Google is credit to Internet! Loving the HTML5 beta now that we Opera users can get in it as well. Frame rate is beautiful, audio is wonderful, and we don't have to deal with the bloat or security holes in Flash.
H264 is not free for companies and H264 will stay for sure for a long long time. Still there is no match to him in quality comparison. Maybe something is better that we don`t know that exist in public.
i dont think H.264 go away that fast, why? H.264 is the default Blu-ray video codec
but WebM will realy make video on the web painless, for everyone, there is all ready support for matroska container in hardware blu-ray players, HDTVs, and you also got Vorbis support in many hardware devices like all Android Phones has support for it, many MP3 players also support Vorbis, so no need to /transcode, just remux the audio :D
"We've seen what happens and how much distribution it can cause, when the terms of a platform change at the whim of one organization, and the web needs to be above that."
@kidcodea Whaaaaaaaaat? Have you been believing the pics on On2's website? They are cherry picked shots, and do not give you any idea of VP8's true quality.
VP8 is nowhere near H.264. It's better than Theora or VC-1(WMV), but it's wurse than H.264 by a large margin.
Google product is valuable. I like Google.

I know what he's getting at with the whole "whim of one organisation" thing, but it's not a comparison. THE APP STORE IS NOT THE WEB.

Firefox is a bit slow. Mozilla needs to beef up the speed a bit.

Will 720P WebM work on Android phones? That'd be a huge milestone.

@UntrustedSource If your android phone can run the browser I don't see why not.

MrDanielHen 1 year ago
@MrDanielHen No. It won't. H.264 is better quality. But on the web? Yes it will kill it for video streaming.
AndrewFaulds 1 year ago
@AndrewFaulds better quality? dude, no one is even arguing. VP8 kills h264. its much better , even a blind man can see it
