us, we are available. Call 413-351-2261

    Thanks, Jim & Adam

  • thats amamamamamamamazzzinng!!!

  • Haha, I love the entrance.

  • Stylish

  • Bravo! Spectacular!!

  • Exact same instrument. Main difference is strings. They can make tremendous difference in sound. Bridge height and the rest is personal preference.

  • yeep, thats what i've concluded..no diff. between voilans and fiddles but the strings are tunned differentely tho.

  • Where did you learn English? LOL

Come on, seriously... voilans? tunned? differentely?

  • ure talkin to who ?

  • thats some entrance buddy ha ha good tunes

  • Different strings, tuned differently, flat bridges? No, they are the same instrument. I remember going to a rehearsal and playing Dvorak #8 just to drive 70 miles and play for Ray Price the same night. They are the same freakin instrument.

  • what diff. between fiddles and voilens ?

  • Lol, I spent soooooo goddamn long trying to learn what the difference is and all the "masters" tried to do was confuse me, and I don't really wanna tell you because I'll probably have somebody come and say I'm wrong but their the same instrument its just a fiddle has bin modified or hence "fiddled" with to make it sound how you want it to sound, celtic, bluegrass w.e so they come as a violin then you modify it into a fiddle, you'll probably get an answer here soon saying "about $6000".

  • lol, am waitin for new gd answers. and ure answer is convinced me ;D,,

    Thanx dude.

  • @FreakyxXxscreamo How it's played.

  • no physical difference in the instrument. fiddle is simply a completely different style. It's not as strict as traditional classical style, at it's often improvised.

  • Best answer I have ever seen is that you never get beer on a violin

  • mozart suck. keep up the bluegrass.

  • dude mozart is a beast but bluegrass is awesome as well

  • haha...the entrance was awesome!!!Loved the whole thing though really!

  • You make me want to leave this right now and pick up my fiddle! You are entertaining dude =]

  • dammmmmmnn!!

  • LMAO u remind me of ma sister!!She learned fiddle while classic music!!

  • Yay! - double shuffle!

  • Boy, drop that Mozart and keep up the fiddlin'! I'd like to hear you do Orange Blossom Special!

  • Great man! was that some classical stuff on your stand? Sounds really good :-)

  • I believe that he threw the sheet music off because bluegrass music is known for playing by ear and NOT reading sheet music.

  • How long have you been playing?

    Very nice btw ;)

  • Thanks! Playing since I was about 4 yrs old

  • How long have you been playing?

  • Hahah wow!! That was weird but good. lol at your entrance :P

  • very nice

  • We all just love the upper-half of the bow :p

  • it was good but my mom is better... then again shes been playing bluegrass since she was five

  • i love you. haha

  • I should have just said good job. It was good though.

  • He didn't write that. I've heard that before.

  • THIS IS FUCKIN SICK!! the movement of your hair makes it even better

  • Saw that fiddle! You got good speed

  • We've found him at last: YUMPIN' YIMINI !!!

Gee, I wish more people would behave like this, all the time not just on YT either. HOP over there, SWEEP the music out the way, do funny fun stuff, do hard stuff, show off, make everyone laugh, we need more of that

"A clown is a warrior who fights gloom." -Red Skelton

  • By the way, you probably know Rubber Dolly is a girls' play song from long ago.

There are a number of versions out on the web worth listening to, including by Daniel Carwile (Texas style), Ned Landry (Canadian), Johnny Gimble (Western Swing), and various bluegrass versions from Vassar Clements to Darol Anger to Benny Martin.

  • Good start, but it's not bluegrass yet. Here's some legitimate critique.

You've got double shuffle down ok, but your classical training shows through in three areas: (1) too much detache in the non-shuffle part of the tune, (2) too much vibrato, and (3) unnecessary rubato (speeding and slowing the tempo for effect).

    (1) I'd suggest you bow RD with a smooth, legato feeling.

    (2) Lose most of the vibrato. Maybe use a bit at the very end of long notes.

    (3) Keep a steady, foot-tapping tempo.

  • Hi 6fiddler,

Excellent deconstruciton of his technique. Could you post a video response of a cleaned up bluegrass verison of this tune? It would be cool to compare the differences side by side.

    Thanks!

  • Wish I had time... Too busy getting ready to run Fiddle Hell in Massachusetts in a week and a half. But some of my recordings are posted on Fiddle Hangout (see link at the same site as Fiddle Hell MA).

  • Great job! It appears you're having fun too! Love it!

  • nice entrance!

  • sweet playing mate. and I like your attitude. I will definately give it a shot myself with this "rubber dolly" piece.. never heard of it before.

    regards

  • why did you put a sordino?

  • Awesome dude! I find it hard to believe some people's negativism. Wow!! Personal problems ABOUND. I play with a fiddler and would love to play with you too.

  • dude. Teach Me, I'll pay you!

  • fantastic ,, nice sound of your fiddle.

  • Nice sounding fiddle! Great version of Back Up and Push!

  • I love the way you start that off! That's awesome. Oh, and great playing too.

