I agree totally with Bernadette. I don't think I could ever have explained it so well. What do we do, how do we change this? I really don't know where to begin. I have children in the Dekalb County School system as well and I too want all the children in Dekalb County to have the level playing field she mentions, it just isn't right any other way. Still I just have no clue how to go about being a part of that change. Any ideas??
Bernadette is a great spokesperson, someone that I would want on my side. But I disagree on one of her points. It is a racial issue, on both sides. I go to parent meetings at a DKSS school in Decatur. All the attendees are White. If I suggest that the group needs to publicize its times and locations better, this suggestion is met with silence. So if your valid excuse is that you don't know a venue, then just ask the Principal. You can bet that the Principal has been invited!
You go, girl. It is about time somebody spoke up with the truth instead of excuses. "You get two things in life, reasons or results. Reasons don't count."
More parents need to fight to their kid's Right to Succeed! Go Bernadette! We should not accept the excuses given by failing schools and failing school systems.

Yeah..Yeah. More of the same. Run to where you're not wanted..You go there... they leave better yet they don't even let you on thier campus, they send you to a annex but they still take your high test scores and count them as thier own. What a shame. Sorry, Mother you are part of the problem.
That looks like Woodridge Elementary, where I graduated in 1976. I am now a tenured university professor. Get it together Dekalb!. Invest in the future.
