Morgan City is my hometown & I live only 30 miles from it now. My friends & family agree that opening the spillway is the right thing to do. Not everyone from these areas are whining about the injustice of the opening of the Morganza to "save the rich", only a few are. Yeah it sucks for us. People down here are realistic and smart enough to understand what's happening, and what WILL happen if it isn't opened. It's not a political, international or military conspiracy. It's just Mother Nature.

Get a grip and be real: the river has two mouths, one in Boothville and the other is the Atchafalaya. The Old River floodgates prevent the natural course for the river to use both outlets. They don't want the Mississippi to jump channels. Opening the Morganza is closer to the natural outcome than keeping it closed. The folks under threat in Cajun country know well what I am talking about. They know the Morganza gets opened at record floods, so quit blaming NOLA and the "saving the rich" BS
