I spent 5 plus years in Iraq with about 9 months as a trucker there. I saw similar stuff too often but the procedures were more detailed than simply leaving the kill zone. The KBR convoys had a tractor without any trailer (bobtail) that should have swooped in to pick up any stranded driver. The problem was that there was barely any training and hardly any comms. Most drivers would purchase their own 2-way radios from the US but all could not share the same frequency. Happy to be alive?: Check.

The SOP is to push through the ambush and regroup, set up defenses, then go back for anyone who is trapped. That's what they did. If they went back under fire, a lot more people would have died. These contractors are taking the same risks as the military when they are there. This means they don't get special treatment during SOPs. The soldiers were following their training. Listen to the radio transmissions.

It,s my experience that KBR has no coms with the escorts or vice versa.The radio traffic you hear is KBR only. You see no gun trucks pass trk 5 so he was never left behind as he would not be the last trk in the convoy.
KBR drivers have it tough. No perosnal firearm, small number of guntrucks for security, tractors retrofitted with armor kits inidiquate to the task of stopping an IED. I guess thats why they get paid the big bucks but they really should have either an armed guard riding along or a personal firearm.
The driver of truck 5 didn't die. The military re-entered the area about 45 min later and found him shot, but alive. Truck 3, the overturned one in front of truck 5 wasn't so lucky. I remember the huge investigation that went on after this vid went public. Its a damn shame that none of these drivers have no defensive weaponry whatsoever.

I was in Baghdad as a KBR worker 6 mos after the war started - 2 months after getting out of the army. If you feel they are providing crap for food - complain to someone higher up - it is not the individual KBR workers fault. They are serving the country just as the soldiers are. I was there & food was fine & so was everything else.

This is some funny shit; Message to KBR drivers don't be assholes so that soldiers decide if they want to risk their life for you. Think about it this way. What is his payload. Is it just a bunch of nonsense. I would not do that job without a gun. So if you have not gun = you are stupid truck driver. You should have a rifle and/or at least a pistol. I spent 5 plus years in Iraq with about 9 months as a trucker there. I saw similar stuff too often but the procedures were more detailed than simply leaving the kill zone. The KBR convoys had a tractor without any trailer (bobtail) that should have swooped in to pick up any stranded driver. The problem was that there was barely any training and hardly any comms. Most drivers would purchase their own 2-way radios from the US but all could not share the same frequency. Happy to be alive?: Check.

Even though these civilians are working for the military, they are trying to help us out by giving us supplies. We are supposed to protect these civilians. The trucks should have said fuck it, pull up next to him, and let them jump in the humvees. I know the situation was hectic, and when this happens, people need to make quick decisions, and it may not be the best decision. But these men should not have been left.

I was an outside driver in Iraq and you can not mix this two things together... his mistake also... he did not follow the proper way of shutting down an stalled mercedez truck... the only thing he needs to do is switch the key all the way to the left, wait 10 seconds and turn the engine the normal way... he is lucky to be alive..

The SOP is to push through the ambush and regroup, set up defenses, then go back for anyone who is trapped. That's what they did. If they went back under fire, a lot more people would have died. These contractors are taking the same risks as the military when they are there. This means they don't get special treatment during SOPs. The soldiers were following their training. Listen to the radio transmissions.

The driver of truck 5 didn't die. The military re-entered the area about 45 min later and found him shot, but alive. Truck 3, the overturned one in front of truck 5 wasn't so lucky. I remember the huge investigation that went on after this vid went public. Its a damn shame that none of these drivers have no defensive weaponry whatsoever.

The food sucked, water was almost undrinkable and every other service they provided was either late or not there. We need to get back to the military handling its own logistics and fuck the for profit groups.

I was in Baghdad as a KBR worker 6 mos after the war started - 2 months after getting out of the army. If you feel they are providing crap for food - complain to someone higher up - it is not the individual KBR workers fault. They are serving the country just as the soldiers are. I was there & food was fine & so was everything else.

I worked in Iraq as a convoy commander for my company..... these US military escorts are like these..not every one.....I know the bloody guys they run away and left our convoy many times, may be they are having their own reasons but Iam sure there is no justification for that, they have to protect the convoy. once my convoy attcked seriousely wounded two of my drivers are fell down on the road and catched one on the escort jeep they kicked out them, I driven with out escort and saved them in EMT

@magicstorm1 No shit, I was there for 3 years and that happened a lot, the problem was that they would take inexperienced green National Guard units that rode in their Hummers without daring to stand up on the .50 cal. They fuckin choked and left them, but they will remember the day they ran off and failed at the job they were givin. KBR? They don't give no more a fuck about their employees as long as they are on the job they make money, They fired that dude that got shot in the convoy! POS!

The training is harder, we go in first, we take the first bullets, we go to the worst combat zones, and we have earned nick names such as DEVIL DOGS, and the MARINE RAIDERS!! That tops the other branches, im not saying they don't do their jobs, and don't do good, just saying Marines have proven themselves to be the best, mentally wise too. SIR!

I dont know what bloody nicknames the army navy or airforce earned, and i dont care! Just because your better that some national guard unit or the local pizza faces doesnt say alot does it. I'm fitter that a fat guy in the street i'm sure - doesnt mean i'm fit though! I mean its pretty sad when the government has to bribe people to join the army with free medical care or help with college.....

you couldn't compare these two wars, that's exactly right. what the nazis had done during ww2 and (what we've forgot) what stalin had done was the most horrific time in the last century. but i think, the us military was nearly as gruesome during vietnam. agent orange and napalm bombs are horrific too. i'm sorry, that it looks like, that i've compared it. that was the last thing i want.
so, let's hope, that such damn wars will never happen again. the hope dies last, as we say in germany.

Truck 4 should have pushed #5. Even better is if the escort would have chained up to #5 and towed him. Once #5 went down everyone behind him stopped which set them up like ducks on a pond.
