Might I also add that we don't chant to "bless our god" like has been mentioned in this video's description. To us, doing things like blessing gods is much too passive, and we don't find petitioning gods of any kind to be effective. What we do is more interactive - we chant to bring forth our Buddha nature, which we believe is inherent in all living beings.

Yes, it was Ms. Radner! I made sure to look closely! This movie came out in '73 (looked it up on Wikipedia) so I'd think this was pre-SNL for her.

The NSA is now called SGI-USA. The SGI has now spread to 192 countries and still growing. =) We're doing great! And hoping you'll return someday.

i joined in 86 and we were NSA, then we changed to Soka Gakkai, not too much difference, just without the priesthood.....and its much easier to practice....and more fun....

George Williams stepped down from the General Directorship in 1991. Fred Zaitsu was General Director from 1991 to 1999. Danny Nagashima is the current General Director. He used the be the Youth Division leader in the early 1990's.

Most of Mr. Williams generation have retired or passed on.

NSA is now known as SGI-USA after Nichiren Shoshu excommunicated the SGI. For this and other reasons the tendency towards conformism and authoritarianism that was the negative side of the old NSA has largely been banished. SGI-USA is putting great effort into ensuring that not even one member in the organisation is ever neglected or abandoned, just as Nichiren would have done.

You are right. While I mentioned that NSA had its problems, it was still full of amazing and sincere people doing their best for others. Without their efforts, SGI-USA would not be what it is today.