  • Nothing has ever prompted me to post a comment on You Tube until I heard you...I keep hitting REPLAY! From Owensboro, KY, near the birthplace of Bill Monroe(and friends with some of his relatives)...you do him proud!

  • You Are AMAZING!

  • Screw the book, just play

  • Ha nice sounds.

     Joe in Florida

  • WOOO!! Great stuff!

  • This is also called Back up and Push. : ) Liked the variations you put on it! Great tone!

  • beautiful stuff! don't let all those idiots with a bow up their ass affect you, keep fiddlin', they're just jealous! (and well, that bow in their ass is really getting uncomfortable)

  • Hey, great fiddlin' keep it up.

  • Do you have any good advice for a classical violin student of 7 yrs for how to learn this stuff?

  • just practice, and stick with classical for now. trust me, i play too. just play classical and get good at it, really learn it. then, just make the transition to bluegrass...

  • ha ha ha love how you just swipe the book off the stand. love the music

  • Hey Brock Really good fiddln, Do you play with a band?Where u located? Got a hell of a bluegrass band but we could sure use a good fiddle like yourself!

  • Thanks for your comment -- I'm in Columbus, IN Yeeehaw!

  • I live two counties away from you (monroe)! I love bluegrass and Southern Indiana. We had a great old country band this year for the Lotus festival, but it's good to know we have our own good bluegrass musicians here, too.

  • really nice playing--the choreography at the beginning isn't bad either :D

  • outstanding...how long have you been playing?

  • outstanding

  • Grats, that staggered bowing is not easy, but you make it look that way :-)

  • Hey

that was great. Thanks again U reviel me some things about how i should be done that i never knew before

  • Came across this video.... that was great! Loved it! thanks for posting it!

  • loved it!

  • Thanks a bunchity-bunch!

  • cool beans...

  • Hot beans with bacon is yummy.

  • Wonderful!! My goal is to play half that good!

  • Thanks, I appreciate it-- practice always makes perfect. Sometimes it's hard not to throw the fiddle against the wall, but eventually things will start to click if you pick it up every day for 30min!

  • Hey, great job!

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • fair job, though, unfortunately, I detected a slight mistake in your bowing work. You would have failed my last competition.

  • You have failed me for the last time.

  • awesome!

  • tanks!

  • wow your sound is so nice

    great playing!

  • gay

  • kewl.

  • Wow! Amazing Job!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much :)

  • I don't wanna play the whole song in 4th that would suck for me. But I'm thinking about playing the violin too, it would be nice. Restringing mine is no though lol. It's a German 7000$ viola that's 70yr. old..it's pretty good.

  • Good job, I wish I could play something like this on the Viola, but there are no really good pieces like this lol.

  • Transpose! Or restring your Viola ;)

  • hot fiddling !!!

  • Great stuff!

    Aloha, Stan from Hawaii

  • nice bluegrass

  • Brocktoon: That's nice playing for a classical player playing Rubber Dolly. Ever hear Rayna Gellert. Plays the same way. You can hear the training. Forget the negative assholes, it's good stuff. One can tell yer jist a jerkin aroun. har har har. All the best.

  • I really liked what you played ;Sounds like xms32 is a pussy-ass jealous M.F.that wants to be your dad!

  • Thanks you're too kind. I will put up more bluegrass soon because of your comment.

  • nice playing ,, I like the drama of clearing the music stand ... the mute smart idea the fiddle esp. on the double stops can scream something . I use ear plugs . maybe watch your posture i don't know you seem awful comfortable playing like that ...

  • Only had the mute one because it was 3am and didn't want to wake the neighbors! The posture was more for show... just having fun with fiddlin after a long Bach session. Thanks! Check out my new theme if you get the change (Kate's theme) and let me know what you think!

  • Huh. You seem to be moving your bow alot. Why the mute too? that seems strange since you got such a good sound out of it.

  • I had the mute on cause it was like 3am and didn't want to wake the neighbors!

  • don't quit your day job

  • don't quit your cliche sarcasm!

  • I'm not being sarcastic. If you can't take criticism, don't put your video's up. I'm completely serious. Don't quit your day job. Giving you solid advice. I'm not saying quit playing or practicing because you're obviously having fun with it and that's good.

  • Gee thanks! I almost quit my job until I read your post! Have you ever thought about a career in useless advice?

  • I've thought about it as often as you've thought about actually playing that thing instead of just making noise with it. Not very often.

  • Was that a single thought?

  • Your Awesome!!! Play that bluegrass!!

  • Yeeeaaaa!

  • That was so cool! I've been toying with the idea of learning how to fiddle. Was it hard to learn?

  • I love this kind of thing. I hope you continue to practice and post more playing...you obviously enjoy it and it was fun to watch you jame. As for Hideo14, he should shove his Stradavarius up his snooty arse. :)

  • You're my new best friend.

  • No you shouldn't "deleat" it. It is awsome. Great job!

  • Thanks, you're too kind. Drink Ovaltine.
